Title: Mark L. Walberg has a new gig...
Post by: weaklink75 on December 24, 2008, 06:49:01 PM
He's the host of the California Lottery's new show "Make Me a Millionaire":

(it's the first clip on the page, a behind the scenes peek- the show starts January 17th)

and here's an article- the new producers of the show? 3Ball Productions (JD Roth's company, so another GS connection)

Ah, the man who should be emcee of TPIR. I'm told he did quite well in the off-the-lot auditions, but CBS wouldn't pay for an on-camera audition.

I'm still in the Todd Newton camp myself.

/yes, I know half you guys think he's a tool, but I've seen him do TPIR-Live enough to know he'd rule.
/not to dis Mark L. of course.  I WAS on Russian Roulette after all.  :D

But not December 16... (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=17061\") :-P

/Would've liked Mark L.
//Or Marc Summers
///Both deserve a successful gig
////Same for Todd Newton

And Joe, I wouldn't consider Todd a tool...at all. I thought he was good on "Hollywood Showdown", but was over-the-top on "Whammy". I'm guessing Fremantle had a say in his personality on that show.

At least one of us has said that Todd would be a great TPiR host for over 8 years (http://\"http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.game-shows/msg/38b28b42c92954bb\").  What you saw of Todd on Whammy was not the Todd I saw in-person in 2000 or 2003.

(And as an aside, Merry Christmas.  If you don't celebrate Christmas, have a lovely Thursday. :-))

Can you get into specifics, Chris C.?  What has changed in 5 years, especially in the past few years while being associated with TPiR Live?  Even now, I'd pick Todd over Drew to host the show 9 times out of 10, even though Drew has shown improvement since that certain episode last week.

Supposedly something happened that caused somebody to sour majorly on him during or after his formal Price audition... that's what I've heard anyway.

Michael Burger would have been a good choice...

Having seen Marc Summers at TPIR Live, I can tell you he did a GREAT job. He was absolutely awesome. Todd I've seen do it many times, and he does great. One guy I was VERY surprised at...JD Roberto. I really didn't see much of Shop Til You Drop with him, so I didn't know what to expect. But he hit a grand slam, and I wish they'd given him a chance to do a tryout, as I think he would've been awesome. I think maybe having an unknown host TPIR would've been a good idea. It's kinda like a superhero movie, the SHOW is the star, not the host. But that's just me.

I've seen Todd host several shows, and he annoyed the crap out of me on every one.  And Walberg strikes me as too much of a smartass for a show like TPIR.  I wouldn't mind seeing Marc Summers hosting though.  He's got the talent and he's earned it.

And he's just as well-known as Carey. The kids who watched "Double Dare" in the 80s and 90s fit well into that college/young adult demographic. He's quite good on Food Network's "Unwrapped".

I would doubt that very seriously.  Maybe in our insular little world of game show fans, but not to the general public.

I should clarify. I was referring to the younger generation who watched him on DD in the 80s and 90s.

But point taken.

I used to watch Double Dare when I was a kid, and when I saw Marc's name online for the first time around '98, I didn't even know who he was.  Most people probably haven't heard his name in considerably longer than that.

I was just in Vegas and saw TPIR Live on Christmas day for the second time with Todd and Randy (the last time being April of last year). Every time I see it makes me wish more and more that they were the ones doing the show at the Bob Barker Studio. I do agree with the criticism of Todd's hosting on Whammy!, but he does a terrific job with the stage show and has great on-stage chemistry with Randy. They also take the time to meet the audience members as they exit the theater which adds a nice personal touch to the show.

On a side note, there's a relatively new show called the $1,000,000 Vegas Game Show (http://\"http://www.gameshowvegas.com/index.php\") (NOT the Eubanks/Farr/Woolery show which is no longer running). Most of the prizes are el cheapo and the big ones especially the million are next to impossible to win, however I'd say it's worth a shot if you have a free afternoon and can get half price tix like I did.

Funny you mention that....I went to that last Sunday. I actually got to play for the million, but sadly didn't win. I didn't win the show tix either, haha. But I got a hat. I think it's a good show, but it's one of those things that if you see it once, you've seen it enough. Not like TPIR Live where you can go multiple times and it's fun each time. $1,000,000 Game Show is kinda like a lottery show with next to nothing knowledge needed. All you need to know how to do is yell "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" haha.

Looking at their website, "Your On A Roll" makes the Baby English Teacher Jesus cry.
