I vote for Renee Zellweger. She has that sallow look about her, same as Dorothy.
Anyone better out there?

No, I'm not kidding. (http://\"http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117993286.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2563\")
So, they HAVE to include at least a brief scene with the WML? panel. Assuming it's a one-day cameo shoot so they can get any star they want, who would you cast as Arlene Francis, Bennett Cerf and John Daly?
And for that matter, who plays Dorothy?
-
Hey, no fair upstaging the moderator by three minutes!
OK, combining threads.
-
Sandra Bullock as Dot, Cameron D as Arlene. Leo Dicaprio as Bennett (he can play anything) and Geo Clooney as JCD.
-
Philip Seymour Hoffman. There IS NO OTHER Bennett Cerf.

Approves. (http://\"http://www.hartlarsson.com/greatis/imgs/Capote-1.jpg\")
/Can still probably use the same wardrobe.
-
Minnie Driver.
-
John O'Hurley as Bennett Cerf, Meredith Vieira as Arlene Francis, Bob Saget as John Charles Daly.
-
No...John O'Hurley as Mark Goodson.
Sigourney Weaver as Dorothy
(second choice-Annette Benning in a black wig)
Penelope Ann Miller as Arlene
Ralph Fiennes as John Daly
(if you can't get him, David Strathairn, who played Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night and Good Luck"; he's got the look and the voice.)
-
Stanley Tucci as Daly, with wig, of course. His fastidious waiter in "Big Night" makes me think he could do a wonderful Daly. Strathairn is awfully good, though--maybe he could play Steve Allen.
Annette Benning as Arlene. Or Sarah Jessica Parker.
If not Renee Zellwinger as Dorothy, maybe Mary Louise Parker from "Weeds."

Maybe if he lost 50 pounds. David Paymer could pull off a plausible Cerf as well.
Ralph Fiennes as John Daly
(if you can't get him, David Strathairn, who played Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night and Good Luck"; he's got the look and the voice.)
Fiennes was unconvincing as Charles Van Doren but would be a good JCD. So would Strathairn, but he'd have to learn how to say "Mistuh Suhf" given Daly's brogue.
Bob Saget as Daly? O'Hurley as Goodson? You've got to be kidding. O'Hurley MAYBE as Steve Allen or Robert Q. (you'll need four panelists). Martin Scorsese as Goodson? He doesn't have the pipes but he's the type and would be more convincing than O'Hurley.
-
Well, if the roles don't have to be bankable names, and it would only be about five minutes of screentime, why not throw a bone to us game show fans and have Betsy Palmer play Arlene, Orson Bean play Bennett and Bob Elliot or Mike Wallace play JCD. Still would need a somewhat youthful name actress for the lead.
-
I can see Strathairn as Goodson, he's just got to get that comb-over thing going.
-
For whatever reason, when I first saw the question asked, I thought Philip Seymour Hoffman would be a natural Cerf (agreeing with the peanut gallery), but I went off the board when thinking of a Daly.
Maybe it's me, but I think Paxton Whitehead (British-born character actor best known as the stuffy econ prof in "Back to School") could pull off John Charles Daly. Admittedly, Whitehead is now in his early 70s, but I saw a recent photo of him, and he doesn't seem to have aged much since BtS.
