Title: Merv's new game show import
Post by: tvrandywest on December 10, 2009, 02:27:14 AM
We used to trade wheat with the Russians, now their biggest game show hit comes to the US via Merv's company.

Da story be here (http://\"http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i71b756a8035722a206d21f22282c301a\")

Darn, I was hoping it would be "Uposcrabblenyk" ;-). Seriously, that sounds like an interesting format.

Yes, but it would have been too easy to figure out that the Ж was a stopper every time it comes up.

They should have imported Pole Chudes instead, it looks like a rather interesting hybrid of Hangman, and that wheel adds some nice touches to the gameplay. That could work well for U.S. audiences with some ... oh wait that's the other way around.

Still, lets hope this gets out of the pilot stage.

Unrealtor, as one who likes to use foreign words and spell them exactly right, let me just say that I appreciate the effort you had to put into finding that character.

From what I can gather, the format looks like Mindtrap: America Plays. And I'm not sure that watching a bunch of people puzzle out puzzles will be all that interesting. Not interesting enough for me to watch, anyway.

Well, you'd have to admit that reductio ad absurdum can make any show's premise sound silly if you boil it down enough:

"...I'm not sure that watching three people answering a bunch of questions will be all that interesting."

"...I'm not sure that watching a bunch of people writing down the same punchline will be all that interesting."

"...I'm not sure that watching a bunch of people guess how much stuff costs will be all that interesting."

Four or five? I don't think it will be all that exciting to watch people playing twenty questions to come up with "Oh, it's John Elway's Nose!" If I'm wrong, that's fine.
