Title: Shokus Internet Radio Game Show
Post by: Matt Ottinger on January 25, 2007, 05:01:47 PM
The fellow at Shokus asked me to remind you that it's not too late to register for his new game show.  It's called "Anyone Can Play!" but you can only play if you've registered in advance.  (The punchline subtitle is "...but Don't Call Us, We'll Call You")

Look, even the losers get free DVDs from the Shokus catalog (http://\"http://www.shokus.com/\").  That should be reason enough to play.  Winners get cash.  Not Jeopardy cash.  Heck, not even Playmania cash.  Still, cash for playing a game from home, and the game really isn't that challenging.  Lots and lots of pretty straightforward trivia questions.

If you haven't registered already, here's the link (http://\"http://www.shokusradio.com/gameshow.html\").  They start playing in a couple of weeks, and the host is producer Ronnie Greenberg, who I hope will be telling stories between rounds.

Very nice. I've signed up. Do you have any information on the format of the game other than straightforward trivia?

I was in on the run-through with Matt...there's nothing you need to worry about, format- or strategy-wise.  Questions, answers.  Fun.

Heard from them just a little while ago, and sent a reply saying I'd be home at the appointed hour.

Actually, I just realized something.  They're probably going to use material that I wrote for them.

I'll start the bidding at one dollar.

Sorry, y'all.  Between "Poker Face" and "1 vs," I guess I just got carried away...

I'll be good.

I don't want to know the material, but I wouldn't mind knowing what the game is...

I don't think I'm giving too much away to go over the format.

Basically, it's the final round of Weakest Link, writ large.  Straight-up trivia questions, on any subject.  Nothing fancy, no wagering, no buzzing in, and no random luck, except the luck of possibly getting easier or harder questions than your opponent.  There are six contestants in the hour, who face off in pairs in three preliminary matches.  (So for all the trash talk, Clay and Tim may not even meet!)  I'm not sure how many questions each player gets in a round, but I think they settled on seven.  Also not sure how they'll handle a tiebreaker, though in one runthrough it was the player who guessed closest to the date of an event.  Each player answers his question in turn, and the one with the most right advances to the three-person final.

--all of which are easy, if you know the answers.

Thanks.  Perfect.  Exactly what I hoped to know.

In an email I just got from Shokus, I read that there will be a preview of the game on Monday at 3 PM PST.  Also during this show will be an audio replay of a "Who, What, or Where" episode.
