JD

The official list is available at the Emmy website (http://\"http://www.emmyonline.org/mediacenter/daytime_36th_nominations.html\").

JEOPARDY!, SYNDICATED
WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE, SYNDICATED

Also of semi-related interest, Regis Phiblin is co-nominated with Kelly Ripa in the Outstanding Talk Show Host category and is part of the crew for the 2008 Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade on ABC, nominated for Outstanding Special Class Special. Live With Regis and Kelly is nominated for Outstanding Talk Show.
Meredith Vieira is part of The Today Show team which is nominated for Outstanding Morning Program.
Edit: As evidenced below, The Price is Right is up against Barney & Friends, Sesame Street, Ellen and Nickelodeon's acid trip/kids show Yo Gabba Gabba! for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling and against Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, Bonnie Hunt, Tyra and The View in Outstanding Achievement in Makeup.

Out of curiosity, is there a limit on how many entries can end up in these categories (ie. 3 plus ties?). It just seems a bit odd that stalwarts Feud and Wheel don't really tend to pop up.
Ryan.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Wheel airs almost exclusively in early prime time (7-8 PM), I believe it isn't eligible for a daytime Emmy. Jeopardy! can slide by because it airs in afternoons in some markets (it's been on at 3:30 PM here in Chicago forever).

ABC's Who Wants to Be a Millionaire won for 2000 and 2001 and that did air exclusively in primetime. (It was allowed to compete in that category since, well, there's no primetime game show category.)
-
No Price? Am I to guess that Barker was the main one pushing for that show to get Emmy noms?
BTW, I don't think I've ever seen the current Feud nominated.

It's possible that both Price and Feud were not even submitted for consideration. Didn't Drew Carey ask that he not be considered for a nomination last year?
AFAIK, the current revival of FF has never been nominated for Outstanding Game Show or Show Host. None of the Fremantle syndie shows since 1997 (MG, CS, TTTT, FF) have ever been nominated.
Wheel has been nominated before in both show and show host categories. Like the above examples, it's possible the show wasn't submitted for consideration.
WWTBAM did win in 2000 and 2001, but the Daytime Emmy folks changed the rules following the show's second win, making prime time network game shows ineligible for any Daytime Emmy Awards. IIRC, the daytime game show producers complained that the nighttime shows had an unfair advantage thanks to bigger budgets and better production values. Also, it closed a loophole in Daytime Emmy rules, as nighttime network soaps and talk shows were ineligible for Daytime Emmys, but nighttime game shows were not.
Not sure if there is a max limit on nominations (I've seen six for some acting soap categories in the past). Due to the lack of depth in the game show genre, the Daytime Emmys have only named three nominees for Outstanding Game Show the last couple of years. Should be noted that there are also only three nominees in other major categories as well, such as best soap and best talk show.

I am 99.9% sure Price was submitted, unless someone forgot to lick the stamp. As far as Drew, he did not wish to be nominated as the host in the past, but that did not stand true for the show's nominations.

TPIR got two nominations, for makeup and costumes. No technical nods either this year, which is strange.

It's something Monty Hall lobbied long and hard for with the Academy back in the late 60s early 70s timeframe.

The two Price nominations are in all-genre categories.
-
He's right. Price is up against Barney & Friends, Sesame Street, Ellen and Nickelodeon's acid trip/kids show Yo Gabba Gabba! for Outstanding Achievement in Costume Design/Styling and against Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, Bonnie Hunt, Tyra and The View in Outstanding Achievement in Makeup.

Bad breaks? Do explain.
And neither Anderson and Karn were nominated either (not that their hosting was worthy of such to begin with), but like someone else mentioned, outside of Barker and TPiR, Fremantle hasn't submitted ANY of their hosts or shows for nomination.

I'm honestly not too familiar with her except that she's on the Food Network, but damn do I want some Jack in the Box now. But from all the accounts I've read, I guess that's a good thing.

Enh. It's just okay. Certainly nothing I would go out of my way for, and no way no how on an echelon with White Castle. :) It's *not* destination fast-food in the same way In-N-Out or Chick-Fil-A might be. :)

Which of course can't hold a steamed onion to Krystal. But in Michigan I take what I can get. Just had ten White Castles for lunch yesterday.
The nearest Chick-Fil-A is about an hour or so away, in the student union building of a Detroit-area university. And yes, I've made the trip just to have lunch.

I'm happy Howie got nominated as a traditional game show host this time; he previously got nominated for the first-ever Reality TV Host Emmy, which was won by Jeff Probst. Maybe the syndicated "Deal or No Deal" will get nominated for Outstanding Game Show next year.

Under the Daytime and Primetime Emmy rules, "daytime" is defined as 2 AM to 6 PM, except for game shows, which must compete in the Daytime Emmys if they air between 2 AM and 8 PM. Game shows that air between 8 PM and 2 AM are only eligible to compete in the Primetime Emmys.
If a show is aired both in both the daytime and primetime segments in different parts of the country, it competes in the awards for the time period in which it airs to more than 50% of the households in the U.S.
And if a game show airs in more than 50% of the country, but not 50% in either daytime or primetime (say, 40% in daytime and 30% in primetime), it can enter either awards.

I was in Center City Philadelphia for a job fair not too long ago and was thrilled that the location was right across the street from Reading Terminal Market, thinking that I would probably grab lunch there. I went to Chick-Fil-A instead; I do not regret the decision.

What does a sack of ten White Castles go for, anyhow? Always been curious and I've never been remotely close to one. Sadly the entirety of my experience with them has been out of the freezer section of the grocery, which I'm sure is a pale comparison to the real deal.

I specifically stopped in Akron for an early lunch on a road trip last year, so that I could have White Castle... I have to be honest, didn't really enjoy the sliders. Is it an acquired taste?

They never had an effect on me, but when I was in college, all my New Yorker friends called them "murder burgers" for that reason. Never heard about fiber content.
And I tried In-N-Out on my L.A. excursion last year. Good stuff, but I'm still a Whataburger man. :-)

I recommend Five Guys. Pricey ($10 for a burger, fries, and drink), but good and there's a lot of it. Never done White Castle, In-N-Out, or Jack's. Namely because there are none even remotely close to me.

Why anybody would waste their time eating fries in a White Castle/Krystal situation is beyond me. Amazed they even offer the choice.
I mean a drink? Sure. But anything else takes too much away from the experience.

White Castle's fries are among my favorites, along with Wendy's and Chick-Fil-A. (Ooh, we're going even further off-topic!) White Castle is a once every 6 months thing for me, since the closest White Castle is about 20 miles from here. I have to savor the moment.

If we're going to talk pricey-but-good, we might as well bring up Culver's or - more localized to NW Indiana and parts of IL - Schoop's. Culver's/Schoop's > McDonald's/Burger King.

If you get a chance to go north of the border, try Harvey's or Licks. Licks is a personal fave as they will ask you for your name, then sing when you ask for your toppings.

Now I feel compelled to restrain myself from going far into the Chicago suburbs for either when I'm out there next weekend. Anyone know of a Culver's or a Shoop's relatively close to Chicago near Metra or the South Shore (since none seem to be anywhere near the L)?

Looks like your best bet is Franklin Park, where there appears to be a Culver's about half a mile south of the Franklin Park station on Metra's Milwaukee District-West line (the station is at 3148 Rose Street, Culver's is at 2751 Rose Street). I'm not familiar with the area, so I can't vouch for how doable the walk would be.
Is this the most off-topic thread in the history of the GSF yet?
