(Sorry, I didn't write this down verbatim.) They say something close to, "It's a good game show, even without the bells and whistles." They show footage of the show with some game show sound effects thrown in. I love the fact that the first effect is the clock from Pyramid.
-
I saw this for the first time last week when Dawson Feud went to the first break. I heard the Pyramid Clock, I think I heard THE Losing Horns, and some buzzers, and an arcade wheel sound (If you go to Dave & Busters, it is basically the sound you hear when the light goes around that huge (and addicting) Spin-N-Win! game.)
When I heard the announcer say it is "a great game show without the bells and whistles," I wanted to break my television, cancel my extra package for this channel, and just walk out my house. However, I just walked out for a moment, thinking, "Why GSN? WHY?" I could a long time with this subject; but not now.
I do plan do do a video with this promo to show what GSN is doing now.
That channel ain't right.
-
^ I won't be able to break my television, because I canceled my GSN subscription before I moved out.
-
I was gonna break my television, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

If your current gig doesn't work out you could at least become a guard.
/Not surprised to see where the wargarbl is coming from.

Is nothing safe from these arrows?

It is wrong.
Reality TV is NOT welcome to GSN. Never has been. Never will be. There's no excuse to defend GSN's decision to acquire this show.
They had a good thing going, and it was ruined forever in 2009-2010. Dropping GSN was one of the best things I ever did. I've been much happier than ever before.
Doesn't help that Reality TV is all a lie. It is NOT really real.

I assure you, if the profit margin on it is greater than what they were making with whatever was in the slot before it, there is ABSOLUTELY an "excuse to defend" that decision.
You apparently chose to vote with your wallet, which is absolutely what you should do.
-
I regret reading the post before Chris's. Holy moly.

Dropping GSN was one of the best things I ever did.
Does this mean you gave GSN a cease to exist order?

Okay, who took a whiz in gameshowlover's orange juice?
-
Here's a question pointed at GSL87: You know in your heart of hearts that there's a sure-fire money winner for your company. In order to make the sure-fire product work you kinda have to shift what your company does or sells, or something. Do you take the no-question-about-it profit that's coming to you, or cling to your principles and outdated branding just because?
-
Okay, who took a whiz in gameshowlover's orange juice?
Oh, that was me.
/was that wrong?
//should I not have done that?

I pick neither.
-
I pick neither.
Of course you do.
Please don't ever run a business or balance your checkbook or invest in the stock market. Leave that to other people.
-
I pick neither.
Seeing as that was pretty clearly a binary question, I'm curious to hear this option "C" that only you seem to know about.
Or was that simply refusing to answer the question, since by doing so you either contradict yourself or you point out what an asinine statement your original comment was?

In short, I'd quit.

In short, I'd quit.
Why am I reminded suddenly of Paul Giamatti at the end of Private Parts?
-
In short, I'd quit.
I hear ya. Making business decisions is hard.
Criticizing the business decisions you don't have the sack to make yourself, however, is apparently easy.

Not meaning to pile on any more than he already has been (and at the risk of killing the momentum)...but strike Paul Giamatti in Private Parts. I'm reminded more of Bartleby in this case.

Doesn't help that Reality TV is all a lie. It is NOT really real.
Reality Shows are the work of the Illuminati. This is fact.
My acquaintance at the local bowling alley said so.

Well, yeah, but the moment's passed now.

I pick neither.
That's why you don't run GSN.
As crappy as it is that GSN is banking on DWTminorcelebrities, if they thought it would turn a mass-market profit, then there's no question that's what they should do. GSN is not our church or our museum, it's a for-profit business catering to a demographic that is not us. It is sad, but it is true.
If you don't like it, then you're free to raise a couple million dollars to start your own television station and run it the way you'd like.
-
I don't agree with GSN, but I can't help but tune in once a while. I think that it will never be as good as the true niche channel it started out as, but tastes change and it should be known by now that I nor any of the current detractors are what GSN cares about (as they shouldn't). America rules television now and if Dancing with the Stars reruns is what they want, then by golly they want it.
As for this promo, there is nothing wrong with it. They are using simple advertising technique to gain more viewers. I heard lying was the new black.
/DWTS with GSN Interactive would be so awesome.
//On second thought, maybe not.
-
Is Ralph Macchio today's Dick Gautier? I think not. The retorts of Len and Bruno are nowhere near Brett and CNR. What's next for GSN? Dog shows? America's Funniest Videos? For a company that owns rights to incredible library collections, why aren't they using them?
-

Last I knew, which was 2010 or so, they only have rights to single seasons of CS, FF, and MG. They have to pay for Sony product and have had to for at least five years, maybe closer to eight or nine. They no longer have unfettered access to the incredible library you speak of.

The level of melodrama I'm seeing regarding this programming decision is really making me sad.

I promise this will make sense eventually: did anybody around my age play a game called The Market Place on the Apple II at school? It was a rudimentary economics/business simulator and the colors were black and shades of green. Looking back at the thread, I see three-ish people who could use some quality time playing it.

At first, I was going to say if DWTS had a game show host emceeing the show, I may watch it. But then I recalled that a (former) host, Tom Bergeron, does that gig. Maybe if DWTS got some eggcrate numbers, and ACTUALLY had some "bells and whistles," then I may consider watching at least a few minutes of it.
(Un)Fortunately, when I noticed some of the players for the upcoming season, I may consider watching some of that season.

Huh? No matter how many trappings you want, it is a dance contest. Watch because you want to see if Urkel is klutzy in real life. Or don't, because you don't enjoy dancing. But don't make it what it isn't.

I have a feeling Mr. whammy_2000 was being quite sarcastic with what he said.

I wouldn't rule that out. They did give us a cat show in 2007.

Hell, I'm surprised they didn't make a push for Westminster.

They actually had some sort of Dog show last year. I think it was Dog Star Superstars, or something like that.

Has GSN ever had a live show, other than home audience participation ones? (One of the things that makes the Westminster show a big deal is, it airs live in most of the country.)

I understand you said "other than home audience participation", but I still think it's important to point out, especially to latecomers, that great big swaths of GSN were live in the early years. Not just the dinky audience-participation shows like Decades either, but the interstitial talk shows and even their abortive efforts at full-length shows like Throut & Neck and, god help us, Trivia Track.
Was the California gubernatorial special done live?

IIRC, the show was filmed, but they had a one-hour "postwrap" show that was in fact live.
-
The finale of American Dream Derby was live, and GSN was lucky enough to pick a night where it was pouring rain. Not sure why I remember that dreck, but I do.

That was a great comedy of errors.

That was a terrible show. A revival of "Let's Go to the Races" would have been better.

Trivia Track got the "god help us?" Having only recently seen my first full episode of Throut & Neck, I think those should be reversed. Did I miss a joke?
