Since my attention was brought to Hollywood Junket (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=18727\"), I scrolled down and found an article from USA Today (http://\"http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2009-08-16-game-show-economy_N.htm\"). It's an okay read, but here was the key quote.
Catch 21 players can win a maximum of $50,000 — apparently enough of a draw these days to lure auditioners atypical of the "average Joes" who usually want on. Casting for a third season run of about 200 shows, "it's absolutely clear we are seeing a lot of professionals who have lost their jobs or are looking for a way to supplement income," says producer Scott Sternberg.
Since would be rather uncharacteristic of GSN, I'd like to know if this is accurate and I've just been out of the loop.

Educated guess that this cycle will bring it to about 200 shows. How many did they do in the 1st season?

65 IIRC.

If they do 65 for the 3rd season, it would bring their total to 170. They did 40 episodes for the first season.

That's not how I parsed it (hence the question). I figured it was just the writer making a generalization since there are quite a few shows that tape around 200 eps a year.

I wonder if they meant about 200 contestants (200 contestants would be enough people with alternates for 65 episodes)

I wouldn't rule out the 200 shows entirely, it would seem out of character for GSN. Then again, it's bringing them great ratings. Maybe it's worth their time?
