Title: Semi-OT - Proof that Bert Convy is a helluva singer...
Post by: LetsGoMets2003 on June 05, 2007, 12:12:00 PM
Mods, forgive me if this is not allowed - Just wanted to alert my fellow GS-afficianados that my friend posted Bert Convy singing from the Jerry Lewis Telethon in 1979 at  THIS link (http://\"http://www.thetelethonyears.com/\"). (Go to the media page - you'll find the direct link along with a 1991 clip with MG '98 regular, the late Nell Carter.) It'll be up till July 5th - if anybody wants it after that, just PM me, I've got it. Great performance by a great man.

James

EDIT: Fixed the direct link issue (I hope)

You might want to edit that so it doesn't link directly to the file, but otherwise I don't see anyone having a problem with it.

Yeah, but he totally blew the lyrics right out of the gate.

Why do we need proof that Bert Convy was a helluva singer? Doesn't "Black Denim Trousers" count for anything?

Well, guys, gaffes aside on my part (and apparently Bert's) I'm only 20 and knew he used to be a singer but never saw him in action. I'm sure "Black Denim Trousers" counted for something.  As another song goes, "Blame It On My Youth"! :-(

Or, ferheavensake, "Now I Have Everything."  (Unfortunately, that song also proves that Bock and Harnick were capable of writing a less-than-perfect song.  But Bert still sings it terrifically.)
