Title: Thanksgiving Day Price...
Post by: TimK2003 on November 16, 2008, 10:00:16 PM
Since this is the first year in a while that I am not able to access the CBS affiliate website, is there anyone out there who knows if CBS will be filling some open spots with TPIR year???

Last year as you recall it was feast or famine, depending on which time zone you were in.  You may not have seen any Drew eps, or you may have seen up to three.

CBS.com indicates no episodes this year.

The schedules I'm seeing indicate famine this year. KTVT (Dallas) is showing the parade from 8 to 11 (CT), when NFL Today starts. Ditto for KHOU (Houston). WIVB (Buffalo) shows the parade from 9 to noon (ET). KIRO (Seattle) goes straight from the west coast feed of The Surly Early Show to NFL Today.

(not surly anymore since Gumbel left)

This year, they segue right from the parade to the TEN/DET football game (then prolly to syndie afternoon fare after 4PM ET).

/Could be 11-0 vs. 0-11.

Yup...The odd years are the best bet for TPiR, as CBS has 12:30-3:30 to fill gaps (3:30 is NFL TODAY, then the NFL). Even years, CBS carries NFL TODAY at 12:00, then the game from 12:30-4. Perhaps '09 will have TPiR on Turkey Day.

Of course, alot of people in SE Michigan and NW Ohio are expecting the game being blacked out, as the Lions had two home games in a row blacked out already. In that case, CBS affils in that region are on their own all day.

I really can't see the Thanksgiving Day game not being a sellout, though. Is attendance *really* that bad?

/and will the NFL *ever* dump that horribly antiquated policy?

But it won't be.

/Although the Lions did do their part.

If yesterday was any indication the answer to that is no, Chris.  I think it was for the home opener that some charitable folks bought the remaining tickets so it wouldn't be blacked out -- but I think it was more for the purpose of a tax write-off contribution.

Yesterday's game was blacked out due to lack of ticket sales and with blackout deadline of noon today (72 hours before kickoff), I doubt the blackout will be lifted -- especially since I'm still seeing commercials to get tickets for the Thanksgiving game.  And, being in Lansing, I'm within the 75 mile blackout radius.

Y'know, if the auto makers DO get bailed out, maybe William Clay Ford will use his chunk to buy a better team instead of building that new stadium that seats only haf as many as the Silverdome did.  With his current "product", he can't fill the 40,000 seats he has, let alone the 80,000 seat Silverdome.

In the Win/Loss column, the Lions look bad, but on the field, they are trying to win games...
...Unlike the Cleveland Browns.

PROGRAMMING NOTE:  Cleveland Browns Braylon Edwards will be a special guest on Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve show as he will be responsible for "dropping the ball" at midnight.

/Braylon's good at dropping the ball.
//So good, he is getting $6 million for a celebrity endorsement for Maxwell House -- Good to the last drop!
///Damn, the Browns suck!!!

Comfused, am I. Ford Field seats almost 70K for football, doesn't it?

And the Philadelphia Eagles.

ObGameShow: Former Eagle QB Randall Cunningham had his own game show called "Scramble" back in the early '90s.

Well, I am chagrined to admit there is a sadist loose in the city of Detroit.  The blackout got lifted and we had to suffer through watching the stuffing being knocked out of the Turkeys, 47-10, the worst defeat in the 75 years Detroit has hosted a Thanksgiving Day game.

I have to admit, though, I couldn't turn it off -- it was like the feeling you get when you pass an accident.

Thankfully, there's only four more weeks of this torture to endure this season.

Noticed that, too, did you?
Wait'll they take on the nearly undefeated Titans next week.
We could see a college football type score, even if Tennessee rests their A-listers.
ObDrewCarey: He's a Browns fan.

I heard that there was a "Fried Turkey" showcase on the Thanksgiving day episode.  Does anyone have that on tape?  ;-)
