Michael Davies will be assisting with production in the interim.

on one hand, it's good that someone else made the announcement -- tells me the decision was out of his hands.
on the other "we hoped it would all blow over if we didn't make him host" isn't instilling a lot of confidence in leadership at the executive level.
-
To be fair, Sony’s actions before all of this certainly would have you believing that they don’t quite get it. Davies is a solid interim steward.
Will we get a LeVar Burton for EP brigade?
-
I wonder if Mike gets a "golden parachute" as part of his exit. Wouldn't surprise me if he does. The folks at Fremantle are probably thanking him for leaving them last year.

hollywood, like politics, ensures that nobody actually suffers any negative ramifications as a result of their actions. if somebody fails, they fail upwards.
so of course he will.

One thing being missed here... he still works for Sony and is the EP for Chain Reaction at GSN, amongst others.

So Mike is still with Sony in some capacity. I would think given all the bad publicity they would want to cut their losses and boot him.

And now more stuff is coming out about his tenure as TPIR's exec producer...

(and the things about some of the prizes are a bit shocking to me- I mean, outlet stores?)

I wouldn't expect anyone to remember every post on this board, but this tidbit was reported previously (http://www.gameshowforum.org/index.php/topic,24995.msg312224.html#msg312224)...sounds like high-end outlets at least.

I know Mark put it into context, but I’d take a gift card to our local outlet and stock up on Nike, Adidas, or Converse.
/Oh, and Old Navy

Once Barker was out and Fremantle finally got full control, most of these changes were inevitable no matter if Richards was hired or it was someone else.

Agreed. I do feel as though Fremantle was going to clean house of most, if not all, of the veteran staffers as soon as Barker was gone and a routine had been established with the new host... and that's exactly what happened one year in.
But it sounds like Mikey could've been less of an ass about it.

Not to mention that staff were allegedly buying up unwon prizes for themselves.
I'm not saying that this was definitely the case, but if it went high enough up the ladder it could give the impression that certain prizes were set up to be lost so the staff could take them home. Again, not saying that's what happened, but it's a bad look all around.

i used to think that since the quiz show scandals, no producer would be willing to risk a stretch in a federal pen just to goose a show's ratings a fraction of a point.
in light of recent events, i am now convinced that richards would be the only person dumb enough to try it.

Looks like he’s suing, for wrongful termination? Or maybe to have Sony payoff the remainder of his contract?

Wherever he’s hired next, keep an eye out for a Celebrity version of it.

Wherever he’s hired next
That's quite a leap of faith.
Mike Richards is not some wunderkind who has cured cancer or created the Internet. In the pantheon of game-show producers he is by no means in the same league as, say, Bob Stewart, Frank Wayne or Bob Noah. Now he's radioactive with a trail of lawsuits at Fremantle behind him. If he proceeds against Sony (he has only hired a lawyer but not filed suit yet), he'll be unemployable IMO. He would either have to prevail against Sony (it's not exactly a slam-dunk case) or he's finished, again IMO. Sony has the doctrine of employment at will in their favor and they're lawyered-up, too. Suzanne Prete is herself a lawyer, I believe.
Start popping the popcorn.
