Title: The invasion has begun!

WB11/WPIX, Tribune Broadcasting's New York WB affiliate will premiere text2win, an original, live interactive TV game show on August 7 – the first for New York viewers to try their hands at winning cash prizes using mobile phones or computers. The show is produced by 3CirclesMedia and the hour-long show will air nightly through August 13 at 2a.

You just knew it was going to happen...especially with GSN announcing how much money they're making from Playmania.

I saw a trial run for this show on a satellite feed.

It was clearly for the WB station because she mentioned it, and was produced by a dutch company because the American host spoke fluent Dutch to her producers.

http://i5.tinypic.com/23l1mj4.jpg (http://\"http://i5.tinypic.com/23l1mj4.jpg\") I found it unusal so I capped it for some reason.

Almost sure thing--we're getting a full-time call-in-and-lose channel on cable/satellite within the next six months.  With the offer of shared revenues, the big MSOs, DirecTV and Dish will put it on faster than you can say "QVC."

Yay, and GSN put out a PR yesterday (http://\"http://prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=ind_focus.story&STORY=/www/story/08-04-2006/0004410521&EDATE=FRI+Aug+04+2006,+02:00+PM\") saying they're adding another night to Playmania.   Yeesh.

Hey, good on them.  For once, GSN was ahead of a trend rather than responding (usually way too late) to one.  If it's working for them, and the late-night alternative is yet another rerun or infomercials, I say go for it!

Hmmm--the press release indicates PLAYMANIA airs from 1AM-3AM ET, 10PM-12M PT.  Isn't that not the case, from several posts on this board (in other words, West Coasters don't get the show live)?

Wait.  If that (in the press release) is the case, then they're getting the exact same show at the exact same time as in the East.

Right--but we've had posts on this board indicating otherwise:

[quote name=\'melman1\' post=\'123167\' date=\'Jul 3 2006, 09:06 AM\']
And on the Western feed, it's aired tape-delayed.  So the only possible motivation for watching it, the lame call-in-and-play part of it, isn't even there.

But this rebegs the question: does GSN have a West Coast feed? I'm pretty sure I get PlayMania in the 10P-midnight slot, those few times I've seen it. I'm just not sure melman's right.

Judging from tvguide.com, they do.  I looked at listings from two cable providers--one in Los Angeles (Time-Warner) and one in Seattle (Comcast).  Both show PLAYMANIA airing at 1AM PT (if it was one feed for both East and West Coast--PLAYMANIA would air at 10PM).

I don't live on the West Coast--so I can't gauge the accuracy.

Well, there you go. I thought I remembered seeing it earlier. Of course, I could also check my Tivo guide, and right now I shall do so:

<pause>

Well, now, see, here we are: My Tivo schedule for Thursday 8/10 shows PlayMania from 10:00P to midnight, and Paid Programming from 1:00a on. Ditto last Thursday and Friday nights.

So I'm thinking I might be right here.

You might both be right.  Assuming you get GSN from cable, you might have a cable provider who gives you the East Coast feed.  That would mean that MG75, IGAS and WWTBAM should precede PLAYMANIA starting at 8PM PT.  Is that the case?

Not unheard of to get the feed opposite from the one you theoretically should get.  I have digital cable, but I get the West Coast feed of Sundance rather than the East Coast feed.

(12:30 AM PT).  (Funny thing; our interactive guide has the right information, but when the TV Guide Channel shows listings for GSN, it uses the West Coast feed schedule.)

Esoteric Eric... I was planning to spend Seattle's annual Afternoon of the Loud Planes (Blue Angels) here in the Forum, anyway; my next post will be a three-years-overdue profile in "Let's Meet Our Players!", where I hope to add up just how many times I've mentioned that Comcast Seattle takes the GSN East feed.  I'm setting the over-under at 5 1/2. Ah, the wonders of digital cable.

I wonder why in cases like that, the companies don't try to synch the feed up with the correct time.

(And if melman turns out to be wrong, I'll ship the crow to his house. BTW, that quote of mine in your sig, Melman, was intended as an insult, not a compliment.)

That's the case, indeed. You had mentioned that you'd looked at Comcast's Seattle listings, though, and I'm a Comcast customer, so I thought I would check and see what my own experience is, that's all.

No, not at all. I was merely pondering, because I don't get a West Coast feed and I am most certainly West Coast (and in a Top 20 market to boot) whether a discrete West Coast feed even existed.

Because in this case, it's actually for the better than they do it like that. We "get" to see PlayMania live, and as for the rest of it, who really cares what time it's on?

I think it's safe to believe that most if not all television stations have multiple feeds.  Ever watch a football game on CBS where the plug 60 Minutes "coming up next except on the West Coast"?

Even if the lineups are aired simultaneously in all four time zones, there's probably a way to break things up.

The major networks, yes. In the world of cable television, that's not a safe belief at all. Not even close.

Notice, for example, that there are several cable networks with original prime-time programming that like to advertise airtimes as, for instance, "8 PM Eastern, 9 PM Pacific". This is another way of saying "we have one feed, but we'll rerun the premiere at midnight on the east coast".

It seems as though only the east coast feed of GSN is on Headend in the Sky (where, if you have digital and GSN's on channel 161, is where the system is receiving the channel).

Considering that there are several digital channels that Comcast is not getting from HITS now (and some, like Current, where they're getting from both HITS and another source), it seems to me that GSN would want to pressure Comcast to start taking west coast feeds on their digital systems ASAP.

And FOX is now getting into the act, with a new 2 hour (commercial-free) show debuting in December on the News Corp-owned My Network affiliates. There will be separate East/West coast shows, airing 1-3pm ET/12-2pm CT (I assume similar times out west).

Both "Fashion House" and "Desire" are 13weekandout dramas...They've already been completely shot, edited, and are ready to roll.

Now, if either one is successful (and boy is that a big 'if'), they'll 'spinoff' some of the characters and give them a new show to be part of .... but FH and D won't be on come January in their current form.

And "Desire" actually got a favorable review from the Chicago Sun-Times' TV critic today:
