Title: Homemade Props and Sets
Post by: SamPrainito on June 14, 2008, 01:52:56 AM
As I've mentioned here before, I host an annual TPIR show as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.  The show is later this year, but I'm already preparing.

This year, in addition to everything else, I have to repaint all of my props and sets to resemble their new TV counterparts.

I wanted to share the results of this year's biggest project with everyone.

I have three theater flats that are 8ft tall by 4ft wide, and for the last four years, they've had the pink/light blue/dark blue turntable pattern on them.  Of course, they had to be repainted with purple hypercyloids on them! (I'm a perfectionist like that!)

So I went from this...

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/s...on/100_0311.jpg (http://\"http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/samprainito/Set%20Construction/100_0311.jpg\")

To this...

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/s...on/100_0326.jpg (http://\"http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/samprainito/Set%20Construction/100_0326.jpg\")

And finally to this...

http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/s...on/100_0398.jpg (http://\"http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee212/samprainito/Set%20Construction/100_0398.jpg\")

If these things meet the approval of my fellow "game show geeks", then I know my audience will be impressed!  Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks!

-Sam

You're missing one thing.  Got a few strings of Christmas tree lights hanging around?  :)

Sam - please go on with the show now that Lemon's given his approval.

Honestly, though, nice job on them!

Would you kindly post a of the picture spelling bee board you have in the background? Great job!

First of all, thanks to everyone for your comments!  I really do appreciate it.

I wish I did have the ability to put lights around the theater flats, but they are a cloth material on a wooden frame.  I'm not sure how the material would hold up with Christmas lights attached.  Not only that, but if I burn down the venue, I seriously doubt they'd have us back next year!

Opimus, what you saw in the background was not Spelling Bee.  It was the back of one of the Showcase podiums.  But you did give me an idea for next year's show!

The show is now scheduled for Sunday, October 26th here in St. Louis.  I'll have more updates as the date gets closer.

All of my set pieces have now been updated.  Here's the last batch of pics:

So how much did you pay Bente to make all that for you? ;-)

Seriously, it looks great, and very clever with the eggcrate printouts!

The eggcrates are just the 5x7 matrix printed on five sheets of card stock and glued to a larger piece of black poster board.

The circles are filled in by a crew member backstage, and slid into the podiums before the results of the Showcase are revealed.
