Doug Elfman wrote this (http://\"http://tinyurl.com/ypoz75\") in today's Bright One (no registration required). Pretty interesting read, but nothing really jumped out at me that we haven't heard before (I could've missed something, though--chime in if you feel otherwise). No comment on Elfman's "suggestions" for Barker's replacement.

Here's TV Squad's take on it... (http://\"http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/01/19/bob-barker-makes-his-valedictory-speech-tca-report/\")
Sorry, but I couldn't get past this:
After everyone came back inside the ballroom, Barker came out to a standing ovation...
Well, not exactly. But considering the fact that a fair number of the jaded and grouchy critics actually applauded, well, that's probably the TCA equivalent of a standing O. Barker noticed this:
"On The Price is Right, I get a hell of a lot more applause than that." when a few more people applauded, he said, "I usually get a standing ovation," which led me and a few others to stand up. What the hell, the guy deserves it.

What's Bob going to do come that day in June when he no longer has all this adulation to feed off of?
Can he really pull a Johnny Carson and stay out of the spotlight forever?

I can't wait to hear what Chris C. has to say about this. :)

The guy deserves it?
Someone yelling out "Did you bring a car to give away? Okay, then," maybe.

If I recall correctly from the reports, he stormed out of some luncheon or another in a huff when he discovered it wasn't all about him. Those present could put a finer point on it, I'm sure.

From this post, (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5177&st=21&p=53646&#\") Chris Clementson said:
At one point in the ceremonies Tom Kennedy turned to Barker and said "You've missed two tapings already" or words to that effect -- I have no idea what he meant by it. A few seconds later Barker rose from his chair and said, "Wait a minute, I do have a taping to go to" and left the room.

User matchgame extrapolates on that in this post. (http://\"http://gameshow.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=5177&st=28#\") Seems plausible to me.
