Just because Bob Barker has retired from TPIR doesn't mean he is sitting around the house. Looks like Bob wants to make un-spayed & un-neutered pets illegal in California!
The story link is here. (http://\"http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=capitol_reports&id=5465220\")
There is also a video on the story as well at this link with a few soundbites from Barker.

I have nothing against Barker advocating that people spay or neuter their pets. But once there's a law on the table that you HAVE to do it or you're breaking said law, that's where I draw the line. If you want to spay or neuter your pets, fine. But that should be your choice, and not the government's requirement. (I've got a dog who we never got fixed, and he's 12. It's our choice.)

Does that dog leave your yard, or comingle with other animals unsupervised in any way? Can you GUARANTEE me that at NO time during those 12 years did a stray bitch in heat wander around? 'Cuz if you can't, guess what? You're part of the problem.
/okay, so I just wanted to type the phrase "bitch in heat" in a totally legitimate context

Outside of taking him on walks, no, and even then it's usually once around the block and that's it. We kept him inside (and still do).

Line of the Day! LMAO!
Bob should've waited til tomorrow to go to Sacramento to present his point of view, since Wednesdays are the traditional "hump days" and all...

Actually, Tim, I think the Line of the Day just came from you.

And now Countdown's list of the latest Top 3 nominees for Worst Person in the World.
I'm sure registered dog breeders in California are starting a pool as to when this idea gets laughed out of the Capitol.

If such a law were to work, it should only consider abandoned or stray pets.
-
That's what we need, more government laws to solve all our problems. :-)

So, if a pet is abandoned and is still able to breed, it should be penalized because of someone's neglect?
Also, how do you prove that an animal was a stray or abandoned?

When you represent a "silent majority" of "unknown proportions," you can get them to think for you.
-
My problems are twofold:
1) It's not the government's business to tell pet owners what to do with their dogs.
2) The state of Washington seems to do whatever the state of California does. I suspect the Evergreen State is going to be brimming with forlorn male dogs with nothing to sniff very soon.

If the pet is far from the closest community or has no identification tags, the animal must be kept in shelter for a certain period of time until its original or new owner can be found. If the original owner decides against having his or her pet back or no new owner can be found anytime soon, the shelter may allow the animal to reproduce if capable. If the animal is still in the shelter a year after being found abandoned or stray, the idea of mandatory spaying or neutering may take place only if the animal reproduced once.
I would never propose such a law, but if it ever comes into effect it should only consider abandoned or stray pets. Yes, I always think before I speak.

Are you seriously saying that, under your proposal, animal shelters would not be allowed to spay or neuter stray/abandoned animals unless they'd been in the shelter for at least a year and have had a litter?
You do realize that most if not all animal shelters tend to spay or neuter stray/abandoned animals that have been there for less than a month, hopefully before they reproduce even once...and yet most animal shelters are woefully overcrowded (per the link Tim K. posted, which I'm sure you read, about 500,000 dogs and cats are killed each year in shelters in California alone)...right?

If such a law were to exist, shelters would still be allowed to spay or neuter animals less than a year before the procedure is mandatory. Yes, I'm aware of the estimated number of a sheltered animals killed in that state.

If I'm not mistaken, that contradicts what you said in this post (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=157175\"). But in any event, it's clear that once again, you really don't understand what you're saying.
Yes, I'm aware of the estimated number of a sheltered animals killed in that state.
Saying "I'm aware" or "Yes, I think before I post" doesn't make it so, any more than it did in the case of Adam Kleist's "Yes, I really did read that post" or Mark Raby's "Yes, I've learned my lesson and don't lie any more."
Given your propensity for what can be charitably described as bizarre theories, coupled with your inability and/or refusal to explain anything you've ever said here, I believe that moderated status is appropriate from this point forward.

Correct. We like to give people a chance (okay, more than one chance) to improve before taking that step.

First, pets. Then perhaps welfare recipients or select minorities next? Maybe Bob and his high-end (sniffing??) friends could set up and fund a batch of Planned Puppyhood clinics to get their wish. That's just another example of "WE want it done, and we want EVERYBODY ELSE to pay for it." Geez...I feel so bad that Bob's little closing lines have failed to solve the problem world-wide. I'd ask if he thinks he's a world leader, but a few unstable Golden Roaders would demand a public debate with me on that... Grrrr!
