The National Sports Collectors Convention (http://\"http://www.nsccshow.com/\") is in Cleveland this year. I spent my afternoon there. One of the new releases available at the show is the Topps line of Allen and Ginter cards (http://\"http://www.topps.com/Sellsheet/ProductSellSheet.aspx?sportsid=0&l=n&ReleaseNo=152\"). In this year's set are a subset of 20 world champions, one of which is Ken Jennings.
I bought a box and got a KenJen "rookie". (The price guides will consider it a rookie card since it is KenJen's first official trading card.) A big scan of the card can be found here (http://\"http://www.classicgameshows.com/other/kenjencard.jpg\"). The Allen and Ginter set also has KenJen game worn shirt cards and KenJen short printed autographed cards. A good number of the shirt and autographed cards have found their way to eBay.

So, I have to know.
Explain this "rip card" thing to me?
-
Dammit, my mom threw out all my game show champion cards when I moved out of the house. I know my Tom McKee had to be worth $12.00. It was in mint condition!

From what I can tell, it's a thicker version of the regular card with a smaller card inside. I don't get it either.
/Screw the card within a card. Bring back the stick of chalky gum in every pack.

What's next, Upper Deck presents game worn Game Show Legends series, complete with the Michael Larson card, featuring a piece of the 5,000+ a spin slide.

It's been done, at least with football cards. Donruss' Rookies and Stars product had (has?) a subset called Slideshow, which were 35mm slides or 35mm slide film mounted onto normal card stock.
-
Not having been into sports cards for a while, I do recall seeing small pieces of "game worn" jerseys attached to cards, however actual slides I've never seen, sounds interesting.

*snicker* That describes almost every product nowadays--a combination of 2 to 6 autographed cards or memorabilia (game used jersey, bat, shoe, ball, helmet, or glove swatches) per box, if not a signed card or memorabilia card per pack.
-
Man, and I just used to get the normal sets. You know, the ones that were special because they were either Series 1 or Series 2 (or maybe even Series 3).

Anyone else catch the factual error in the text on Ken's card? (If you didn't, go to Ken's site and look it up on his message boards.)

Isn't he from Utah, and not Seattle?

I'm guessing that's how the justify the high price a pack of cards goes for now?
I miss the old days of HOOPS and Skybox NBA cards...

What?! And risk gum stains! Begone, foul heathen!
(Baseball cards stopped being fun to collect once all of those boutique "premium" brands started coming out. Upper Deck commenced the shark-jumping.)

He moved out here after the Jeopardy run, but I believe at the time he was from Utah. (I would guess Ken can tell us for certain himself.)

As dedicated fans of his blog know (cough cough), Ken moved to Seattle a bit after all of his J! appearances. He may have lived there in the past--I know his father lives there, at least going by his moniker on the J! boards.

I would blame Fleer (Flair) or Press Pass (the company I thought was the first) to use game/race-used memorabilia.

Correct..."Salt Lake City-area software engineer" would have been more accurate. Wow, just think how much these rare "error" cards will be worth!

I think there are still places (card shows) where I can find non-grab bags for under $2. It's been awhile since I've been able to look though.
/If I could only find the card shows in Pittsburgh
ObTradingCard: Many moons ago, my dad worked for Fleer. He got paid in bubble gum and Marvel Superhero cards (and money, presumably).

Calling Fred W! Calling Fred W!
Here's your chance to make more big money by taking all your promotional and candid stills and create a line of game show trading cards....a 1950 to 1960 batch of "Vintage" portraits, Rookie cards (Wink on "What's That Song?", other hosts' first shows), a 1960s set, 70s, 80s, and so on - hosts, sets, producers (with Enright's card equating him with the Black Sox scandal..."Say it ain't so, Dan..."), key people like announcers, designers, "Theme composer Hall of Fame"...jeez...it's nearly endless. And make sure there's a Malcolm card in the batch.... :-)
Of course.....do you think anybody would want to collect them??
