it has been revealed that "Temptation" is going to play out over the summer "silly" season in it's normal timeslot (7pm weeknights) in all new episodes - starting Monday, 1st December. It's unusual for the networks here to run locally-made, first-run shows here during the summer, and "Temptation" is not exactly the cheapest show to produce ($70,000 an episode apparently). The cost factor was one of the reasons it was dumped this year for "Two and a Half Men" (which cost $20,000 an ep to broadcast here). In any case, I for one will be very pleased to see "Temptation" back on our screens!

Well, if there's a version that deserves to continue, it's the Australian version.
/Sigh

I cannot wait to see this again.

I hope and trust that our Aussie friends will make this series available through the usual means.

It's about bloody gawddamn time. The Australian Temptation was (and is) the best game show on television anywhere in the world today.
Welcome back Ed and Liv!

Despite my 11-hour shift at work today, I now have another reason to be thankful. Awesome, awesome news.
A question, though: since I've moved and my IP has changed, will I need to register a new Diwana account?
-
Great to hear it's returning...maybe that will help ease the painful memory of last year's Godawful US version.

Here's a long-ish news story from Australia about how "quiz and game shows are on the nose. In just 18 months, the axe has fallen on several prime-time programs," not just in Australia but worldwide. There's a bit of space given to Temptation, getting a few quotes from Ed Phillips and acknowledging its return as a summer replacement series:
The fate of Temptation and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? is more worrying. Both shows are top quality. The Phillips/Nixon combination clicks on the former and Rove McManus and the six children shine on the latter.
And then there's this:
Another possible explanation for the game show slump is that the most recent batch are dumbed down compared to their forerunners -- concentrating far too much on pop culture and trivia than general knowledge.
Ed has a good comeback:
"That's where Temptation has the strength,'' Phillips says. "If you go through and win four or five nights, you've got to be smart. There's no bluffing it.''

All true Kniwt.
I think in my opinion the networks are more interested in profits rather than programmes. And there's only one place where the profits go to-the shareholders. It is these shareholders that really run the networks.

And that concludes this holiday edition of Matt Ottinger's Masters of the Obvious.

Don't be too happy -- it's the episodes taped something like six months - one year ago .. before Nine announced not renewing the contract.

Still, can't wait too to watch it again. Maybe they'll do another series if ratings are good again, after all.

I feel this will likely be the last relevant time to mention that while on hold with Fremantle on a call before I flew out to MDP, I was treated to the US Temptation theme music. No joke.

Honestly, the set and the theme song were the two things I actually liked about Temptation. Theme could've ran about 45 seconds longer, but it was decent enough.

Oooooo. So did I. Stuffing, too. And jello. It was delicious.
Always happy to have a decent version of $otC return to television.
It's also nice to have programs with returning champions being presented in taping order.

And also nice to see an elegant game show with a budget to match said elegance, and not rush their contestants off within five days.
/Geez did the US Temptation completely miss the point...

/Geez did the US Temptation completely miss the point...[/quote]I actually never had it pegged as "elegant" as such, but the feel exuded matches the fact that you can win nearly a million dollars in cash/stuff, and the game is treated with the appropriate level of gravity. Not so much that it feels overdone, but it is just right.
/Wonders how much of the $70,000 per episode allotment went to the new graphics and colors.

So far, no sign of the new eps on Diwana. Any chance one of you fine Aussie folk can help a brother out?
