Title: GSN's April Ratings
Post by: game show guy on June 08, 2007, 03:28:03 PM
Well, according to Cableworld (http://\"http://www.cable360.net/cableworld/departments/ratings/\"), GSN fell down to a embarrassing 0.3 rating with 186 HH watching.

GSN needs to realize that with them showing the same CRAP in primetime is VERY DUMB and getting SO OLD now its not even funny. The ratings they are getting are VERY SAD.

Here is what they show in primetime:

High Stakes Poker
World Series Of Blackjack
Weakest Link
Dog Eat Dog
Greed
Chain Reaction

A few others like Show Me The Money will be coming. But that is it.

At least the poker shows do good in ratings. but why is gsn ratings so low?? Because of the next line I have typed.

WHY does GSN like to rerun abuse the same Weakest Link, Dog Eat Dog, Chain Reaction, and other CRAP in PRIMETIME for the 10,000,000^8 AIRING!! NO WONDER NO ONE watches GSN at night anymore.

Look at This (http://\"http://www.cable360.net/cableworld/departments/ratings/16483.html\"). This was in July of 2003, and at that time they had a 0.4 rating with 209 HH watching. WHY?? MAYBE THIS IS WHY.

GSN had the Newlywed Game, Lingo, and MATCH GAME PM in Primetime then. That is WHY THE RATINGS were higher. And we had the SAME PRESIDENT THEN.

And it is not the Saturday night classics that made this rating low. ITS BECAUSE THE PRESIDENT OF GSN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO PUT IN PRIMETIME. Instead, he put the SAME SHOWS!!

This is getting REAL SAD. I am about to CRY:(:( WHY can't GSN look at the bad ratings for once and CHANGE PRIMETIME!! I really think NO ONE at GSN looks at the ratings they are getting. That is why NO ONE WATCHES!!

I used to watch GSN in primetime all the time when they had Best of Family Feud (DAWSON) Match Game, 3's a crowd and other CLASSIC GAME SHOWS. But not anymore. Only on weekends I watch cause they have the Dawson feud marathons, and 50 great game shows.

But they're not. The ratings are tied to the amount of money that the channel earns for ad spots.

No conspiracy needed, actually. Ratings are a direct result of the number of people who watch. Perceived quality of the programming has nothing to do with the ratings. (See: Deal or No Deal.) And they still get 189,000 people to watch. That's great numbers for a casual viewing channel with a very narrow niche.

Welcome to Economics 101.

1. In a free market, people are free to make choices.
2. The market determines the product, and a good product will stay on the market. A bad product will not.

You are free to make the choice to not watch. GSN is not programming to you, or to anyone. Their number one through ten interests are in making money. The strategy that they are employing is earning them money. It is that simple. Get that through your head.

You know what GSG?  You need to stop caring about this.  It seems like your life mission is to fix GSN to exactly what you want.  News flash....IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.  Yes, we can criticize them to hell and back for programming choices, but we move on with our lives.  Your problem...you don't, and you need to.  I'm sure there is not one single damn GSN executive that even knows that this forum exists.  Even if they did, they won't act upon us.  They don't even act upon things brought up by members on their own damn forum.

Case in point...drop it.  They're not gonna change a thing.

^But, why would GSN think that rerunning the same 60 or so eps. of Weakest Link, 40 or so eps of Greed, 20 or so eps of Dog Eat Dog make them ANY more money?? Heck, all of these shows have been on GSN for YEARS!!!!!!! I don't get it!

^ Alright, I will just choose not to watch GSN in primetime unless they fix it up. I was trying to help GSN by putting shows like Family Feud and Match Game in primetime which are their highest rated daytime shows! Thats all.

Actually, some GSN executives do know we exist, but obviously you're correct that they're not particularly inclined to program based on the whims of certain posters.

As I explained to GSG in email -- and as Messrs. Ottinger and Lemon have both noted in this forum in the past -- many of GSN's own executives and staffers are fans of the classics themselves.  If a schedule of nothing but classics were the best choice for GSN business-wise, they'd do it in a heartbeat, and in fact would have no reason not to.  It doesn't, so they don't.

Two good moments IMO:

 - the back-to-prison motorcade stopped just as -- as if to make the perfect commentary -- it was passing a circus.

 - Shepard Smith called Greta Van Susteren "Geraldo."

In the front of your house/apartment/whatever, probably towards the sound of cars you might hear sometimes, there is something that looks like a wall - but it has a circular knob-type object on it. Turn it, open the wall, and enjoy being outdoors. Maybe hop in one of those cars and take a road trip! Endless possibilities.

These were by no means gifted or genius kids, but they rode a regular-length school bus to get to school.

They understood the whole thing about choices and consequences, as they pertain to free will. ("You can't make me!" and so on.)

You haven't even gotten that far. Third graders understand how to argue and bring about conflict resolution. You do not. You are completely correcet that you can watch television whenever you like. GSN can also program whatever they want. If they want to have a primetime block of programs that they think can get people to watch, that's their business. How many times do people have to say that before you'll acknowledge it? Everyone has choices to make. It is not your place to impose your will on anyone.

There's no way to have a discussion with you, because you shut down, plug your fingers in your ears and sing nursery rhymes when someone disagrees with you, or tries to challenge you. It seems that Mr. Game Show Guy -- aka Alex something-or-other -- has decided that being age 95 (http://\"http://img124.imageshack.us/img124/5458/gsgmyspacepage1age95xh6.jpg\") is no fun, so he's decided to change to age 46 (http://\"http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4237/gsgmyspacepage1age46cv7.jpg\").  Unfortunately, he forgot to remove the reference to being in high school, and his birth year is still in the URL of his page (http://\"http://www.myspace.com/biga1989\") (which may show a fourth age by the time you read this).

Memo to Alex (and yes, I know you're reading this): even if your page eventually states that your name is José Jimenez and that you're a 39-year-old rocket scientist in Texas, we know that you were born in 1989, that you're a sophomore in high school (http://\"http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9500/gsgmyspacepage1dl7.jpg\") and that you live in Gahanna, Ohio.  Give it up.

TVOne probably reaches half as many viewers as GSN. I think the latter just hit 50 million homes. A .5 for TVOne is still good.

Wiki says 31 mil for TVOne, 63 mil for GSN, so literally half.

Title: GSN's April Ratings

I just thought it was a statisical oddity that a network with an HH even lower than GSN would have a .5.  Of course, there's HLN with 321K and a .3, so maybe it's just the nature of things.

IIRC, the .3s and .4s are based on the channel's universe, instead of the typical universe used by the networks.  That would explain why a channel (example: TVOne) with a lower HH count would have a higher rating than say one (example: GSN)with a slightly higher HH but with a lower rating.

TVOne probably reaches half as many viewers as GSN. I think the latter just hit 50 million homes. A .5 for TVOne is still good.

That figure was taken from an old press release someone didn't cite.  I found the newer figure from TV One's latest press release and changed the info accordingly.   GSN, look out :)

Wait, snarky?  You mean there's not plans to add a game show fan fiction board here?   NOW where am I supposed to put my torrid story of one 1963 What's My Line episode where John Charles Daly and Bennett Cerf showed each other how they REALLY felt?! :-P

Do you really want me to tell you where you can put your stories?  'Cause I got a couple of parachute accounts handy and I don't mind switching over to them.
