Title: Late Addition -- DoND 5/31 @ 9 PM
Post by: Mr. Bill on May 30, 2006, 12:36:50 AM
The NBC programming monkeys are at it again.  Tonight (Monday) they announced another episode of Deal or No Deal for Wednesday at a special 9 PM timeslot.  (At least they chose not to throw it against GSM!)  Said 8 PM slot will be yet another Internet Predator Dateline special.

Now for the big question.  DoND is pre-empting a scheduled movie and I didn't hear anything about an L&O rerun for 10 PM, so is this going to be a 1- or 2-hour special?  It must be a late add since just 2 weeks ago the network announced Mondays only for the rest of the season through June 5th $5M Special (with Celine Dion via satellite).

Anybody got further info?  TIA.

My DVR alerted me that originally NBC scheduled two L&O repeats for Wednesday.  Now it's DoND and one repeat.

Makes logical sense to me in putting DoND at the 9 PM slot on Wednesday.  A few weeks ago, I was debating whether to tape it or not while watching GSM at 8 that night.  Now, I can switch over very easily.

My thought is that NBC wants to "test" the 9 PM slot with a 60-minute show(even though they now moved it to 9 PM on Thursdays for the fall) just to see how good the ratings will be.  I'm pretty sure it'll do well with the other networks basically in summer rerun mode at that slot anyway.

New ep or rerun (I didn't see the promo)?

According to my TiVo programming guide, it's a repeat.

Per TVguide.com, it is a rerun.
I'm not so sure I wouldn't have run it against GSM though...or is that tieslot "established" for Dateline?

It seems to me that since January, yes.  In the fall, the two sitcoms "20 Good Years" and "30 Rock" (or "Tina Fey's 'SNL' Roman a Clef") will air in that slot, with "Biggest Loser 3" at 9, a flip-flop from the upfront announcement.  "Dateline" will be down to Saturdays as of the fall.

It all seems to me like a last-minute attempt by NBC to head "So You Think You Can Dance" off at the pass.  The premiere Thursday night took the time slot for Fox and they're hoping that just dangling "DOND" out there will grab viewers without them even checking to see if it's a repeat or not.

And although it may be elsewhere here, the finale next Monday is now 90 minutes, with the finale of "Apprentice 5" at 9:30--it's yooge.
