"Tell it to Roger, man!" =D

And already, the naysayers are groaning about how much they miss Barker and how bad Drew sucks, etc...as if a 2-minute clip is enough to make an accurate judgement on. But then, I suspect people raised on the Cullen version were saying the same thing back in 1972...however, I'll wait until I've seen a full ep before giving my opinion.

What the heck. They actually used the freeware Pricedown font with the knockoff dollar symbol as a screen font?
And just based on the little clip, I'm already liking Drew's hosting style; it's clear that he Gets It™.
And did they redo "Walking" too?

Yep.

Wow....Drew handled that well, with some funny one-liners, and just letting the woman be herself. Good job Drew.

He was great with that contestant. He let her sparkle. He also did a great job moving the game along and dealing with the stuck Plinko chip.
Just noticed, he's got two mics -- his handheld and one on his tie.
He needs to take the hesitancy out of his One Bid reveals.

'Be' herself?
Not the word I would have used.
/Then again, I'm not normal.

Two minutes isn't much to go on, but building on the last couple of comments in this thread, he also seems much more natural than Bob did, even in his best years on the show.

I agree. I really like Drew's style in that clip.

There's also another video on innertube/cbs.com with a Drew interview/clips from the show.

That clip is fantastic! Someone get the polish, that baby has "Emmy" written all over it. ;-)
-
One thing I just noticed after watching the clip again (less than 24 hours now...damnit, hurry up), in pretty much every shot with "her", Drew's always smiling...something Barker pretty much never did in the last several years.
-
So let me start by saying yes. Drew Gets It Big Time, based on that clip. That said, I will offer two critical bits to the table...
1) Drew could stand to hold that mic a little farther away, so it doesn't pop as much. I have no doubt that he'll get that figured out in due time.
2) Is it just me, or was that stuck Plinko chip high enough where she possibly could have knocked it free herself, resulting in a valid drop?
Submitted for your discussion.

If it becomes an issue, I'm sure the director and/or audio guy will "help" him figure it out.

Yes, but A) that's TPIR esoterica, which I wouldn't expect Drew to know this soon, and B) that "rule" always smelled like something Barker invented, and it's really a (slightly) unfair advantage for that chip with the reduction of randomization.

It appears that it no longer just the contestants that exude energy. Drew is genuinely happy to be there and it shows.
-
There's only one thing that's making me a little sad about today's Price. From all the interviews I've seen, it's clear that not only does Drew "get it," but he was genuinely moved by the reaction he got when he started doing this job. So there ought to be a sense of occasion about his first episode. I don't mean the promotions; CBS is doing their due diligence in promoting the crap out of it. But why not let Drew's first show *be* Drew's first show? After all, Drew understood the occasion of the "Power of 10" premiere, and made mention of it during the episode. It's a small, small thing, but it seems a shame to let the moment pass and bury the first Drew-taped episode somewhere in December.
-
I decided to play around on YouTube yesterday and look at some older TPiR clips. Bob was just so different, even as recently as 1995. He was so enthusiastic then. While I thought he was still pretty good in his latter years of hosting, he did appear a little cranky. Drew's the man, and yes, even I thinks he "gets it."

"Gets it"!
Citing Drew's occasional line from ABC's Whose Line?...
"If I had a nickel for every time I heard THAT..."
At 11 Eastern, break a hand, Drew! :)

Interestingly enough, I saw a new "Whose Line Uncensored" DVD at Wal-Mart last night, and nearly picked it up, but I was already blowing my yearly $60 on Madden.

They make pop filters out of fake fur. I've used them and they work great.

Not that anyone from CBS with an interest in TPIR audio will read this ...
