Title: Pile, a new GSN show. Really.

Marc Horowitz is the "guinea pig" on the recent G4 show It's Effin' Science.

This gets the green light while Late Night Liars gets 8 episodes.  Wow.

I'll wait to see it to make judgment, but the host's assessment of the show is probably correct.

When watching "Double Dare," I would get bored if the contestant spent more than 15 seconds on this obstacle.

I think we're ALL gonna need Preparation H once this sh*t hits the fan.

Quote from: Marc Horowitz
I'm one of two hosts on the show [...] but seriously, how ridiculous is this show? I mean how low can you go? [...] Pile is set to debut in November 2010 on The Game Show Network (GSN). Gee can't wait.
Then why the hell are you hosting this?! I'll give you consolation points for referring to GSN as Game Show Network, though.

Quote from: Marc Horowitz
"Inspired by 'Hands on a Hard Body,' 'Pile' is an extreme race to the finish!
"Extreme" isn't the word I'd use to describe it. "Extremely-lame s***", yes.

Quote from: Marc Horowitz
Each week, Pile will present its contestants with a brand new heaping pile of rock, coal, bricks, wood, etc... The objective is to get to the center to uncover the prize. The first contestant to dig the prize out WINS!
Wait, wait, wait...if you're burying a prize underneath 300 tons of something, won't that something weigh down on the prize and maybe, oh I don't know...break it? Unless you're planning to use some "stand-in" like Downfall.

That summary leaves me with questions -- how many contestants are playing? Is it one pile for each contestant, or "one pile, first to the center wins"? How will the players remove the obstacles? Who's the other host? Will they be covering the prizes in something unorthodox (hay, ice, marshmallows, manure) at some point?

...And why should any of us give one frickin' iota of care?

/TV Game Show Vault + YouTube = proper Game Show Network.

(EDIT 11/11/14: Fixed broken quote boxes.)

I think you've probably pretty much summed up the show right there.

UGH!  How much lower can GSN go with this?  Why, even lower than Think Like a Cat as far as I'm concerned.  Really, a 300-ton pile of rocks just to dig out a TV?  No thanks.  I'll just leave it there.

GSN does realize there's 5 1/2 months until April Fools (I'm assuming)?

The Pile is shaped much like a pyramid.  I wonder if it will contain six subjects and a large dollar amount at the top.  Then they'd have something.

I don't like the title.  I prefer "Excavation."

That would have been its sixties title, when it was hosted by Lloyd Thaxton.  Then, the new GSN remake could have been called Pile: The All-New Excavation!

I thought this would make a good topic for a show segment today (if it was true), so I called the GSN PR department and asked them directly since there had been no press release on it.

The PR contact said that GSN had no comment on this and that they were trying to verify the information themselves.

Let us not rule out the possibility that this is just a big joke and no such show exists.  Clearly it's not going to premiere in November, plus the picture sure doesn't indicate any sort of TV presence.  It's just a pile.  Guy just might be attempting humor.

as I said a couple hours ago.

C'mon, a blog post from well over a month ago, from a guy with no game show experience, with no mention from ANYONE in the legit game show world elsewhere.  How gullible is everyone?

Six months ago, if a pro wrestler wrote on his blog that he was hosting a game show where people's prized possesions were going to be tossed off a skyscraper, I wouldn't have believed it.  But it happened.

Confirmed from GSN's PR Department:

This is crap. No such show is under development.

/More on today's "Buzz" show at 3:30 EDT!
//Not really. There's nothing more on this topic to talk about.

Isn't that what you do anyway once you throw said TV out the window?

/And Benfield's epic outrage over this is worth the price of this prank.

I'm late to the punch here, but if I had read that last night, there's a chance I might've fallen for it, but it had all the makings of a nice little tongue-in-cheek joke. I can see how it fooled a few.

That being said, some of you really need to take a step back from the ledge and stop taking all things game shows so seriously. Can we say "overreacting"?

But-but-but RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION WHAAAARGARBL!!!!!!

Seriously, the first clue for y'all should have been:

and there are supposed to be no photographs on set, but seriously, how ridiculous is this show? I mean how low can you go?
PROTIP: Hosts (hell, any on-air talent) do not badmouth their shows before they even air (never mind admitting to violating on-"set" rules) in public forums if they ever want to work again.

/I see by the trackback that it caught Buzzerblog hook, line, and sinker, though

I was just taken aback that GSN might be interested in doing original game shows again.   I knew it would be a hoax.

I'll admit that I fell for this the other day myself.  But now that I think of it, this is something even the notorious Michael Fleming and Jake Tauber wouldn't have given the green light to.

IMO, just the fact that we so readily bought into this story tells a lot about the current game show landscape and our confidence in it.
