I'm wondering if anyone else out there caught last night's "How I Met Your Mother", which featured Neil Patrick Harris meeting his "dad", Bob Barker.
The episode was fantastic, although the TPiR content with Bob and the show felt a bit rushed to me. Still, I was howling the whole episode. Everyone counting down the "beep"s of the Big Wheel had my whole household in stitches.
One question: Why the cheap-o imitation TPiR music for the bumpers during the game?
-
Probably so Score doesn't get royalties/force them to re-edit for syndication.

I thought it was OK, although at times he was bordering on fanboish levels. Found it a little bit annoying when they were constantly changing between HD & SD, but what can you do?

I think that was probably the point.

It's because the stuff on the Price set was shot with Studio 33 equipment...

I was a little upset that there wasn't more sceneage regarding Barney's TPIR Appearance. But at least, it didn't go down the familiar sitcom plot road of "Character Gets On Show, Character Has An Easy Chance To Win It All, Character Loses It All." I was almost certain that Barney was going to choke at the end.
At least his character did some things we all wanted to see on the Price Is Right.
I also saw the promo for Bob's 2 nights of specials during HIMYM. Anybody placing their bets that the Special Guest on the 50th anniversary show will be his named successor?

You do realize that it was a sitcom, and not a Price episode, right?
-
That couldn't have been a real episode. Bob would have made a bigger deal about hitting the showcase exactly right, which IIRC only happened once in the 35 years the current version of Price has been on the air. Besides , since when does a contestant know in advance that he's going to be on the show?
Too many factual errors. Not worth watching over again. I give it 6000 stars.

from alexmarsz over on TWoP, and I can't believe someone over there tried this before someone here:
They show the winner's total on his podium at the end. For Barney they showed $37,697. But we know he won:
1350 (watches) + 500 (guessing exact) + unknown (camcorder) + 999 (computer) + 1000 (game bonus) + 1000 (first spin) + 18421 (his showcase) + 14628 (second showcase) = $37,898
So not only did he not win on the second spin, that camcorder was worth negative $201. I demand a DVD commentary explanation! ;-)
-
I did catch that last night -- when they taped the segments in the studio, Bob did give Barney the $500. If you take out the $500 bonus which we never saw awarded, then the camcorder was $299, which sounds like a price, albeit a low one.

(I could point out that the camcorder we saw Barney give as a wedding present would have retailed for more than $299, but that would be too geeky.)

Winnars both.

I thought that was an older-fashioned camcorder, which I didn't even know they still made.
You knew there were going to be inconsistencies. I'm actually a little surprised that the final total was more than the combined Showcase prices.
I actually thought the first half of the show was better. The second half was good, but the first was better.
-
Ya know...over at the How I Met Your Blog, they had a clip of this show...and had a completely different edit. There was no taking between Barney and Bob before the spin, and the $1,000 graphic didn't exist.
This is one episode I want to see in a director's cut on a DVD.
Also...did they even award a $1,000 bonus? If they didn't...then the camcorder would be a higher price.
EDIT: If this pulls really high ratings, I could see an NBC sitcom star on DoND. Dwight Schrute would be my pick.

I won't say who it is because that may be considered a spoiler, but it will not be his successor. Considering the hype, I can see it being a disappointment.

Better than that...have a phone contest with the 3 winners. Whom ever wins is the new host.

DOND and LAS VEGAS already did a crossover segment.. "Delinda" (Molly Sims) came on the set to get Howie to take him to the Montecito (with the current contestants still on stage immediately after the show)
-
I'm pretty sure they named said guest in one of the earliest press releases for the special.

Um....Yhahhh!!!
I just thought they would have expounded on the TPIR subplot a little more when Barney was at the studio -- a scene where Barney was hitting on one of Barker's Beautys would have been a natural!
/"Dad, may I go out with one of your Beauties?".
//"You mean my Dad already spent time with you? Ewww!"
-
*sigh.* Why do I bother.

I haven't seen the show, but is "Barney" a nickname?

Hmmm..... well that rules out Rosie O'Donnell, she's never a disappointment.

Honestly, I'm surprised there wasn't a little more. The way they were milking this whole TPiR crossover to mega extremes (commercials in pretty much every CBS show, Neil plugging the 15 seconds thing...) that I was kinda expecting the entire storyline to follow his ploy to meet Bob.
That said, I was really happy on how the episode did turn out...it flowed really well.
-
From the bits and pieces I saw on YouTube, I thought it was great. Bob was just being Bob and Neil was hilarious.
Favorite Part: Barney complaining about one of the Showcases. I basically say the same thing every time I see the Showcases.

/no, of course you don't.

After seeing some of the comments, and seeing the episode, I think some of you are taking this episode WAY too seriously. You do realize that the writers are writing for a general audience, and not the rabid fans?

No, they really don't. That's a big part of the problem.
