Or maybe that should say Talk About on Buzzr. It's coming to Buzzr starting with a marathon on May 29th, then to the regular schedule May 30th:

From the promo clips, it looks to be season 1 (which recently turned up on BonusRound.ca).
-
And the Forbidden Door opens again.
I do see that TA also was seen on Game TV, like the 90s Newlywed Game. So there's def. a deal there.
(one that hopefully means Clark $100K and TTD too in the future...)

GameTV has only ever shown season 2 of Talk About, so I don't see a connection.

Does it now disappear from BonusRound or really nocares from Buzzr that they have it?

*pant pant pant*
That is all.
/please, Buzzr, put it at a reasonable time

I'd almost bet BonusRound might have brokered the pickup to begin with

given that lots of the content ends up on Youtube, I’m just happy that a tiny niche-y streaming service is making these pickups anyway, but for your sake I hope it airs when you can se3 it.

Considering that, for it to get on Youtube, someone has to record it, it's a perfectly reasonable sentiment Chief-O has.
I never enjoyed having to be up at 4 in the morning on a Sunday to record Now You See It, but I put the effort in. Made me all the happier when they added a 10:30am weekday slot for it back in November. I recognize that not everyone has a flexible-enough schedule to stay up into the dead of night to catch a show they love (and woe unto the two, maybe three people who actually liked Bzzz!, for that reason).

Well this is weird.. Buzzr posted a clip of Talk About to YouTube and it's from Season 2. All the clips in the promo were from season 1.

Aha.
So the GameTV theory might have some weight? (S2, as you said, is what they air)
Just seems suss that the non-Fremantle works aside from Whew! have thus far been things that GameTV aired. No I am not sure if GameTV somehow has rights to both Talk About seasons, or if Buzzr still must see them to get any season.

Though, FWIW, if BUZZR and GameTV's programming directors have been in cahoots, then we can use pickups on GameTV as a barometer for the likelihood of BUZZR getting that same show down the road. But at the same time, correlation ≠ causation, so do what you will with my opinion.

Not the first time this has happened with Buzzr's promo department. Remember this promo when they launched Whew! last year? I think I remember hearing in this forum that the promo had some clips of episodes that have yet to air on the channel. Why they throw in these "Easter Eggs" that we can't eat is beyond me.

Massive kudos to Buzzr for picking up another non-Fremantle property. First time the show's airing on a US channel in...what, 30 years?
Still, there's one thing I haven't seen discussed - yes, Seasons 1 and 2 are by all indication intact, but where's Celebrity Talk About?
-
This is a pleasant surprise, indeed. One of the first shows that I got interested in, even as a 4 year old.

Yeah, has anyone here ever been able to place the "my stomach hurts" girl?
-
I would guess it's from episode 76 or 77. When they began airing Whew weekdays, they started with episode 78. If after they finish Celebrity Whew, they go back and show episodes 8-77, it could be in the last fresh episode of Whew to air on the network.
Her opponent seems to be the champion in episode 78.

BUZZR must have tons of faith in Talk About, since per TV Passport, it's getting the 8pm/11pm weeknights slot, replacing Classic Concentration. No word on weekend airings as of yet.
-
I get it though. It’s a relative obscurity that ran for a year in the States, so they wanna raise a little awareness instead of burying it at a time when no one’s home.

I mean, they had the faith in Classic Concentration to put it there. While it had probably proved itself in other timeslots before it got the 8pm slot, like Talk About, it's a show that hadn't been reran since the last rerun aired on 1991. So, I don't know how familiar people really were with it once it started airing again.

Classic Concentration got 8pm in February 2021... and had already been on the network since October 2018, so it was very well-established already.

I’m just a bit befuddled that they’re giving Talk About such a push right out of the gate. You’d think that, for a show that’s not even part of an established franchise, they’d at best put it in a late afternoon slot a la Whew! and see if it grows from there. Plus a network generally wants their heavy hitters in prime time.* So TA going right into 8:00 is a bit mystifying. Are we sure Fremantle doesn’t have a stake in BonusRound.ca?
*Of course, this is the channel that’s had Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour in prime time for nearly 3 years straight, so what do I know? But even that was part of two successful franchises, so there’s some basis to give it a prime slot, even if it’s generally considered the weak link in the lineage of both.
/Though personally I’d take MGHSH any day over MG ‘98.

For us West Coast folk, taking a 5pm slot when half of us are done with work, should have its weight - especially if most of us are busy at 1:30 for Whew!

Fair point. But that begs the question, why on earth don't they run a late repeat of Whew!? I know, ET generally drives programming decisions. But I'm in ET and would be happy to have a late viewing option.

So I’m watching the launch marathon as I type this and doing some research, it looks like they’re playing the first 6 episodes. So when the show joins the regular lineup tomorrow, will they continue with Episode 7 or are they jumping to Season 2?

They're skipping episode 7 and continuing to episode 8.

Some observations:
I know payoffs on Canadian shows are cheap, but in the bonus game, why not give the team BOTH prizes instead of either/or if the talker can get all 10 words? I know there is bonus cash already offered as the carrot, but the odds are so low for a perfect 10, it would've been a nice gesture.
Speaking of the bonus game, where does that window cover for the isolation booth go to when the isolated contestant occupies the booth? Yes, it's a minor technical question, but it's nice to know how certain things are placed/moved to on a show.

I think I saw it sliding up after a round at one point, so I think it just retracts into the door (sort of like a car window). Would have to re-watch my recording to verify, though.

Yeah, I caught that. You're exactly right.

Had no idea Wayne Cox was around 40 when this aired (see November 1989 Vancouver paper article with high optimism: https://www.newspapers.com/image/502833718/?terms=%22talkabout%22%20%2B%20%22wayne%20Cox%22&match=1)

I saw Talkabout for the first time yesterday.
Sorry, there's no other way to put it: it's an unmitigated piece of shit.
Where is the play-along in the main game? You have contestants blabbering away with select words intermittently appearing on the screen. Is there some play-along element that I'm missing? No play-along translates to no audience involvement.
If I had proposed this game either at G-T or at any of the networks, my ass would still be smarting from being given the boot.
How did this show ever see the light of day?
-

Speaking strictly ex post rectum, the play-along factor is shouting your own ideas at the screen, trying to hit what you might think are the "obvious" words that the contestants on screen are missing. A modern-day equivalent might be America Says.
How did this show ever see the light of day?
I imagine it's because Outburst was such a hit board game at the time and the core gameplay mechanic is the same (hit key words about a given topic against the clock).
-
The subject is "hen". I shout "cluck" at the screen and it doesn't appear.
So much for audience involvement.
-
It was pitched for Canadian television and later picked up in US syndication but was never picked up straight to US television. I agree it's not great, but compare it to some of the other samples from BonusRound. I'd rather Talkabout any day of the week over Love Handles, Acting Crazy, or (shudder) The Next Line.
-

I guess where I see the difference is if the contestants aren't saying "cluck" and it comes up after the fact, the home viewer feels superior for hitting one of the "right" answers that the contestants didn't think of.
I'd rather Talkabout any day of the week over Love Handles, Acting Crazy, or (shudder) The Next Line.
Agreed, although I give credit to Love Handles for featuring same-sex couples with no big noise or fanfare in 1996, a year before Ellen came out on, uh, Ellen.
-

Totally innocuous, this show.
And as a 4 year old that watched this when it was paired with Jackpot, this was good (but weird) word-association game. I owe a little bit of appreciation of the genre to Talk About.
-
I’m probably biased because at 6 or 7 all game shows looked great to me, but this one holds a special place in my heart for some reason. I look at it the same way I do GSN’s originals: simple but maybe undercooked, but it still has the ability to make you yell answers at the screen.
There’s some Canadian charm here that you don’t see on other shows.
-

You can get the Password Puzzle off one clue and it still doesn’t show up right away either- what’s the difference?
I don’t see anything glaringly wrong with this one, though I think the bonus round could use an overhaul. It’s a lower stakes game show that has a lot of charm and a good host. Not every show is going to be Filet Mignon, but there’s nothing wrong with being a juicy hamburger.
-

Yeah, jumping off of what Jeremy said, I'm trying to understand the difference between this and constantly yelling what you think is a good clue at your screen during a game of Password? People are invested in waiting to see if the people in the box will validate how smart they think they are and how dumb they think the people in the box are.
I absolutely love watching Talk About for that very reason. Finding myself just as mystified waiting to see what other words they came up with to describe whatever subject was chosen by the contestants. It's like trying to figure out the rest of the words in a Password puzzle.
-

Buried in the game is the unique idea of the scoring system. Your team can knock off 9 of the 10 clue words, but the opponents can still earn/steal a hefty payday of all those points by correctly guessing the subject with one lone unknown clue. Kind of like original Password in reverse.
In the bonus round, playing double or nothing for smaller winnings in less time is a unique twist as well.

According to Wiki, GameTek made a home version in addition to Pressman's box game. Is this legit, or can I safely edit it out of the page for the show? I figured it might have simply not been released, but I can't find any other references to it online.

I've never seen a copy of it either, but the first reference I remember seeing mention it was Matt O.'s home game compendium.

I would say you're missing it. This post made me curious and I happened to be visiting my parents (who aren't really game show lovers) this week, so I just played an episode without saying why I was interested in watching it with them. Mom was hooked immediately and talked at the TV through the whole thing. Pretty much the same play-along element as Family Feud. You want to see if they'll say the answer you think of.

In one of the earliest episodes, Wayne offered a team the option to talk about Cocoon, clarifying that he meant the movie. To which I reacted, "Oh, that's probably where the 'I'll put this in quotes' thing came from. Because if one of the words is 'movie,' you just gave them help." The team chose the other subject, so I don't know what words were on the list.
The series is at the point where Wayne is telling contestants when he's putting things in quotes now. But in yesterday's Buzzr episode, he once again offered a team the option to talk about Cocoon in the main game, once again clarifying that he meant the movie.
At which point I realized that no one updated that particular host card. But I was more surprised that the show is recycling unused subjects in the main game. In the bonus round, sure, no problem, but given that half of the front game is identifying the subject, it seems like a bad idea to give a team the opportunity to think, "Say, wasn't Cocoon one of the available subjects in that episode we watched recently?"
-

I think it depends on how the season was taped and aired. If the entire season was in the can before any episodes aired then it's a moot point, so long as the competing teams weren't in the audience for its previous mention.
I certainly see the desire to recycle categories that went un-selected. Without that, you're throwing away half of the content you've written without it ever hitting air.

Assuming a 5/day, 5/week schedule, this would be some time in the 2nd week of taping. Also, if the early episodes had aired, both teams would in theory have been exposed to it could game plan accordingly.
Another potential explanation specific to just this topic is that the 2nd Cocoon episode would've aired close to when the Cocoon sequel would have hit theatres. Maybe someone thought pushing out a topic related to then-current events could increase the show's popularity.

Did Buzzr already burn through their first wave of episodes? Looks like they are back to Episode 1 as of Friday Night.

No, they ran Episode 1 in lieu of Episode 32. We keep going on Monday with Episode 33. And likewise, on Friday the 8th, Episode 37 is due to be skipped and replaced with Episode 2.

Actually it is very helpful in bonus round. The team just plans a very likely word for likely subjects. If we get " Cocoon" I won't say "Howard" until I get to 9.
