Title: Wheel of Fortune in Ohio
Post by: MikeK on February 15, 2004, 07:41:38 PM
While shopping this afternoon, I noticed a new Ohio Lottery scratch-off ticket, Wheel of Fortune.  This is the first game show-centric ticket put out by the Ohio Lottery.  The payoff on the ticket I bought wasn't bad at all.  I spent $2 and got back $10.

Here's the Ohio Lottery's page for the WoF instant ticket. (http://\"http://www.ohiolottery.com/games/i_365_wheel_of_fortune.html\")  The lottery agent also had a promotional pamphlet with information about a second chance drawing.  A scan of the outside of the pamphlet is here (http://\"http://www.mikeklauss.com/woflotto1.jpg\") and the inside is here (http://\"http://www.mikeklauss.com/woflotto2.jpg\").

The Michigan Lottery also has a Wheel Of Fortune ticket. It isn't the first time there's been a game show connection with Michigan's lottery, but one of the early times it wasn't licensed. The state tried to pull a fast one with a The Joker's Wild and a Tic Tac Dough instant game many years ago. Didn't last long. I think B&E's lawyers got involved.

Wish they had that for the Texas Lottery.

I remember they once had a Treasure Hunt scratchoff game a long time ago (no relation of the Chuck Barris show) with a top prize of $25,000!

If I had bought that from a retailer, they'd probably say, "Sorry, this scratch-off's for female players only! (LOL)"

GSwitch does post some bizarre things. But there's a joke in his "Treasure Hunt" and "only females can buy the ticket bit", as only ladies were contestants on that show(at least in the versions we're more familiar with)

Sorry for my stupid, witty, bizarre humor!  At least I wouldn't resort to dirty adjectives (profanity).

The only time gentlemen ever played Treasure Hunt was on the original 1950's version when Jan Murray owned & hosted the show.  The 1950's Treasure Hunt also had a quiz segment as well.  The game was played straightforward without the sketches.

Then 14 years later, Chuck Barris bought the rights from Jan Murray.  And then discontinued the quiz & male contestants (which is why TH's The Game Show Witch of the East)!

They had a WOF game for the Oregon Lottery, but it was less of a play-along-at-home game and more of a simple money game.

And I would hate to see those shows merge!

David Ruprecht would be perfect for Treasure Hunt while for Just Men!...Jane Kaczmarek!!!

WITCH:  (Looking @ herself with hand mirror)  That would be a beautiful idea.  I look gorgeous, don't I?

NJ lottery had a Wheel game years ago.  The winner had to be the contestant color your card had.  If you won you got a tee-shirt.  I won, but never got a tee-shirt.

Oh, speaking of WOF Lottery tickets, I found a page that descrives those tickets, promotions, and some miscellaneous stuff.

That's the way Virginia did theirs, but I don't think it was for a T-shirt. I don't know why, but for some strange reason, I have a feeling that Wheel lottery ticket winners *might* have had the chance to become a contestant.

It's been 6 years since we had a Wheel ticket, so my memory is very hazy.

Y'know, we're treading dangerously close to a.t.g.s. territory here....let's all pull back, and if something isn't aimed directly at you and it bothers you, just ignore it, OK?

For those of you Keystoners, it is pretty much the same game ticket that the Pennsylvania Lottery had about 2-3 years ago, except the area where you 'reveal' the board letters is different.

Though I have only won $2 on the Ohio WOF to date, I hit for $25 and $100 on PA's WOF back in the day.

I've found my new lucky game.  I bought another single ticket.  Again, I won $10.  Why couldn't this luck have happened yesterday with the Super Millionaire callbacks? :-)

Lucky You! I'm an Ohioan too and I've bought two a day for the last few days and have won nothing. I usually don't play the lottery, but since this is the Ohio Lottery's 1st GS ticket, then I feel obligated to buy them :) It just adds to my game show fascination, it gives me a reason to buy them.
I'll keep trying to win big :)
I guess all of my non-winners are going into that second chance drawing so I can maybe win some Wheel stuff or that audition.

Well, good luck, but remember, all Ohio Lottery players are subject to the commission's rules and regulations -- and for this game, I noticed that you have to be 18 years of age in order to win.

(Which means I'm not eligible to win in that game because I'm 54 years of age -- so for me, it's back to picking up those non-winning Powerball Instant Millionaire tickets I find on the sidewalks here in Kentucky and sending them in for a chance to be on that other lottery show that airs opposite the Ohio Lottery Cash Explosion Double Play show in my area!)

It fried. What you should have focussed on was the overly-moralistic and even more overly-repetitive boasting about how he scrounges the dead tickets off the street and sends them in.

Iffin I can recall the OH Lottery WOF Brochure, (which includes a handy-dandy self-addressed envelope to play the second chance game with,)  I believe each person cand send in only ONE entry and ONE entry only, which consists of 2 non-winning WOF tix.

Not a bad rule...It gives us 'casual' players a chance to compete against the old-timers who blow their kids inheritances at $200 a week without batting an eye!

BTW, are ALL the affiliates of the Ohio Lottery Cash Explosion Show the same affiliates who also carry Wheel during the week?

Coincidentally, I have several WoF pamphlets here at my computer desk, all sans envelopes since I sent in some entries earlier this week.

The pamphlet says that one entry (2 losing tickets) is allowed per envelope, entries are valid for one drawing only, and a single winner can't win more than 3 WoF prize packs per drawing and only 1 grand prize during the promotion.  Since you can win up to 3 prize packs per drawing, you aren't limited to one entry per drawing.  No upper ceiling of entries per person is mentioned.

I don't know if many old-timers, especially those with a limited income and likely little patience, would take the time to watch WoF (if they don't already), fill out the reverse of the tickets, spend their lotto money on postage, and then drive to the post office.

No.  Dayton and Youngstown don't have a single channel that doesn't air both WoF and Cash Explosion.

For the first time I heard on the radio today the new Ohio Lottery :60 radio spot  promoting the new WOF instant game.  Not a bad little ditty...

Charlie 'O' voices the whole commercial (I don't believe he actually mentioned who he was, but it definitely was Charlie.

It almost sounded as if *every* WOF sound effect was used somewhere in the spot, including the "Wheel......Of......Fortune" chant...  Woulda been even better if Charlie got to say it in his trademark style instead.  :-P

Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable spot.

There's now a 30 second WOF spot w/ Charlie O (I heard in a network slot on a Cleveland Indians broadcast). Thankfully they didn't go overboard with the SFX on this version (only the puzzle notes and the final spin clang are used).

This afternoon, I noticed some local lottery retailers have some pieces of advertising behind their lottery counters with Vanna in front of the WoF logo used on the tickets.  IIRC, this display piece is used to hold the lottery's pamphlets about the game.  I haven't seen any TV ads for the WoF ticket but I'm sure Ohioans will see TV spots in due time.

While at one of the retailers, I bought more tickets.  I found my new favorite ticket.  I bought 4 tickets ($8 worth) and got winners worth $2 and $40, and another second chance drawing entry (2 losers).

Sadly, you may be...I remember when I was younger (here he goes again) asking for beer promotion pieces and being told I couldn't have them because of some obscure state law that said they had to be either destroyed or returned to the distributor. Then again, I may just have been obnoxious and he made it up to get rid of me.

Seriously, state laws being what they are, they may have such a stupid rule. Doesn't hurt to ask, tho.

You're right, I could see something goofy regulating lottery and alcohol and other various "adult"-type promotions, to keep them out of the hands of precocious minors, but it's certainly worth the inquiry. :)
