Title: "The <Game Show Host> Story"
Post by: TimK2003 on May 20, 2007, 11:25:20 PM
After watching Quiz Show over the weekend...

You were selected to be the casting director for a movie which chronicled the life of a famous game show host...

Who, out of today's stable of actors, could play the part of these famous hosts of the past when they were in their prime?

With "Quiz Show", we saw that Christopher McDonald could do a decent Jack Barry. Who could be the spitting image (with a little help from the make-up department) of John Charles Daly, Bob Barker, Dick Clark, Bill Cullen, etc...???

Perhaps Jim Carey as Gene Rayburn???

I always thought Drew Carey could portray a 50s-era Bill Cullen, but would have to drop some pounds.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Michael J. Fox as Pat Sajak!

That guy who played the boring teacher in "Ferris Bueller" as Ben Stein? Oh, wait...
George Clooney could play his dad Nick...
Vin Diesel as Howie Mandel?

David Strathairn was so good as Edward R. Murrow in "Good Night and Good Luck" that I believe he would make an excellet John Charles Daly. He just has to get that brogue down.

Russell Crowe as Dick Clark (He did a good job of playing John Nash as sympathetic but not always nice.)
Harry Anderson as Bill Cullen (I think he could match Uncle Bill's delivery based on how he joked from the bench.)

As someone on this board once said, and I'm paraphrasing:  If you want to get a movie made today about game show hosts, it will have to star Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller!

Now that I see that, I have a question...who was going to play Tomarken in that movie where Bill Murray was Michael Larson?

If I'm not mistaken........ Peter Tomarken. And Rod Roddy would have been played by Frank Caliendo (http://\"http://youtube.com/watch?v=1_PSlF7s6Mo\").

I've always thought Jerry (in the Seinfeld episode, "The Barber") was a dead ringer for Tomarken circa 1983.

How about John Laroquette as John Charles Daly?  He's got the stature, the delivery and I think he could pull it off.

Tom Hanks might make a good Cullen.  He's one of the most versatile actors there is.

Drew Carey might make a good Joe Garagola

Gotta go with Dana Carvey as Regis Philbin. Put a red beard on me, and maybe I could play Doug Van Gundy (:)).
