Claiming a new gig as an Extra correspondent and an upcoming Lifetime TV movie, Mario Lopez says in today's USA TODAY that he's "got so much going on" that he's taking himself out of consideration for the TPIR job. My favorite line in a short article: "Lopez said he would have made the show hip." CBS did not comment.

Well, at least he realizes that a plate can be too full. The other known candidates with the exception of Hamilton have five-day-a-week shows already, will they try to bite off more than they can chew?

I read this as Hollywood-speak for "I lost the audition".

With that in mind, I'm taking myself out of the running also.

Thank You Jesus!

Darn, what a shame. Although this could present an opportunity for Screech...

Well thank goodness for that news. Although I'm sure he's a probably a good guy, that was the most out-of-leftfield candidate on the list. So, Lopez said he would have "made the show hip"? I would have loved to have heard his ideas to make it more "hip." Guess he thinks he's got a brain trust of ideas that TPiR staffers should be absolutely dying to hear. That's such a dorky thing to say. Using the word "hip" (at his age or any age for that matter) automatically disqualifies the person as ever obtaining the status of what one thinks of as "hip." For that reason: Mario Lopez is so not "hip."

Sounds like the CW didn't pick up the pilot he was starring in either.
/But I did hear that Dustin "Screech" Diamond will work cheap.
//Just needs enough of a salary to save his house & posessions in Wisconsin!

I heard he did quite well, but it was felt he wouldn't stay with the show (ie: move on to better things) if he got the gig.

Better things? Like what? "The Tonight Show?" "The CBS Evening News?" Do they think Angie Jolie is going to watch TPIR before trotting the kids to day care and think, "that host is something. We should make a film!"
And do they need the next guy to stay 35 years, too?

Well, I didn't get into too much discussion, but I think the train of thought is he'd treat it just like another gig. And he would want to move on to something else whenever the opportunity comes up. Let's face it, the last thing they would want is a new host who is itching to move on to other things. (especially during this transition)
