Title: Late Late Show 3/16..VCR/DVR Alert
Post by: TimK2003 on March 12, 2007, 11:23:59 AM
EDIT:  Date in the Thread Title was miskeyed...Corrected date below:

Merv Griffin will be a guest on next Monday's (3/19) Late Late Show w/ Craig Ferguson.

More than likely, "Crosswords" will be a hot topic that night, or at least the concept will be discussed.

I'll be shocked if it's even mentioned.

I'm gonna Tivo this, just because I want to be the first one to do the Nelson Muntz "HA-ha!" when Crosswords doesn't get mentioned.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect Crosswords to be mentioned, or if it is, it'll be for a few seconds.  I'm working on the show and there are way way too many sketchy details to iron out (beyond the basic idea that you play the game off a Crossword puzzle and the overly-stressed in all press releases format of a round-structure) to have a long discussion out of it.

FYI, at last check, it doesn't have a host picked or city to tape in or much of anything beyond some form of a gameplay.  It's rumored to be Chicago and with how much it's been talked about I'm almost ready to get a plane ticket to Chicago this summer, but it's not official yet.  It's still relatively early, and more news should come out in the upcoming weeks.

I wouldn't mind that one bit. Hope he'll bring his trumpet.

Thank you! Coming from you that means so much. :)

Believe me, chief, to "hate" would require far more of an emotional investment that I can be bothered to make over something so trivial as this. But, just for you, I'll recap the thread:

Tim: "Ooooh, Merv's gonna be on Ferguson. He's TOTALLY gonna talk about Crosswords!
Me: "There is no way in nine blue hells he's gonna talk about Crosswords."
Toddyo: "Yay! I can't wait to hear him talk about Crosswords!"

I realize that just because I say it doesn't make it so, but still, forgive me if I'm gonna roll my eyes a little bit. So I'm gonna Tivo the show because I'm interested in seeing if I got it right, and even more interested to see, if I _am_ right, if people come back here the next day saying "WAAAAH! Why didn't he talk about Crosswords!"

And if I'm wrong, well, I'll be happy to bone up on new preparations of crow. But I'm suspecting I won't be wrong.

He doesn't hate us, and if you don't stop taking every single one of his posts so personally, you're going to make yourself physically ill.

Why would Merv be on the show anyway?  Is he there to talk about how he may be uncle to Anna Nicole Smiff's baby?

Spike (http://\"http://www.amazon.com/Spike-All-Purpose-Seasoning-oz/dp/B0004LZD4I\") is my seasoning of choice.  My guess is you'll need it.
Probably just as an afterthought, but I'm betting Crosswords gets a mention.

While we're mentioning "Crosswords," yesterday's NY Times reported in an article about CBS stations' lead-in problems contributing to Katie Couric's ratings problems (strange, considering that most CBS-owned stations have Dr. Phil as their local news lead-in in the afternoon) that WNBC in New York is going to make "Crosswords" their local news lead-in this fall at 4 p.m., with Ellen being moved elsewhere.  Interesting.

I don't understand why they can't find another spot for "Crosswords" in New York. The 4 PM slot isn't really the best for them right now (considering the two ratings powers in that slot, Oprah and Judge Judy). But then again, there really isn't much space on the NBC 4 sched for the show...unless they swing it to where they move one of the entertainment news shows out of their 7 PM hour slots (fat chance of that happening).

I think we're getting to the point that there can be one show per genre in a given slot. In NYC, instead of talk vs. talk vs. court, we'll have game vs. talk vs. court.  BTW, Judy is not invincible, Oprah is however.

You don't want it in 7-8 because WOF/J would prevail in that battle.

In the battle of New York, I believe the ratings would tell you otherwise...Her Honor has been beating Oprah in the slot for quite awhile now.

Besides, as far as I can tell, whatever ends up in the 4 o'clock slot doesn't do well anyway up against the Judy/Oprah double. Re: the first seasons of syndie Link and Millionaire, WCBS' First News at 4, a few seasons of The People's Court, and currently Ellen.

True...if J! didn't kill it at 7, Wheel would at 7:30.

I wish to offer my apologies to Chris for my outburst. A lot of very stressful personal problems going on in my life right now and I guess things just boiled over.

If you guys prefer, should I remove my post?

No, because what's done is done.  You've apologized, now move on.
