Title: Puzzles rejected by Wheel of Fortune
Post by: chrisholland03 on November 07, 2009, 12:34:22 PM
This thread is exactly as it sounds...ideas for puzzles rejected by Wheel of Fortune

Someone earlier mentioned 'Taking a Dump' -- Event

I'll add to the list the following:

'Brooke and Panty Shields' -- Same Name

'James, Charlie and Doo Doo Brown' -- Same Name

'Hiring A Prostitute' -- Event

Any other ideas?

"Fluffer" - Person

"Shoving a Single in a Strippers G-String" - Event

"Sanitary Napkin Holder" - Before and After  (or Clue)

"Se7en" - Title (they can call numbers, right?)

"Behind the Green Door" - Title (even mentioned by Richard on an ep. of Match Game)
"Shit Happens" - Phrase
The irrefutable, indisputable fact is… psssh, it happens.

Actually, "Hiring a Prostitute", "Shoving a Single in a Strippers G-String" and "Taking a Dump" would be categorized as "What Are You Doing?".

As for Se7en, Pat has said you could call anything if you landed on Free Play, you'd call anything. I see no reason not to call a 7. Or an ñ. Or a glottal stop.

In all seriousness, pertaining to the thread:

Same Name: DIVORCE & ROLLING PAPERS

Things: BIG TITS. They were one letter off (http://\"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIGnwxtPzo8&feature=related\") in the Puzzler era.

Thing: ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM

/Wait, I thought it was more of an ideological stance than a disease?

That reminds me of the time that the puzzle was PIANO RECITAL. Of course, the E and the A were bought before the I.

Also, I believe "jackass" and "asshole" are both one word. But you never know; Wheel, for some odd reason, considers "keychain" and "milkshake" two words, and they have broken up one-word terms for Same Name (TINKER & TACO BELL).

As for Grand Theft Auto as a puzzle, Toetyper could be referring to the crime or the video game. If the latter, then yeah — Wheel tries to stay a family show, so I would definitely say that they don't want to be referring to a game that's probably one step beyond even the M rating. It'd be like if they had, say, "Conker's Bad Fur Day" as a puzzle back in '01 (although that game was nowhere near as famous, it certainly pushed the envelope for even an M).

Speaking of violence among cartoon animals, I don't see HAPPY TREE FRIENDS as a puzzle in the near future either.

Not working for me; the link or Mr. 'ton's post.  If the ESRB gave it a M rating, then it's a M rating.  What's the whole "one step beyond?"  The "TwoGirlsOneCupofHotCoffee" mode in the next game?

Sadly, some of these seem more likely than
JEAN-PAUL SARTRE (person)
EID (event)
ISAAC NEWTON'S LAWS OF THERMODYNAMICS (things or title)
ATLAS SHRUGGED (title)
TBILISI or even SRI LANKA (on the map) (At least the latter is solvable as a bonus puzzle.)

Titles in the original spirit of the thread:
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST
DEBBIE DOES DALLAS
WHERE THE BOYS AREN'T (For my money, this is one of the cleverer adult film rip-off titles.)
SPERMS OF ENDEARMENT
MEIN KAMPF
THE SATANIC VERSES
SICKO (though it's not inconceivable that they'd use it as just PERSON)

It's also not inconceivable to me that they'd have THE KORAN as a thing, but I doubt (and simulataneously wish) they'd put it up as THE QU'RAN.

Things:
DI_DO
VI__ATO_
C_ND_M

Thing/Event: E_E_A (I can imagine an embarassed contestant guessing this if the actual puzzle were ENEMY.)

Names:
YASIR ARAFAT
POL POT
COLONEL MUAMMAR QADDAFI
JOSEF MENGELE
DOCTOR JACK KEVORKIAN
CHUCK WOOLERY

Twentington: I always wanted a captain on Family Feud to say, "I brought my beautiful daughter Emily, my ugly daughter ..."

That could've easily been a Slang bonus puzzle back in the early '90s. They loved really short bonus puzzles back then (would you believe WAX, WIG and ZOO all in the same month?).

I was working on this as a sketch. It's said we're supposed to leave our personal problems at the office door. Well, a Wheel Of Fortune writer arrives at the office one day to see a sheriff with papers, and that day's series of puzzles go...

"I'VE JUST BEEN SERVED"

"MY WIFE AND THE POOL BOY."

"MOTHER WAS RIGHT ABOUT YOU."

"I'M NOT THE FATHER??"

"SH*T, JUDGE! HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I MAKE?"

Pat: I'm beginning to detect a theme here....

"YOU CAN SLEEP WITH MY WIFE FOR A QUARTER."

and the end game:

"F*** YOU, BITCH!"

Now that's having a bad day....

I can't answer, but I can speculate:
i. In the main game, probably not, because I don't think they'd want to say, "We're out of vowels," when the puzzle has just started.
ii. In the bonus puzzle, I could easily see having a puzzle where the only vowel sound comes from a Y:
_RY (a lot of these)
STY
FLY
WHYS
TRYST
CYST
MYTH
(There's also a Welsh word CWM, but I can't imagine them using it.)

It's possible though unlikely that they used any of the following:
MMMM MMMM MMMM MMMM (song title, 1994)
M & Q (fictional characters, from the Bond films)

THERE'S THE RESPECT THAT MAKES CALAMITY OF SO LONG LIFE, FOR WHO WOULD BEAR THE WHIPS AND SCORNS OF TIME, THE OPPRESSOR'S WRONG, THE PROUD MAN'S CONTUMELY, THE PANGS OF DESPISED LOVED, THE LAW'S DELAY, THE INSOLENCE OF OFFICE AND THE SPURNS THAT PATIENT MERIT OF THE UNWORTHY TAKES, WHEN HE HIMSELF MIGHT HIS QUIETUS MAKE WITH A BARE BODKIN? WHO WOULD FARDELS BEAR, TO GRUNT AND SWEAT UNDER A WEARY LIFE, BUT THAT THE DREAD OF SOMETHING AFTER DEATH, THE UNDISCOVER'D COUNTRY FROM WHOSE BOURN NO TRAVELLER RETURNS, PUZZLES THE WILL AND MAKES US RATHER BEAR THOSE ILLS WE HAVE THAN FLY TO OTHERS THAT WE KNOW NOT OF? THUS CONSCIENCE DOES MAKE COWARDS OF US ALL, AND THUS THE NATIVE HUE OF RESOLUTION IS SICKLIED O'ER WITH THE PALE CAST OF THOUGHT, AND ENTERPRISES OF GREAT PITCH AND MOMENT WITH THIS REGARD THEIR CURRENTS TURN AWRY, AND LOSE THE NAME OF ACTION.

This could either be the richest puzzle in the show's history, or the stingiest one if it's used in the bonus round.
Which reminds me... I remember a segment of "Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?" (not "Where in the World") in which Thomas Crapper is brought aboard the ship, which gave them license to yell the word "CRAPPER!" several times in front of the kids on public television. I wonder now whether they got their facts right in that segment. Anybody happen to have it?

(I also remember that that was the only entertaining segment in all of "Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?".)

I've seen it the latter 99% of the time. If you're a fan of the NES video game StarTropics though, you'd also spell it the 2nd way too (just throwing that out there also because it's been my favorite video game since it was released in 1990, and we have a few VG people here too)... :)
