Title: TPIR Disclaimer 5/29
Post by: Terry K on May 29, 2006, 04:35:04 PM
Today's TPIR launched with a disclaimer put on by a Senator from Louisiana.  She told us that a trip to NOLA was offered and the shows were taped prior to Katrina.  (The disclaimer was very tasteful, in my opinion, btw)

This begs a question:  In the case of this show, normally the contestants do not get their prizes until the show actually airs.  Now, in the case of winning a car, what happens in this case when the model years have changed, eg, the 2007 model year is more or less in production.  Does the contestant get the 2007 model, or do they find them a 2006 model?

I kind of felt like the disclaimer was unnecessary.   I can't remember that far back, but Price is known to regularly offer trips to New York and D.C.... did they shuffle episodes around or air a disclaimer after 9-11?  The average viewer wouldn't have even known this episode was being aired out of order I don't think...

I'm 90% sure they would get the 2006 model.

Although an old GS disclaimer read (IIRC):

"The make and model of the car may change due to availability".

As I said during the week of Katrina, CBS aired a rerun of TPIR in which a trip to New Orleans and a speedboat were Showcase prizes.

When CBS found out, they pulled it (and substituted another episode for the West Coast).

I can understand why they had the disclaimer.

And, since it matters to some, there were no condensed credits on today's show.

One of the contestants from the September 27 episode (which was also delayed) came on Golden-Road and told us that she received her prizes way back in September or October.  I would assume the same holds for this episode's contestants; if it does, the rest of the question is moot.

There were a bunch of episodes shuffled around, but the only one that was rescheduled specifically because it might have somehow been considered insensitive to the victims was the October 8 show, which offered a trip to D.C....and even that seems to have been more because it was in a showcase about shapes that clearly referenced the Pentagon than because of the trip itself.  It was only delayed to November 26, and it aired without any kind of disclaimer.

Now, far be it from me to defend Henke, but there actually is something of a valid point in that mess of a post (although I sorta doubt he accomplished that intentionally).  CBS apparently got a whole shitload of complaints from viewers after that rerun aired, and as a result, they've been extremely cautious about these two shows with New Orleans trips -- probably somewhat moreso than was actually necessary.

Someone at CBS posted it on rec.arts.tv the day that the New Orleans/speedboat episode was rerun and apologized for airing it.

Idiot he may be, I'd pay money to see him, Stooge, and Witch on Chain Reaction...only so I have something to laugh at for years to come.

You can only have three people on a "Chain Reaction" team.  Who do you want to have Iris replace?

A better question is do you want Iris participating on a word game?  Suddenly your half hour game turns into a miniseries.
