I'm usually pretty good at this but this one's got me stumped.
What was the make and model of the handheld microphone used on Child's Play?

I wish I could find one on the web. It was seen in a clip which ran in prime time about two or three weeks ago on a funniest-moments show. Bill is interviewing a young fellow with it. It looked similar to a Shure SM-63 but without the curvy profile. Of course I could be suffering from middle-age dementia and it could actually have been an SM-63.

I swear, I'm such a geek.
It was an EV DO-56. (http://\"http://i17.ebayimg.com/03/i/06/78/9d/00_1.JPG\") Pretty darn obscure thing.

That's the one! Nice call!
Here is a data sheet for the DO-56 and the RE-18:

It looks like these both have pretty sophisticated internal shock mounting. It's a shame they're not made any more; I suspect E-V dropped them after one production run. The RE-18 was used for a while on Family Feud. I still see it in use regularly by the Washington press corps. For whatever reason the DO-56 never supplanted the ubiquitous RE-50, which is still in production (but only comes in black).

Chief-o, that's a familiar microphone to the Philly market...FOX 29 throughout the 80s and into...sheesh...prolly 2000 used that mic almost exclusively for field reports.
