The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that ABC has green-lit a new trivia game from Fremantle called "Downfall," which will be set on a skyscraper. Contestants will see their winnings thrown off the skyscraper if they lose, in what sounds like a bizarre amalgam of "Russian Roulette" and Britain's "101 Ways to Leave a Game Show."...

"Oh, I'm sorry, we were looking for "Latvia." "Latvia." And now we have to say bye-bye to your new dining room set...gentlemen, load 'em up!"
/actually I'd watch that

NOW I've seen everything! :-)

Sounds like a rip-off (or is it a format sale...?) of this idea:

Were he alive, the venerable Mr. Goodson would be kicking himself hard for never having come up with this idea.
It makes the show with dancing girls unfurling scrolls containing money amounts look brilliant.
-
So the Fox ripoff of this show would be this then? (http://\"http://www.themadmusicarchive.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=2459\")

Seriously? This was already done as Distraction's bonus round. The game had better be really badass to make up for the gimmick.

Will there be an audience? Will they be at the bottom of the building?
I'd like to thank The Hollywood Reporter for giving The Game Show Forum the following setup:

So they finally lured Letterman away from CBS, huh?

Suddenly that far-fetched game show spoof National Lampoon created on their Radio Dinner album nearly 40 years ago, "Catch It And You Keep It", doesn't seem so far-fetched.
For those not familiar with this, the object of the game was to catch prizes as they were thrown off the top of a skyscraper. Catch it, it's yours -- drop it, you lose.

I think this was also a Mole challenge. 20k if you won, and if you didn't, your stuff got tossed out the plane.

/until it was revealed that those were dummy bags and the real luggage was returned unharmed after a few days.

Should we start a pool on the finish date? Like maybe June 30?
/Maybe You're In the Picture wasn't so bad after all.

I'm thinking that YouTube videos about Downfall using that scene from Downfall will crop up before Downfall is canceled.
Though, in the case that you are right and this game show really is the Antichrist, I purchased a bottle of Gee, This Crow Tastes Terrific from my local grocer.
/It's just a game show. I really should relax.

Here's the game explanation... (http://\"http://thefutoncritic.com/news/2010/05/27/high-stakes-and-high-drama-on-the-highest-game-show-in-the-world-when-downfall-premieres-tuesday-june-22-on-abc/20100527abc05/\")it seems to be a standard Q&A game- the skyscraper is just "the hook" to try and get viewers.. (though I think this is the first show since MTV's Trashed that had people put personal possessions on the line). Now we have to see who the host is going to be...

Great minds think alike. ;)

Well- I'm guessing this might be part of the reason Pat Sajak is doing WWE Raw...Buzzerblog is reporting WWE wrestler Chris Jericho is going to be the host.
-
"Surrender a Personal Possession"??
I'm off to a flea market to buy a $20 "antique".
-
the player offers a personal material possession for the conveyor belt and risks its being dropped over the edge and destroyed
I question whether this is legal, as there is an FCC rule against broadcast lotteries.
the "Friend on the Belt" option (where players' own friends or family members, such as their grandmother, can be placed on the belt to help them find the answers). If they don't beat the clock, this person risks going over the side of the building just like the previous prizes -- but in this case wearing a decelerator harness to soften the fall.
Um, yeah, right. If the decelerator fails and grandma plummets head first into the sidewalk, and the family can prove any kind of negligence, grandma's survivors will have just become very wealthy.
The start date is just weeks away. Has anyone in L.A. or anywhere heard about streets being shut down in the vicinity of a 10-story high-rise building while they drop grand pianos off the roof?
It makes Show Me the Money look like Shakespeare, doesn't it?

Flea market? $20? How about a Jesus candle from the 99 Cent store?
(No offense to the faithful intended.)

I can prejudge this one. It's crap.

Chris Jericho is an out-of-left field choice to host a game show, but I think he can pull it off. He has the enthusiasm and personality to command attention on screen, and he's known as one of the best "promo" guys in wrestling (and one of the few who can ad-lib and get off the script without struggling).
Jericho has wanted to become a mainstream Hollywood type for some time -- even taking a two-year sabbatical from wrestling a few years ago to focus on his acting and music careers -- so he's definitely going to give it his all here. I'll be curious to see if ABC wants to him to present his wrestling persona on-screen, or create a "hybrid" of his wrestling and non-wrestling personalities (i.e. - playing it straight while asking questions, while insulting contestants when they lose).
As for taping, given that only six episodes have been green-lit, I wouldn't be surprised if they tape everything in one or two days. Unless Jericho gets clearance by the WWE to miss RAW (won't happen), a PPV (won't happen) or weekend house shows (more likely), I would expect the show to tape on a Wednesday or Thursday.

Pick a network and report there for work Monday morning. You have just earned a position as Vice President of Reality Programming at whichever network you choose.
