Title: Does Rich Fields Deserve the Nobel Peace Prize?
Post by: Mike Tennant on October 31, 2007, 11:48:42 AM
We've all said our piece about Rich Fields here enough (my opinion:  he's okay but not great), and we've also said that many of us (including me) would have preferred Randy West get the job.  I found an interesting tidbit (http://\"http://www.golden-road.net/index.php?topic=4457.msg64038#msg64038\")  over at G-R which actually provides a plausible explanation as to why Rich ended up with the job:

Quote
Inside information suggests another reason why Rich was chosen out of nowhere--the very fact that he WAS such a random choice landed him the job.  Allegedly, according to sources, the staff felt that Randy and Burton were the best two and the two camps got a little touchy about it--so no matter which of the two insider favorites was hired, it had the potential to cause personnell issues.  Since no one wanted that, the decision was made to hire someone neutral to all sides.  Thus, Rich was chosen.

So he got the gig because nobody liked him! Now it all makes sense!

plausible explanation[/quote]
Certainly an explanation, and it might even be an accurate one. But if that's true, then whoever made THAT idiotic decision should be fired. Period.

If you think Bob Barker made any sort of decision with regard to that show that actually took team chemistry into account... :)

Besides, based on the first version of the press release, I thought Bob hired Ron Fields, not Rich. :-)

Gawd forbid there should be personnel issues and discord on TPIR staff!

Oh wait, Barker fired all those people.
