Title: What pop/rock songs would make good GS themes?

...Assuming an instrumental version would or could be recorded.
Two that I have in mind: "For Want of a Nail" by Todd Rundgren, and "Severe Tire Damage Theme" by They Might Be Giants (which already is an instrumental).

Whenever I hosted mock versions of game shows as a young whelp, I always used the theme from Exodus by Ferrante & Teicher. Still do. Do I owe them any royalties?

This could make a good thread:

"Groove Line" --Heatwave
"The Glow of Love" --Change/Luther Vandross
"And The Beat Goes On" --The Whispers

I can go on, but my mind's not up and running right now. Let me get back to ya.

How about "Mr. Roboto" for IGAS?  "Word Up" by Cameo for "Scrabble."  "Pimp Juice" for anything; it's just a great tune.

Two I used for university game shows that were already instrumentals:

"Birdland," Weather Report (for Match Game)
"Route 101," Herb Alpert (for Password)

I heard someone on g-r.net mention that the instrumental parts of "Twilight World" by Swing Out Sister would make good GS music...or at least a good cue. Of course, seeing as I like that group, I'm obligated to agree.

I also mentioned in the thread that some of the instrumentals in "Make Me Smile" by Chicago could work.

Three that I've used:

Instrumental parts of Chant #1 by Spandau Ballet
Instrumental parts of Bustin' Loose by Chuck Brown
Hang Up Your Hang Ups by Herbie Hancock

Hey Folks,

I think that the instrumental pieces of Patience from Guns and Roses would make a great cue for trips on Joker's Wild and Card Sharks.
As a sidenote, this song definitely sounds almost exactly like the Joker's Wild cue for trips to Tahoe and Hawaii.

And I have a game show idea for which I'd like to use the song Just A Little Bit from Gina G.

Take care,
Chris

I used Severe Tire Damage Theme as the theme to my game Pineapple Remix, at pacdudegames.com. How ironic.

If the JXL Mix of Elvis' "A Little Less Conversation" was all instrumental, I'd like to see that used somewhere (I have edited 45 seconds of it edited already, and either end can be extended, but especially the beginning.)

And didn't "TPIR" use "Route 101" as a theme Showcase cue?--I can't remember which one, but I remember that either Stan or Bart put the bridge at the top of the cut to accompany Johnny O's "Your Showcase is..."

Ah yes, the days when "TPIR" would still clear commercially-released music...

Now , on a slightly less sarcastic note, I always thought Huey Lewis' "Hip to be Square" would be great for a HSquares revival....but in hindsight, the 2 themes that HS and H2 used were both GREAT themes....

The Huey Lewis song was a hit right as the Davidson Squares was premiering IIRC. John Ricci uses that song on his website in a montage on Davidson HS moments.

That gives me an idea to put out a cd of "Unoriginal Score: Pop Music From TPIR," with all the cues not written by Score Prods.  Even non-game show fans might dig it.

Interestingly enough, I heard the song on TV last nite after signing off. It was a very catchy tune, and there's an instrumental breakdown that would've made a nice little portion for the theme (but "Square Biz" had a nice horn line IMO).

I think "Classical Gas" could be a good GS theme, also An instrumental version of "Kokomo" by The Beach Boys could be good for a trip cue or something.

"My Baby's Baby" by Liquid Gold.  Never heard of it?  Well, it was a minor hit in 1980, but the 45 has an instrumental B-side that rocks...or should I say discos!

That's entirely possible, given TPiR's then-policy of using instrumental portions of hit songs as cues...I recall them using Melissa Manchester's "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" in the same capacity for the same basic prize.

One of the last times they did this was on the 19th season premiere in 1990...it was a Salute to Automation showcase, and the song they used? "Automatic", by the Pointer Sisters. :-)

anyway, There's a long instrumental section on the remix of "Twilight World"- and i think the first half would sound great as a 2-3- or 4 prize cue, and the second half would be great a Grocery music...

But that's just me...

However, two other MFSB songs - Sexy and Philadelphia Freedom - were used as cues on LMaD '80, usually during the Big Deal, as per Mark J.

Two more came to me...one would be Elton John's "Island Girl." The chorus sounds like it could make a decent song.

Then there's "Hella Good," by No Doubt. I know it's recent, but it was actually pretty catchy, esp. for a recent song. :-/

Actually, several newscasts around the country used a speeded up version of the middle few bars (where the horns come in with the 'dah-dah-daaa-da-da-daa-daa-daaaaa!") as their news theme in the 70s. It worked quite well.

And how come nobody has used "Word Up" for a suggested Password revival?

(Of course, most of what we hear has lyrics, and as we all know no good game show theme has had lyrics, and if you say so, it's a lie, lie, you're telling a lie...)
