The newly-rechristened ION Television (formerly i, formerly PAX) has a poll on its website. Rate the 16 shows listed on a scale from 0 to 10. The original Lingo is one of the shows, so I guess it must have access to it. I'm not sure how much this actually will influence scheduling decisions (probably not a whole lot).

There's something about the idea of rerunning a show that never paid all of their contestants their winnings that just doesn't sit well with me.
There's also the idea of giving a network a name (ION) that sounds like another former network (Eye On America) that strikes me as odd as well. As long as they don't start rerunning "Real People", I think we'll be OK.
Also nice to see that there are some shows that Nick@Nite/TV Land ignored that may see the light of day again.

Believe me, I understand, but this was also one of my favorites, and I'd love to see the original episodes again. I'm also a huge Barney Miller fan, so those were my two "10"s.
-
Also if you remember WLIG (Now WLNY) on Long Island reran Pitfall along with Bill's $25,000 Pryamid from 1985 to 1986.
-
According to the guy who does the news on Sitcoms Online (http://\"http://www.sitcomsonline.com/\"), these are the shows ION has a big interest in airing. Vote and you'll see most of them on this year, he says.

Keep dreaming, PYLW. They're not going to be coming out any time soon, if ever, due to flagging sales of the first season. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Interesting mix of shows I saw. I voted for Barney Miller too, because I really haven't seen much of that (I do remember when it used to air late Saturday nights on WWOR...caught it sometimes, didn't know what the hell was going on). Among my other choices were the original Lingo (curious as to how they ended up putting it on the list), The A-Team (because, IMHO, more A-Team is good), and Perfect Strangers.
Would rather not see Moral Court (thought that was the most idiotic show going when I saw it), but if a one-season wonder court show can still be airing in reruns after all this time...anything's possible, I suppose.

No, I knew that already. It's kind of like the situation with Night Court. A man can dream, can't he? :)
-
Was it Ralph Andrews that was behind the original season of Lingo, or was it some kind of joint entity? Maybe it opens up the possibility of showing Truth or Consequences, perhaps?
OTOH, I can see I just wanting Lingo due to its success on GSN.
-
You've got the Ralphs confused. Ralph Edwards was Mr. ToC; Ralph Andrews was the guy behind "Lingo," "Celebrity Sweepstakes," "Liar's Club," etc.

I agree, and how pathetic must your broadcast network be when you're basing programming decisions on GSN's coattails?
-
Would anyone else other than GSN be able to negotiate for the Reg Grundy library, or does GSN own those shows but just doesn't show them? That might be a neat "get" for ION.
-
"Moral Court" reran for years and years in Chicago on WCIU, in an amazing run that overlapped Larry Elder's second, ill-fated attempted at a daily syndicated series.
I'm still amazed that Paxson's hanging on to being in business despite all his company has been through.

I thought Paxson had nothing to do with ION anymore (unless you're talking about some other venture).
-
I'd seriously love to see the classic Lingo series hit the airwaves.
Considering the number of episodes that were produced, if ION schedules the show in a way to where it's not overkill, I think it would get over.

Who owns the rights to the original Lingo episodes, anyway?

It's the same company that syndicated the "Cross-Wits" revival. I forget the name but Burt Rosen, a veteran syndication guy, was involved somehow.

ABR Productions. Stood for A. Burt Rosen, from what I read. The logo for his company was just as low-budget as his shows. :-P

I can't imagine ION would go out of its way to get Lingo. It must now be owned by someone ION's got a programming deal with: CBS, Warner, NBC Universal, or Sony.

You would think that since NBC/U still has a stake in ION (or did they give that up while it was still i?), and they're looking to rerun a game from years ago, that they would just rerun Classic Concentration. NBC owns it, there are more episodes to air and thus cheaper, no?

One wonders if ION would consider pairing Lingo w/CW 86, since they were both distributed by the same outfit, and a block would make more sense in terms of keeping viewers watching.
On the non-GS front, wouldn't mind seeing The Wonder Years and Welcome Back Kotter again...the latter hasn't been seen since a brief spell on one of the now-defunct regional MSG Metro Channels several yrs ago.
Chuck Donegan (The Illustrious "Chuckie Baby")
-
Kotter aired for a short time on WB and i after on Metro, as well.
That was the only thing I ever watched on Metro, besides Knick and college basketball games.
-
Kotter aired for a short time on WB and i after on Metro, as well.
It was also briefly on TVLand earlier this decade. I think they aired it for a while in their "TVLand Kitschen", which aired at midnight on the weekends.
-
NBC U still owns a minority interest in Ion, but they haven't been actively involved in the company since they and Paxson had a little dustup a few years ago when when they chose to buy Telemundo instead of buying him out. The NBC-owned stations stopped airing repeats of their newscasts on Pax/i/Ion stations eons ago.

...it could very well be that this version of LINGO could be picked up for a song. Or maybe just the first verse. IIRC, many years back in something like B&C or Electronic Media, I saw a small box ad toward the back - maybe even in the "classified" section, reading like: Looking for inexpensive overnight programming? Then five small "spotlights" cut through the black, revealing L I N G O, then the distribuitor name and phone number. Anyone else remember that?
Oh..and I gave it a 10 also.

American Life TV airs Welcome Back, Kotter on Saturday nights. Then again, I'm probably one of the few who get American Life TV, let alone have heard of it.

Well now I'm bummed that DirecTV doesn't carry American Life TV (http://\"http://www.goodtv.com\"), which reminds me of what TV Land or even FX were at the beginning, before they could afford to start catering to a younger crowd. The lineup looks like a lot of fun for a boomer like me. This is also the sort of operation that could easily be picking up some cheap game show packages that not even GSN would bother with. Classic Hollywood Squares would be right at home there.
-
Hey, American Life even employs a former game show host (http://\"http://www.goodtv.com/programs.php?programid=AD\").

Boy, THERE'S a guy with a long, long career on the periphery of the industry. I was a big fan of his PBS show in the mid-eighties, and I'm so glad we finally have a surviving copy of Generation Gap to enjoy.
OK, one more reason I wish I got this channel.
-
I'm so glad we finally have a surviving copy of Generation Gap to enjoy.
From what we have of it in the trade curcuit, I think Generation Gap is a neat little show. Dennis hosted the first 10 or so episodes and Jack Barry took over for the last five (I'd love to see a Barry-hosted show).
Which begs a question: if this is common knowledge I'm not aware of it - why did Dennis leave Generation Gap before the run ended? I've never heard an explanation anywhere.

According to This Broadcasting & Cable link (http://\"http://broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6417913.html?display=Breaking+News\"), it looks like Paxson may finally get his wish in selling off his share of the network.

To answer, yes, American Life used to be GoodLifeTV (and Nostalgia Television and the Nostalgia Channel before that). For a channel that's never had particularly wide distribution, it's sure had longevity. Perhaps it's thanks to its current owner--the Rev. Sun Myung Moon.
