We're somewhere in 2004; I know that much. But just how far into it are we? I'd like to know so I know how long I need to wait before the final civilian week pops up. (I missed it the first time around, you see.) Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

The recent crime fighter and celebrity look-a-like weeks may place the run at February of '04.

According to this (http://\"http://www.tv.com/the-hollywood-squares/show/789/episode_guide.html?season=6&tag=season_dropdown;dropdown;5\") guide, the weekday run just aired episodes from March 22 - 26, 2004.
Of course, GSN skips around (or apparently runs the shows in production order). But it looks like we've got about 2-3 months left on the weekday run.
-
Ah good. ^^ Actually, this episode guide helps me out quite a bit; I didn't know the airdates for a few of my episodes, so this will definitely make it easier.
Thanks a bunch!

Bumping this up as we're approaching the end. Based on the episode guide, looks like the finale should air 4/24 or 5/1.
-
Quick bump of the thread--looks as though the finale will air next Monday (4/23) assuming they're going in "originally aired" order.

I didn't see today's show, but I thought GSN was airing the shows Tuesday-Monday.
Today's show should have been the Friday show of the 2nd to last week.

This week SHOULD be the finale all said and done. Tom mentioned the Staff playing week, which was the final week.
They've skipped a few weeks as far as I can tell, mainly tournament weeks.
For those of you who haven't seen them, they're hilarious! (I was there, I can attest to that!)

Dammit--they must've taped them in different order...this week they're airing the ToC week.

I think that when H2 finishes its run, GSN should replace the show on the weekdays + weekends for Peter Marshall's version because that was the better version. If they can't do that, replace it with To Tell The Truth on Weekends so there is something on weekends worth watching. Come on GSN THINK THINK!!!:):):):)

Or how about this...they leave it where it is, and you stop complaining about it.
We get you don't like the direction of the weekend blocks on the network. That doesn't give you a reason to tell GSN what they should and shouldn't do.

Exactly. People from GSN do read this board, but anyone who thinks they're going to make programming changes based on complaints here should think again. Heck, they don't do so with complaints posted to their own board.

Or how about this: no matter how much you or I might disagree with it, the guy has a right to an opinion, and a right to express it. If he said "GSN had better do this or I riot", or "I demand GSN do this", you'd have something, maybe. But "I think GSN should do this" is not a directive, it's an opinion.
Whereas "you stop complaining about it" is a directive.
So who's in the wrong here? Hint: not "game show guy".

I'm not taking back what I said, and I fail to see how what he said wasn't intended as a directive, considering his disdain for the weekend lineup.
He doesn't like it, and he has the right not to, and he has the right to say he doesn't. But if he doesn't realize that his opinion isn't going to amount to a hill of beans to GSN, then that's not my fault.

And none of that surprises me one single bit.

Y'know, I'd find it funny if GSN decided to go back to season one of HS with Hoopy Goldberger.
(Speaking of which, is that the reason GSN is airing H2 eps? Because of contractual complications or something?)

He was trying to convince GSN to do something, not ordering or demanding them. There's a difference. It's not going to make one iota of difference to GSN, and if he believed otherwise then he certainly didn't give it much thought. But that doesn't mean he's not allowed to express his view.
He doesn't like it, and he has the right not to, and he has the right to say he doesn't.
Then stop telling him not to express his opinion. And please don't bother trying to claim that that wasn't what you were doing.

To answer the question, GSN shows the most recent version of "Squares" as part of a settlement between Sony and King World over first-look rights for game show concepts. As part of the agreement, Sony got part-ownership of this version of "Squares" and agreed to air "repurposing" on GSN.
This started in the mid-90s, when KW tried to bring out the Roseanne Barr "Planet Hollywood Squares" project--Sony claimed that a reciprocal first-look deal KW made with Merv Griffin was assignable to them and that KW was doing the "Squares" revival without their consent. They succeeded in getting that "Squares" project off the air.
Obviously, everything came out for the best--the two corporations continue to cooperate on, claims read by Mark Thompson in the opening of "5th Grader" aside, America's most popular game shows--and continued to cooperate on an unsuccessful pilot project this past year.

I could be mistaken, but I read BJ's question as asking why GSN wasn't airing the earlier, Whoopi/Bruce episodes of Bergeron Squares, not why GSN wasn't airing the pre-Bergeron runs.

In today's climate the name of Whoopi's production company is offensive.

Actually, H2 is one of the very few shows in which the end airs uncrunched.

At least in the later years, when the credits ran split-screen. If they ever go back to the early years, they could squeeze back at least the first couple of seasons.
But didn't GSN squeezeback "Street Smarts," even though the credits usually included the outtakes from the street people interviews?
-
Speaking of squeezebacks, I've noticed that on some shows, mainly Lingo, 21, the original documentaries, and even Karn's Feud, GSN has inserted their own "custom" credits, against a black background. At first I thought it was just Gurin's shows, until I saw it on Feud, and realized that these (expletive deleted) don't seem to have any rhyme or reason for what they do anymore.
/slowly not liking GSN for several reasons

I know these kind of credits are the norm in today's world, but it makes me glad that most of the GSN stuff I've got came before this practise started. I always enjoyed opening and closing credit sequences - game show or otherwise - and I think it's a shame it's kind of a lost art now.
-
The one thing that gets to me about them is when they crunch a show when it is not even done. Like today Gene Rayburn was still talking to the stars when GSN of course had to crunch ahead of time. That is what makes me so ticked off.

I agree, but what I meant was that GSN inserted their own black background credits, instead of say, the families chatting and clapping at center stage.
