According to Marc Green at Golden-Road.net, Dave Price is being given a trial run as "host" of TPIR doing some shows that will not be televised.
More details at: http://www.golden-road.net/modules/newbb/v...671&forum=4 (http://\"http://www.golden-road.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=1671&forum=4\")
As I don't watch the CBS Early Show, I don't know who this Price guy is and don't really care.
FWIW, I'd rather see Marc Summers, Tom Bergeron, or Todd Newton at the helm of Price. Actually I wouldn't mind Tom Kennedy, either, but I know that's not an option.

And you missed the other important part of this...
A formal ticket announcement via cbs.com is forthcoming. More shows testing others hosts will be done at a later time, and we will pass along this information as it becomes available.
So Dave Price is not the replacement. Yet.
-
You have to admit he's on a faster track than I am.
I think were going to have to come to terms with the fact that Price is the annointed one.
-
I wouldn't go so far as to say Dave Price is the "annointed one" just yet.
It's obvious CBS wants him for the job and they're pushing hard for him. But remember one thing: it's not CBS' job to fill, it's Fremantle's.

And Fremantle is going to listen VERY CAREFULLY to CBS's wishes if they hope to continue doing business with CBS.
My forecast : Dave gets it.

I trust your vibe for this better than my own, but I have to ask: doesn't Fremantle have SOME pull here? I bet NBC or Fox would love some highly-rated daytime programming...
-
Fremantle has all editorial control. It's their property.
How says it couldn't move to another network? (Thanks for watching Today on NBC...stay tuned for another exciting episode of "The Price Is Right" next on this and many other NBC stations)
What a way to revive a genre for daytime television: competition!

Yes, but I see Matt's point, too. The question is one of the value of the show: would NBC or Fox pay when CBS is paying now? That's a vast simplification when you work in production costs, and whatever savings they're going to get on the new host's contract over Barker's, and such. But I'm wondering if there isn't enough profit to be made from a high-profile network switch that it does give Fremantle some negotiating power.

Would NBC be able to get much coverage in the event of such a switch? I'm not sure how willing the affiliates would be to give up the time slot even for TPIR.
-
Who's to say it has to be a network show?
-
A shift to some other venue would be quickly spun by CBS as "without Barker, the show is nothing" and probably the public would agree. Already, many of my "normal" friends (sorry, guys...) are asking me if the show is going to be cancelled when Barker retires. Any sort of success the show can hope to achieve will be accomplished by retaining as much sameness as possible during the transition. CBS is an important part of that.

Meanwhile, haven't we already established that Price bombed twice with a live audience in Atlantic City? Does CBS think that they'll get a different result in Studio 33?

It could have been first time jitters...could have been. What can I say, I'm always the optomist.
IMHO, If all the potential hosts get tryouts, then I don't think the die-hards will be upset. If they decided to ONLY try Dave Price, then people will be really, really pissed.

I'm under the impression that "CBS" and "thought" weren't two factors that were working together when this decision was made.

The notion that CBS would stop doing business with Fremantle and cancel TPIR because they disagreed on the TPIR emcee is laughable. That said, do I think Fremantle has the cajones to stand up to CBS? Not really.
haven't we already established that [Dave] Price bombed twice with a live audience in Atlantic City?
What is this hard-on that CBS has for Dave Price? He has no experience doing this kind of show and the above quote bears this out.

Given TPiR or Passions, if NBC decided to get TPiR and shelve the latter, you would not hear a peep out of affiliates.

It does OK -- but NBC's been in third place in daytime (save for Today) forever... once again, it might come down to ROI.
Then again, Dave Price might not get the job and this whole thread is moot.
-
There have been rumors of Dave Price helming TPiR long before Bob announced his retirement, and subsequently in the Murdoch papers.
If they were fabrications, why would Mr. Price be signed to a CBS contract, doing a couple live shows and now getting an actual tryout in 33? If this is what an agent's hype can get you, I want that agent.
As far as using cue cards, didn't Ricki use them too?
That seems to be SOP nowadays.

Actually, I didn't miss anything. For the sake of brevity, I thought posting the link to the actual story would be enough.
As for this Price person, I'm afraid that he is pre-ordained for the spot. I really, really want to be wrong on that!
-

Anyone who has acted in a high school play can memorize the language for some of the less complicated pricing games in about 10 minutes. If a guy can't do the show without cue cards, how do you expect him to be able to interact spontaneously with contestants or know what to do when a game breaks down (other than to call for a tape stop)? And how can you justify this when you've got a handful of guys who have done the live show and have the mechanics down slick? If anything sinks TPIR it will be CBS/Fremantle making an utterly boneheaded decision about the emcee who replaces Barker.
-
Before it's mentioned elsewhere as breaking news, CBS.com (http://\"http://etix.cbs.com/etix/main/mainE.jsp?date=12112006\") shows tickets available for 3 shows on Friday, December 8. Shows will be hosted by Dave Price. All past contestants are eligible and contestants who appear on these shows will be eligible for future daytime shows.
Here's (http://\"http://etix.cbs.com/etix/main/tixReq1.jsp?ind=856\")more info.
-
That's good that they're letting former contestants on. If Dave forgets the rules, the contestant can explain them to him.

Burton Richardson will be announcing the 12/22 episode of Price. Give him some credit this time. Taping had to be held up until he arrived when he was notified on such short notice. It was also his first time seeing that day's copy.
Meaning Burton was not present for rehearsal?

Rich did some of the rehearsal, then could not continue due to laryingytis. Jeff Thisted finished it. It looked like Jeff was actually going to cover for Rich on air, but Burton was called. The taping was held up until he got there (about 15-20 minutes).
When I spoke with him after the show, he said he was called while driving, went home for a quick change of clothes, then headed to the studio. He had no prior look at that day's copy. He probably glanced over it right after it was given to him which wasn't much time before show time.
My hunch says (and this is only a hunch), that they would have went with Jeff had Burton not been available on such short notice.
-
Anybody know if Bob made mention of his retirement on the first episode taped after the news?
And when do the post-announcement episodes begin airing?

That would've been interesting. While he is Price staff, the only measurable screen time he's had was when he proposed in Season 33.

It is my understanding that he did not make any mention of it on air following his public announcement.
As I also believe it has been noted, he did not even inform the studio audience on 10/31, the day he made the announcement, and even though the news had begun circulating, no one in the line knew about it.

Can't answer the first query, but the post-announcement eps should begin airing January 5.

Actually, those would be the Christmas week shows. The 2 shows after the announcement air in early January, but first ones to air will be 12/18-12/22.

You're right. I did not see that in the schedule (see, they shouldn't tape out of order like that). I'll be in the Bill Daily wing if anyone needs me.

Just to prepare the fanbois, Burton should be getting some brief camera time on 12/22.
At least that was the way it was recorded.

Regarding the 3 un-televised Dave Price tryout shows coming up:
To those who go see the show(s) and are ultimately picked, will these contestants win anything, or will they be using TPIR Live budget-level prizes?
You just know there will be a few unsuspecting people who will go through the ordeal to see the show, wind up on stage and then come to find out that they may only win a 42-inch color TV at the end of the Golden Road, for example -- despite all the verbiage on the tickets saying this will not be as big as a Barker ep.

Which is still far better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Any such contestants who are unsatisfied with their winnings should send the 42-inch tvs to me. ;)

Rumors of Dave Price have been going around for several years now. I don't know why executives insist on hiring people with no experience hosting game shows. (An exception is Howie Mandel. They went outside of the box with him, and it worked.) For something as big as TPIR, I hope they don't screw this up. Barker's repalcement is going to have big shoes to fill. If they get a person who can only read cue cards, has no spontaneity, and can't interact with the contestants, it will really kill the show. (Many have predicted the end of TPIR when Barker retires. The point is they need a good host to save the show.) I hear Patrick Wayne is available. Wouldn't he be great? Seriously, I was hoping for Todd Newton. I once read that Marc Summers always had a fantasy of Bob Barker physically handing him the microphone and having him step in as host.

That doesn't mean I can expect that to become reality.
If it does, however, I will make it my mission to get Chris Lemon hooked up with Heather Davis.

I've heard it called a lot of things, but "lotion" is a new euphemism to me.
