when the players looked into those little clue monitors in the front game, what eXactly did they see
i always thought they saw the same picture as the tv audience. but thatd be impossible

My guess is that it was a direct feed out of the character generator.

Using a picture from the $100,000 Pyramid in the "Come on Down" book as precedent, they probably saw just the chyron of the word by itself in the same font, size and position as we saw it at home.

While not the case, there is not one reason in the world why that would be impossible. It is in fact no less likely than the direct feed from the CG that they did see, it just would have involved routing a different source into those monitors.

For some reason, I thought, when this discussion came up years ago, someone mentioned that it basically was like Pyramid's setup, and was simply like a small portable TV.
Everytime I saw the device, I always envisioned a small LED display, similar to 1970s calculators.
