Title: Game Show Fine Art
Post by: bwood on September 09, 2009, 11:45:21 PM
I was just browsing the internet tonight and came across these pieces of what I will call "Game Show Fine Art" (http://\"http://lownoon.com/Telles_98.html\"). Some of them are different to say the least, but they are pretty good and I must say a pretty original idea. They are by John Miller and from 1998. There are also "Price" inspired pieces here (http://\"http://lownoon.com/Babs_99.html\").

Monty Hall looks like he's holding a giant match.

/And the way his face has melted, it's a lit match.

This is some very good stuff. Never thought I'd see fine art inspired by Peer Pressure.

Last picture in this one probably NSFW.  Doesn't matter anyway, box game cover art looks better than this stuff.

Are you talking about "Zionist Occupation Government", or the sex wax? ;)

I've seen these before and I have to say Miller's work is really good if not peculiar. So I just decided to pick up painting a couple months ago and did a few on game shows. I've been meaning to post the paintings, but completely forgot This thread reminded me so here they are. Each are done in watercolor on paper, except for the Family Feud piece which was done with acrylic (not my strong suit as it turns out).

Plinko (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3907773093/\")
Showcase Showdown (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3907773265/\")
Big Winner (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3907773399/\")

These three pieces are part of a triptych (panels done separate; form larger painting when put together) called Come on Down! (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3907774253/\").

The Feud (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3908552528/\")
Not my best or good even (not a fan of acrylic), but it's a game show nonetheless.

No Whammies! (http://\"http://www.flickr.com/photos/53611855@N00/3907772679/\")

I'm thinking of doing another painting. Any ideas?

That word.  It almost means what you think it means.

Meanwhile, as long as we're admiring original works of art, I'm delighted that the website housing this piece (http://\"http://www.cropart.com/dalancar.dir/caxala02.htm\") is still around.

A diptych is two panels. A tryptych is three.

As pds319 was quick to realize (as I pretty much thought he would be), diptych means two panels.  Triptych means three.

This has been another obsessive-compulsive round of Words Have Meanings.
