Title: Password or Pyramid?
Post by: tpirfan28 on June 28, 2008, 07:11:07 PM
A slightly perplexing question:

Which game would you rather play, Password or Pyramid?  And you can have any version, too.

It's a tough decision for me, but I'd want to be on classic Password (1960's).  A completely pure game on its own merit.

Definitely the Super Password for me.

I like both shows equally. Both are, IMO, the best word-association games of all time to feature celebrities, and IMO, were at their best in the 1980's.

I'd also go for the 60s classic version of Password.  I do enjoy all of the other incarnations, including the current one.  But the charm of the original has never been surpassed.

For me, it's Pyramid.  I was a contestant on June 20, 1978, exactly thirty years ago last week.

If money was not a factor, I'd rather play the classic Password.  But obviously, the potential for winning a lot more money is available to you with any version Pyramid.

I'll take the Super Password/Pyramid hour... Super Password front game, Pyramid end game-and I'm giving the clues.

Save, perhaps, the current Million Dollar Dance Remix.

Sid Hoffman.
Oh wait, wrong game.
I would say Password, I guess because it's more of a challenge. But Pyramid obviously was great in it's own right.

As a contestant, I'd have to go primarily by how much I could expect to win. MDP, no contest. As a celeb, I'd base it on my enjoyment of the game and format. If I were good enough for them to book me in Tournament weeks, I'd choose $100KP. Otherwise, I'd choose Super Password.

Sid Hoffffffrenchman. Sorry, you lose again.

I'd pick Pyramid, because I think my cluegiving ability would be better used there. (I talk too much, what can I say?)

For the simpleness of the game, it has to be the original CBS Password.  It's not just giving one-word clues, it's trying to come up with good clues that can be a challenge.  Pyramid is OK but sometimes, I might tend to get a bit too descriptive if I give the clues.  So, Password it is.

That's tough, but while I really appreciate the game-playing skill involved in finding perfect Password clues, I think the Winner's Circle would just be so much more exciting. So Pyramid for me.

As big of a Password fan as I am, the existence of a game like Pyramid is about as close as I'll ever come to acknowledging evidence of a benevolent God. There's just no question.

I would give almost anything to go back in time and play $100K Pyramid with Dick Clark standing next to me.

Well said my friend.

And if I could go back in time, I would like to be a contestant on the original Password, move up to You Don't Say! and wrap up my "contestant career" on 100K Pyramid. The three best word association games ever invented!

Money aside, give me ABC Password - that's the version I first remember seeing while I was a child, and that's the version we have so little of left now.  There was just a certain charm about it.  I didn't have a chance to see Pyramid much in its first few years because of its time slots (couldn't skip school that often!)

Yeah, that too.

I'd probably take Password, in the Super/Plus era. Would honestly love to go on MDP, but I think I'm disqualified from doing so...

Would love to do Pyramid, but my biggest fear is getting flustered on TV during the front game. I kill at that* and Taboo during game night, but under lights?........

*Figuratively

/Although, I once cut a guy for buzzing me during Taboo

I'd have to go with either version of the 80s Pyramid.  Regular Password seems a bit too cut and dry.  Also, while I enjoy watching them, I'm not particularly good at solving the puzzles on either Password Plus or Super Password.

I would prefer to be on the 80s version because it isn't one loss and done.

60s Password for sure.  I recently found the 1962 12th Edition of Password at a local thrift store, and found out that I have somewhat of a gift with the game.

I'm guessing just a bit too simple. Give clue, hope partner gets the word early, lather-rinse-repeat. Me, personally, I love a good challenge, so I wouldn't mind, even if it meant just $250, or a few grand on the ABC version.

That makes two of us.  I don't mind the show, and I know it was Tom Kennedy's longest-running hit, but I don't see how it could have been so popular for so long in the '60s.

I may be in the minority, but based on the '70s episodes in the trade curcuit, I actually like that version better.

I can understand your feelings (and I probably won't change your minds); but of all the offshoot word games that came out in the wake of Password's success (in the '60s), YDS! IMO was the best. I like to think of it as "phonetic Password".

And the '60's episodes were better, only because there weren't as many good celeb players in the '70s version, IMO.

My apologies for veering this topic off course.

I'd opt for the (Super) Password (Plus) era, only because I like the idea of solving a password to get a crack at a larger puzzle, add to that the fact that I liked Alphabetics better than the Lightning Round.

I for one always thought of the Pyramid front games as dull. I used to always switch to another show, but switch back around the time they were in the Winner's Circle.

You meant to say MDP is Pyramid, right?

When they actually introduce a "puzzle" in the new version, which has a slight chance in hell of happening, it can be called Password. It's a good show, despite the changes from previous versions. Also of note, they put all 6 shows back up on CBS.com, so you can catch them if you missed any.
