So, I looked at the story, and it's more of a non-story. The guy tried to get out of work for six weeks and got busted. Y'know, with a million bucks I'm sure he's really worried about pulling down $3,000 a month.

Just an excuse to do a "look at the stupid reality show winner!" riff.  Granted, some of it may be justified, but not this.
