Title: making a demo tape
Post by: hayhnh on July 29, 2007, 11:57:40 PM
Hi, okay.  So now I'm in the process of making a demo tape for a game show idea.
Does anyone have an idea as to what would be good content for the demo tape?
Should I just shoot one show and edit it to about 5 minutes or should I try to shoot 2-3 shows and pick out the best of each show and try to keep it also at about 5 minutes?

Thank you all for your help.

Don't shorten the game for presentation. Play one complete main game and one complete end game, if that's what you have. Present the whole thing.

Yes, you will want to at least play an entire game.  If it takes an entire episode to play then so be it.  Five minutes of highlights is not a good demo tape.  Remember, you're piloting a new game show idea here, not pitching an already picked up one to stations.

I'm not sure if this promotion from MySpace and Fox  (http://\"http://newteevee.com/2007/07/26/myspace-looking-for-tv-pilots/\") is restricted to just 'scripted' shows, or if game show pilots might be considered, but then again, it might be worth a try.

I wouldn't be surprised if somewhere down the road there is a contest which will look at homemade pilots for "America's Next Game Show"®  (HINT, HINT).
