Title: First new Family Feud PC game pics are out...
Post by: Hastin on September 27, 2006, 10:07:16 PM
Well, the PS2 (http://\"http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=281606\") and GBA (http://\"http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=160768\") versions of Family Feud slipped to earlier next month, however the PC version (http://\"http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646682\") is coming out later this week. GameStop has just posted some of the pics (http://\"http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646682\") (scroll down, and look at the screenshots).

While I can understand that everything is based on the previous set (after all, the game went gold about when the new FF set premiered), it looks horribly ugly. No anti-aliasing on any of the shots, and the characters look blocky and not textured well. (Maybe the PS2 version will look better with the smaller resolution.) And who is that host?!

Anywho, I guess I was looking forward to a good-looking FF game to come out, but my hopes are smashed. I just hope the game play hasn't been messed with, and that the rumored online play hasn't been cut.

Let's hope they don't butcher DoND this way.

Maybe those are just shots from the Beta version of the game. (At least, I hope they are.)

But even if that's what the game looks like, I won't care if the gameplay itself is fun.

Is this for the Super Nintendo or the Sega Saturn?

Dylan Lane, of course.

Really, we're talking about a title put out by the Cheapass division of Take Two. If you expected ANYTHING less, you were aiming a lot higher than they were.

Looking at those screenshots, I am very close to laughing off parts of my anatomy. What's the point of winning $20,000 when you're forever staring into the deep abyss of nothingness?

Kinda looks like Craig Ferguson....Wait, let me take off my glasses.

At least this is better than The Price is Right PC game from 1990, right?

/I think it's for the CD-i, Mark :P

Yes, but so are 99% of the other video games on the planet. :)

I disagree. I think the graphics look good.

What were you hoping for? Actual clips / people recreated for this? Virtual Reality Family Feud with John O Hurley?

It's a Videogame for Cripes sakes.

Well, considering the previous version did have Louie Anderson (did they do one with Karn yet?) I think they were expecting a real host, yeah. I think the point is that this is quite a step back, considering the previous one.

I'm gonna guess from that statement that you don't play a lot of current videogames. The bar's set pretty high these days. Really, the only reason I'm not surprised that it totally blows is that it's being put out by Take Two's budget arm, which would have been the equivalent of a title coming out of WizardWorks when I was at Atari. Most software publishers have a division like this, with the philosophy that pumping out lots of mediocre games on a crap budget is more likely to turn a quick profit, even if they don't sell as many copies, because it's easier to recoup that meager investment.

If it were treated seriously, it could have been really good, but the second I saw "Global Star" I knew it was gonna eat ass. A lot of gamers don't know about this dirty little part of the business and don't pay attention to publishers, so they expect quality from everything.

The hint is this: when a game starts out retailing for $20, when everything around it is $30 or $40, there's your first clue.

In most cases.  When ESPN NFL 2k5 came out a couple years ago (incidentally, Global Star played some part in this effort), the game was quite good, and, IMO, miles ahead of Madden.  However, this seems to be the exception.

Of course, EA Sports then got pissy, bought an exclusive contract and now continue to churn out crap games for the NFL, PGA, and NASCAR.

On the other hand, IIRC, they are behind Mall Tycoon.  Talk about a POS...

And while you'd normally be right Chris, I think "Midway Arcade Classics" is another example of a good $20 retail game. Cheap, of course, because they're just porting a bunch of already made games to one little title. Gooooooo Rampart!

ObGS: Several games on "Midway" were featured on "Starcade."

Good points both. Yes, there are exceptions.

(incidentally, NHL '07 for the Xbox 360, from Mark's friends at EA Sports, is the best hockey game I've ever played.)

I, personally, wasn't hoping for anything, as I'm not that interested in the game. My own comments were regarding the "human" modeling. If they couldn't manage anything more realistic than that, fine--but don't leave *that* in the game. Make your humans cartoony, or don't show them at all, or something. But propping up mannequins like those, in a context where you're obviously supposed to "feel" like you're watching the actual show, is just laughable.

Indeed. Kinda reminds me of the old SNES "Wheel of Fortune Deluxe" days when you picked a 'cardboard' character to represent yourself.

Oh, and the release date has slipped again (this time to 10/4). I bet it ends up coming out the same day as the PS2 and GBA versions (which should be 10/10).

I don't think Wheel looked too bad on the SNES. At least the contestants had a decent amount of movement and animation. The N64 version was a different story; the contestants were far more static. They didn't move until you won a puzzle, and even then the animation only lasted a half-second before cutting back to the puzzleboard.

Aren't graphics supposed to get better as time goes on? :)

At least the N64 had the most realisting looking (and physics) of any wheel in any WoF computer game. Artech's (PC after Gametek, PS1, and PS2) wheels stopped to quickly. So did most early GameTek ones.

N64 wheel is probably my favorite wheel game on any platform. Aside from the contestants, the graphics are decent, but the gameplay is what sets it apart. The game simply moves, it doesn't pause to tell you that you've spun $200, it doesn't stop to tell you there are 3 "R's", etc. All of these thing are obvious and just get in the way, IMHO.

Walmart had the PC version Friday night in their electronics department.  I didn't buy it, but just glanced at it, and the graphics weren't the greatest, but not bad, IMO!

Wow! I'll have to check mine. I know that GameStop isn't getting it until
Thursday. Thanks for letting us know. (Yea! 30 posts!)
