This is a rumor, and not yet confirmed, but according to Nellie Andreeva at Deadline Hollywood (http://\"http://www.deadline.com/2010/07/daily-talk-show-to-replace-as-the-world-turns-on-cbs-this-fall/\"), CBS has apparently chosen its replacement for As The World Turns:
I hear CBS has picked the replacement for departing daytime soap As the World Turns: a daily panel talk show hosted by Sara Gilbert, on whose idea the show is based, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Leah Remini that focuses on topical events through the eyes of moms. The pilot, executive produced by Tom Forman (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition), John Redmann (The Tyra Banks Show) and Gilbert, was one of several CBS ordered for the ATWT timeslot, along with a Pyramid reboot hosted by Andy Richter and a cooking game show starring Emeril Lagasse. But I hear the View-type female-oriented talk show screened very well at the network and had been the clear frontrunner. I hear eyes a tentative October launch, a pretty ambitious plan for mounting a new daily show with only 8 weeks of prep time. ATWT is slated to bow out in September after a 54-year run. The talk show will be filmed in Los Angeles where Chen also co-hosts CBS’ Early Show year-round as well as the network’s reality series Big Brother in the summer.

So "x-type" must be trade jargon for "x-ripoff"? At least The Doctors tries to differentiate itself, if only by a little.
If this is true, color me disappointed, but not necessarily surprised.
-
I just can't see the logic of another version of The View. Then again, I can't see the logic behind all the court shows on TV either...well, other than being cheap to produce. A bit disappointing, but c'est la vie...in the meantime, I'm thinking Michael Davies should consider Pyramid for syndication.
Oh, and if it's true, can people please not chime in about how the show didn't sell because it was too radical from the original or didn't have a 20-foot-tall pyramid at center stage?
-
Not shocked actually- daytime is a female audience, and they think this can be a View-killer (though the timeslots won't match of course)...
-
Its true. Variety just reported it also. While I am very disappointed, Im not the least bit surprised.

It didn't sell, because the contestants were standing instead of sitting!! :-)

I don’t blame CBS for the decision it made. With “Oprah” leaving the marketplace, you have to strike while the iron is hot, and other networks/syndicators are going to be doing the same over the next 12-15 months. Pyramid, while a great format, won’t grab the Oprah audience. Neither will that hybrid game/talk/food show with Emeril that was also considered.

Also disappointed, and I was not surprised of this news too. I even read last week in both the New York tabloid papers, The News and The Post, that even the proposed talk show co-hosted by Valerie Bertinelli was rejected as well.
-
CBS was just far too worried about the contestants dropping trou for this to ever work out.

Here's a novel idea: if you're going to say "It's also confirmed here," at least make a cursory effort to see if that source isn't just citing one of the ones already mentioned? 'Cuz that's not a report of news, that's a report of a report of news.

Oh well, truthfully I was not too crazy about this version of Pyramid (yeah, yeah, I'm complaining it's been RUINED FOREVER cause there's no Big Pyramid on the set...well if there isn't, what would we call it? Million Dollar Passw...oh wait...)
Between this and Donnymid and all, maybe it should join MG on the "LEAVE [X] ALONE!" list of shows that somehow would never quite produce a faithful 2000s (2010s now...) version.
-
I figured that this would happen. I heard that CBS is making the hour mandatory, so everyone has to air it. At leasr one CBS affiliate was going to replace the hour with syndicated fare if it was going to be Pyramid. I don't see this taking off at all. It's just another hour of CBS I will continue not to watch.
-
It's now official. (http://\"http://www.cbspressexpress.com/div.php/cbs_entertainment/release?id=25604\") (CBS press release)

Millions of elementary school teachers across the country will now have nothing to watch while the kids are at recess.
How about if they call it "The View Through the CBS Eye". Catchy, huh?
Informal poll: Would you rather have a version of Pyramid which is not up to the standards of the Bob Stewart version, or no Pyramid at all?

Well, at least Chen-Bot is not the ONLY host of the show. Maybe she'll just stop in every so often ala Baba Wawa on ABC.
This might open up the opportunity for Andy Richter to audition for TPIR as was suggested elsewhere in the forum.
I know its a long shot, but with all of these 60 minute court shows and midday chatfests all over the local channels, could a 60-minute version of Pyramid work in the syndicated market? Perhaps to premiere in January or mid-season, after some of the new fall series start dying in the ratings. If it tested pretty decent, but not as well as the ATWT replacement with or without the M/M Moonves factor, would Davies put it out there?
-
All the Julie Chen bashing and Pyramid lamenting is getting in the way of the real A story: Sharon Osbourne is considered an expert on motherhood!

As much as it pains me to say this, "The View" could use a challenger. Between that, Oprah's departure and the obvious nepotism, the chances of CBS giving the green light to "Pyramid" were about as good as Ecuador hosting a future Winter Olympiad.
-
30 minutes of Pyramid and 30 minutes of LMAD on CBS would work. A common complaint about LMAD is that it doesn't hold up in a 60-minute format.
What's your choice?
I would rather there be no Pyramid at all than a poorly-done one (c.f. MG '98 and CS 2001).
-
I completely understand CBS's decision given the current landscape. And second the other Chris' opinion ^^^

Well someone has to represent the mothers of children who dress in goth, have piercings & tattoos up the wazoo, do drugs, and curse & swear like a sailor.

Something about this show doesn't seem right- and it's not because it's not Pyramid. Maybe it's the nepotism, maybe it's that it's another View, or maybe it's the fact that the selling point is basically that you have 5 Kathie Lee Giffords (Regis' KLG, not Hoda's borderline entertaining KLG) talking for an hour.
Either way, point taken- It's become more clear that the "Oprah Audience Jackpot" is the main focus right now for producers. With Tyra doing more serious material in her last couple of seasons (and winning a few awards and Emmys, at that), I would have thought that she'd be a major player. But since she has ended her show, there's no clear frontrunner (maybe Ellen?) for the throne. Either way, everybody's trying to get their cut of the Oprah crowd, and I guess it wasn't as apparent to me because she made her announcement months ago, and it's kinda slipped to the back of my mind until now.

I'm not sure if the 30-minute format makes it stable, though, especially for some of the longer skits they do.
I'd rather have Donnymid than no 'mid, personally. The 6-in-20 didn't bother me that much, but then again, I find 100k front-games to be kind of dull.
Also, despite it being Julie Chen's talk show, I don't think Julie Chen made it win. The women-talking-about-stuff format has been proven successful in daytime, while Emeril's show and Andymid are relative unknowns. It's "safe," and doesn't immediately alienate ATWT's demographic.

I agree with you to a point, considering it felt like every game ended in a 21-20 or 20-19 decision.
But, it moves at a very quick pace and has some compelling factors (7-11, Mystery 7, $5000 tiebreaker), so it isn't THAT dull.

I'm dissapointed Pyramid got passed over for a 2nd year now. But I'm not surprised either given the current situation right now along with Oprah leaving next season, somebody had to take ATWT's place. The only thing left for me now is old Pyramid episodes either on GSN(if they still show them) or YouTube

This, but with the amount of commercials needed, I don't think Pyramid would work 30 minutes anymore. Unless the bonus cards were sponsored by Wilford Brimley and it was the "Winners Circle Sponsored By The Zero-Turning Radius Hoverround".
I stopped watching Deal with any regularity after about a week because it was crawling along. Didn't help the variety in the games was lacking.

I prefer the '80s versions of 25K for this reason. All of the bells and whistles, nearly the same level of game play, but less pressure to do well in the WC. Plus, hearing the time to beat for the tournament repeated umpteen times a show got old fast.
And on ChrisC's question: I think it depends on where you set the bar. Better than Donnymid but not up to Stewart's level? Fine. Donnymid as actually executed? Not fine.

I agree. I don't think anybody loafs during the Winners' Circle anyway, so I'd have preferred it if Dick rarely mentioned it, maybe after the commercial after a particularly fast round.
I've never really liked the front game anyway, so I think they could de-emphasize it to the point of a fastest-finger question. Maybe it's one round a piece, ten items, timed like the tie-breaker. Or one 60-second round, you get one pass, and there are, say, 15 items to describe. Then get to big pyramid.

If the Chenbot is as manipulative and devious as many seem to think, maybe one of these days we'll be treated to a recorded phone call where Les goes Mel Gibson on her........

That sums up what I enjoyed about the $25K version. They made a big deal about total winnings than they $100K.
