I rarely see the daytime show because I'm usually taping Tic Tac Dough on GSN and am not home very often from 11am-noon ET, but I've noticed something on the three prime time spectaculars.
Drew asks Rich who the next contestant to come on down is and Rich replies, "Here they come" or "Here they are". Am I missing something or is he pluralizing the invitee to Contestants' Row for an odd unknown reason?

Are you not a fan of singular "they" when someone's gender has not been established, or are you wondering why he does it even with names about which there would be little doubt?
-
I wondered about that too, but then I realized it would eliminate a percentage of the audience if he said "he/she".

"Singular 'they'". No, I confess that's a new one for me.
I do admit to not being a fan of addressing ladies as "guys".

Also, Rich generally doesn't know anything other than the name...and they do get girls named Kyle and guys named Shannon every once in awhile.

Given the annoying qualities of certain contestants, I propose "here the dumb f***er comes." Perfectly grammatically correct and avoids the he/she/they problem. ;-)

Then there's no need for him (or should I say they?) to say, "Here he is" or "Here she is".
Rich could say, "Here's the lucky person now, Drew..." or "It's Kyle Shannon!"
Also, I thought M or F was indicated on the card given to Rich where it lists the name of the person to call.

Though I would also not have a problem with "JOHN SMITH! Get your ass down here, you're the next contestant on The Price is Right!"

If Howie started saying "Here's the bank offer, you dumb, lazy c*** s***er," they'd gain at least one extra viewer.
\No, it's not "cork soaker."

"C'mon, dumbass, deal or no deal? It's not like this is [CENSORED] 'Jeopardy!' here!"
"And because it is all about family, if you don't take the deal, not only do you have to open three more cases, I'm going to [CENSORED] that hot wife of yours. Deal or no deal?"

Not so much eliminate, as remove-from-suspense.
But, yeah, it's pretty awkward. I'd rather call a lectern a podium any day.

I don't think you have to censor the word "bore" on these boards. Mods?

I believe that depends on which form of the word "bore" you're using.
