The final episode of the 1979-80 season of Tic Tac Dough was presented today on GSN.
So the big question to fester our anguish over the weekend is:
Will we hear the voice of Jay Stewart on Monday or that of Art James?
If it's Jay, it's the season we just saw all over again.
If 'tis Art, we'll be picking up where we left off this morning.
Enjoy that weekend.

Thanks to the handy-dandy PDF files that float around, the answer is already known. Tomorrow will be the 3rd season premiere of TTD - they'll run the 16 episodes of the season featuring Thom...then go back to the 2nd season premiere.
-
Well, that will free up some space on my DVR...
-
Good to know. Now I can worry about something else this weekend.
It is unfortunate that they're going back to the start of the second season after Thom is defeated.
As I recall, his conqueror did a fairly impressive job himself and it would have been interesting to see him in action for a while.
Will Monday be the day the program moves to its latest new time period?
-
Yup, 930 am

Nice. I prefer to think of it the same way mitchgroff is a few posts earlier in this thread.
Still a pity. Not sad. Not mad. Just too bad.

GSN most likely just picked up the entire second season and the rest of Thom's run to save that bit of extra money to air the entire third season.

Interesting that they could negotiate for just a small part of a season. For years it's been one whole season at a time. Maybe they got them on a cost-per-episode basis like they must do for some of their one-offs (the "Feast of Favorites" for example).
Just speculating...

So for the 1980-81 season, the SECRET CATEGORY has moved to the bottom center.
And the make and model of the car are a mystery.
All we got out of Art James was, "...for your driving enjoyment (or maybe he said "pleasure"), it's a brand new car!".
This I wonder. Did the disappearing challenger ever return for another show?

Today's episode was one of 3 episodes of the 1980-81 season to appear in the Tic Tac Thom Marathon, now this isn't the first time we've seen GSN advanced to the next season for a few episodes and then rewind to the premiere week of the previous season, we've seen Win, Lose or Draw advanced to Season 2 for only 20 episodes before GSN turned back the clock to the syndie debut, we've also seen Love Connection, the one that followed Win, Lose or Draw advanced to the 1992-93 season debut week, but then rewind back to the 1991-92 season debut week which was also the rookie week at being at Hollywood Center Studios and the rookie week of the jazzy theme music era of LC, this was before that "A Day of Valentine's" marathon came up in 2004.

What year did they do that marathon? The only Mckee I recall is the same ones they've done on Feast of Favorites(Viewer's choice, whatever name you want to use) before. It did seem like that one last year on Viewer's choice was one I hadn't caught before.

GSN did run a bit of TTD's 3rd season during the Dark Period, including the reign of Thom's successor, Erik Krepalein(sp?)...also got to see quite a few 5-digit pots won b/c of the Secret Category. All in all, def a good season...pity GSN's only going as far as the end of McKee's run this time around.

Really? I noticed in the last few weeks that they only had the Secret Category in the first game between any two opponents. I assumed that was a conscious decision.

They did have a few in the 79-80 season, as well...I specifically recall big winners Doc Fass and Mark Leinwand among those who won 5-digit pots (not to mention McKee's record-breaking $36.8K win). However, it wasn't really until the next season when it became more common to see the SC in the later games when consecutive ties occured...there were at least 2 occasions where the pot grew to over $20K.
