I don't have a link because I haven't seen a formal press release for it yet, but the information was sent to affiliates and I confirmed it with my contact at the network today.
MyNetworkTV is scheduled to air back-to-back episodes of "Temptation" from 8-9pm (ET) on Wed., Sept. 5. From what I have been told, it's scheduled to premiere in syndication on Sept. 10, so this looks to be a pre-launch preview of the show.
-
Interesting. That's sorta like what NBC did with "Ozzie's Girls" back in '73. Even though it was a syndicated show, the pilot aired on the network right before the syndication debut.
-
Damn it. The MyNetwork affiliate in my area is extremely low-power over-the-air only...and I can't get it. I'm just hoping the show isn't fully on this network in my area.
-
Considering MNTV still gets piss-poor, if any, reception in some parts of the country (and some stations opted to go independent instead), they might want to consider putting an episode or two online. Honestly, as much flak as the network gets, they really need to promote this, and make reference to the syndicated version.
Nice way for them to celebrate their first birthday though...

To update, these are going to be "celebrity" episodes, with former American Idol contestants playing for charity.

Yech. Is this show starting off on the wrong foot?
-
It's not a bad idea as far as trying to find a few extra eyeballs by using some young-viewer draws. However, they need to get the word out on exactly who is involved, and do it quickly - not only are they on MyTV, but they're up against a fairly popular game show on CBS as well. Quite the double whammy.

At least they're not up against "...5th Grader?" on their sister network, as I thought they were. (It's a "'Til Death" double-pump in what would've been the finale of "Anchorwoman.")
And considering the circumstances, I don't blame them for doing the celebrity shows as the MyTV preview. It's going to be airing on stations that aren't carrying the show--and I don't think it would be a good idea for starting on Sept. 10 by referring to two shows that not only may not have aired on the same station, but may not have aired in the market at all. Might as well the celeb shows to plug the regular series on start on Sept. 10 with a clean slate contestant-wise.

Not necessarily. Like Chris La. said, it could get younger viewers drawn in, and honestly, why not cross-promote one of your company's biggest shows, if not the biggest (both are Fremantle)? Obviously, they won't get a Fantasia/Clay/Kelly match-up, but it's still not a bad idea.
Like it or not, people watch Idol, and Temptation is well-aware of that. Smart move IMO.

They can and did. It's him, Mikalah Gordon and Kimberly Caldwell. According to my MNT contact, those 3 will be on both episodes that night. Not sure if the game will straddle or if they're playing a different game in each episode.
/Knowing MNT, they may also be showing the same episode twice.
//After all, this is the same network that's going to air 5-year-old repeats of NBC's Meet My Folks starting next month.

Yeah, I understand that angle (as much as I personally dislike Idol).
My concern is if they can actually play the game, or is the series gonna start off like an SNL Celebrity Jeopardy! sketch, and everyone's turned off from day one.
Honestly, I think it's a bad sign when in 2007 your show doesn't have an official website.
After all my Googling, I still couldn't tell you if it'll be on in Fort Wayne, IN or not...

It's nothing different than Geoff Edwards and Marc Summers playing "TalkAbout" in U.S. prime time to promote the show starting Monday on this station. You can't start a championship run on a prime time preview which may be on a different station than the station airing the show in some markets, so do something that might attract viewers. Ultimately, it's the game itself that will bring people back, not the one group of celeb contestants--and anyone reasonably intelligent would know that this is a one-time thing.
I'm not wild about Kimberly Caldwell, but she seems reasonably competent in her TVGN duties, so she might be able to handle this game that is not going to be "Jeopardy!" material-wise to begin with. And whether you like Sideshow Bob or Little Fran Drescher or not, they might be able at least to be competitive.
-
Oddly enough, I've discovered (via tvguide.com) that the preview episodes will not seen by me due to them being on MyNet which is too high on Comcast's digital tier.
However, the series will be airing on CW, which is in the basic lineup.
I think it's a good sign for the show, since ABC, NBC, the CW, and MyNet affils are all owned by the same people in Fort Wayne, and they had enough confidence in the show to put it on CW (channel 19) vs. MyNet (channel 221).

Yeah...I hate you now. ;)
My ABC and MyNet affils are owned by the same people. The ABC station is airing Temptation. The preview is on the MyNet arm. Surely they (ABC arm) could have given up an airing of *something* to put this on the schedule. They don't even have late-night news.
I hate them too. ;)

Um, this is because it is a NETWORK preview. Usually, a network does not air their programming on another network, particularly at the expense of the other network's programming. So if you want to hate them, go ahead, but that hate is WAY misguided.

And all I can think is, "Damn, I'm relieved to hear those questions."
-
It's a good looking set, too.
My hopes have been raised quite a bit. The words "Temptation: The New Sale of the Century" did that.
-
Boy, I feel a lot better now about the potential here, having seen those clips.
And I'm going to take a cue from Bandit Bobby. I"m selling the house, dumping the wife, and putting my 9 month old up for adoption, so that I can buy the biggest damn tv I can, and eliminate any annoyances that may get in the way of me watching Temptation on my local affiliate! For my life now, it's Rossi or nothing at all.
Thanks Bandit! Your words of wisdom have truly moved me!

The name Ginger Simpson sounds familiar. What else has she done?
-
I LOVE the set...and the theme song (from what I heard), sounds sweet...very dramatic but still something you can hum. Am I to assume there's no announcer and Rossi will introduce the show?
And this is just a minor thing with me, but the vanity license plate with the show's name is really cool...a nice throwback to when more shows offered cars, and abbreviated the show's name on a vanity plate.

That's the way the Australian show works, so I imagine our version will be no different. The reporter's (piss-poor) performance is right in line with the format.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no announce after Rossi introduces the show as the reporter does in the clip... just the transitional title roll going by on the screen to give him a chance to get to his post.
-
Dumb question, but is there an audience for the show? It might have been an empty house for the EW thing or I may be completely blind. Not that it matters that much, but I'm just curious.
And yes, everything does look awesome. I know a few people who did work on the pilot and pre-production, and I was basically told horror stories about the show. HUGE relief when I saw that video.

No audience... the size of the set actually makes an audience prohibitive (but not impossible). Most of us who have seen a show done in person usually comment that the stage looks smaller than it does on TV; if that's the case, I can only imagine how huge this one will look!
-
Oh trust me, I know that one. I walked across the "Chain Reaction" set in 4 or 5 steps.
-
Ginger's worked on Phil Gurin's shows, including "Lingo" and "TWL." She also worked on "Love Connection" back in the 80s, meaning that Eric Lieber probably fired her at least once.
All in all, looks like we've got people who get it working on "Temptation." Rossi doesn't have a beautiful sidekick?
-
That set is pretty neat. I don't know if anybody else noticed this, but the price tags on the various prizes reminded me of Wheel's shopping era. As a matter of fact, the entire set looks like a wedge from Wheel's shopping turntable. The car's license plate was a nice touch, too.
I'm really excited for the preview, since that's the only time I will actually be able see the show.

Seriously, I agree. I haven't been this excited about a game show premiere in a very very long time....and I'll even say that I was right up there with the people who thought they were going to ruin it when they mentioned that Morreale was gonna host and that there would be "funny pop-culture" questions.
Plus, fer God's sake, they actually mention $otC in the name! Who the HELL thought they were going to actually acknowledge their past?
I haven't seen much, but what I have seen makes me totally jazzed about tomorrow night, even if I do have to watch Justin Guarini to do it.

Not per se. Rolanda Watts announces all of the Instant Bargains; the models simply... well, model. (Or, my favorite verb for it, "fondle.") But the way the game is staged, there's not a need for a Summer Bartholomew role.

And this, along with the buzz generated about Crosswords makes me very optimistic. The market's obviously hot for game shows, and people have responded to the well-produced prime time games ("Singing Bee", "Power of 10") and even the ones that get slammed here (D/ND, "Lyrics").
The genre hasn't looked this optimistic in a LONG time.
-
Please don't get me wrong. I'm extremely excited for tonight, and I would love even maybe to go on one day. However, is anyone else of the opinion that the set, while good, just isn't as sharp as the Australian one? I don't even pretend that this has anything to do potentially with game play, but just an aside.
-
I liked it better, myself. Rather than the mishmash of windows, there's that entire "stage" around the shopping area.

I dunno, a few months ago when we were first talking about daytime Deal and Joker's Wild along with these felt more optimistic, although it was probably optimism in the sense that there were so many shows, at least one of them had to be good.

When I say "optimistic", I mean in terms of quantity AND quality. From the previews I've seen, and reports I've read, the producers of both new shows GET IT, and that's all I ask.
Even the primetime shows are starting to look good. The shows that shouldn't make it get canceled ("Show Me the Money", "Set For Life"), and the ones that deserve timeslots get them ("Singing Bee", "Power of 10"). There's some that are okay, but I still have problems with ("Are You Smarter...", "Don't Forget..."), but with a little fine-tuning, could be watchable IMODO.
I'm just happy to see some balance with the genre. Endemol's efforts from 2005-07 (except for "1 vs. 100") really scared me, in terms of the future of game shows. With the recent primetime efforts not called "Set for Life", and the syndicated stuff (even "Feud"), the genre looks its best in a long time.
-
Quick question....is Feud starting its new season on 9/10? I was just double-checking Zap2It and it doesn't have a "NEW" tag on either run.
EDIT: I have no friggin' idea why this is here...it should be in the "Fall Skeds" topic.
