Title: Ok, I watched a little od Celebrity Mole
Post by: whewfan on January 22, 2004, 05:40:31 AM
I just happened to tune in to Celebrity Mole, just to see if it was as bad as some say it is.... I'd say it's WORSE

Just like the dreadful "I'm a Celebrity, Get me Out of Here", we have an eclectic array of wash ups and near wash ups.

The series SHOULD be called "Celebrity Mole- A pathetic attempt to get better and less humiliating work in TV and movies"

Celeb Mole definitely tests the "celebs" tolerance of doing humiliating things, as in today's episode, chasing after chickens and navigating through a maze featuring Indian wrestlers and a mariachi band.

Here we go with the "stars"

HOST- Ahmad Rashad- I wonder if ex wife Phylicia (sp?) was the master mind behind this? Getting her ex the most demeaning job to pay the child support/alimony?

Keisha Knight Pulliam- What the? Oh yeah, she IS grown up now. Guess being stuck forever as little Rudy has made it difficult.  It could be worse, she COULD have a dreadful, retched sitcom on the Disney channel like her younger co-star Raven Simone.

Stephen Baldwin- Shame on you Stephen! I hope he'll fire his agent.

Dennis Rodman- Well, at least he's not wearing a dress

Tracey Gold- I'm speechless here... She does look better since her battle with anarexia.

Angie Everhart- She's still stunning, but her side commentary does NOT help things

Corbin Bernson(sp?)- Yeah, he was on LA Law, and he WAS on Celeb Mole

There are a couple names I'm forgetting, but who cares? Is the REGULAR version of The Mole THIS bad?!

No, they actually went places and did things on the regular Mole. (They also had a better host, IMO)

Wait about six weeks after the week of Mar. 15, when GSN starts running the first *real* "Mole."  You may like that a lot better.

And as some of you may've heard, the third round of UK "I'm a Celebrity..." is about to start--and among the has-beens, never-weres and (for Americans) who-dats is John "Johnny Rotten" Lydon, infamous lead singer of the infamous Sex Pistols.  What was that about "No future/No future...", Johnny?

[Neil Young] The king is gone/But he's not forgotten/This was the story/Of Johnny Rotten... [NY]

The regular show was exceptional. When they get into Series 2 of the regular show on GSN, my Tivo will be jumping.

Good Lord, Celebrity Mole Yucatan isn't that bad. I like it. Just give it a chance.

The impression I got was that the original poster DID give it a chance and didn't care for it.

Nono, in this context "give it a chance" means "you're wrong, now keep watching it until you change your mind." :)

The show itself is good, but on both this version and the previous celebrity shows, I had never heard of the many of the celebrities.  The ones I had heard of I haven't seen them working much.

For instance:

Mark Curry, star of Hangin with Mr. Cooper.  How long has that been off?
Same thing with the Ananda Lewis Show and Growing Pains.

Cooper ended in 1998, Ananda's show was 2001-02, and Growing Pains ended in 1992.

The show has the "u" and two "a"s underlined in Yucatan.  This is AU = Gold for Tracey Gold as the mole.  Corbin Bernsen didn't realize how right he was when he saw the goldfish on the wall in the first episode.  How the heck has Rodman survived three executions?

I don't see anything humiliating about chasing after chickens or running around a maze.  In fact, both looked like a lot of fun to me.

[Spoiler for this week's episode follows]

What's really annoyed me, as I mentioned on my blog, is that the producers have spoiled the past two executions by giving away the ending during the pre-commercial teasers.  "Coming up, our most shocking execution yet."  This week they might as well have just said, "Next on Celebrity Mole: Stephen Baldwin gets eliminated.  Feel free to change the channel now."

Grrrrrr...

I think "The Mole" is just about the best of the "reality" shows, however I certainly would like to see another version with civilians as contestants rather than celebrities.  Does anyone know if they ever plan to do that again?

As far as I've heard, it doesn't look good. This Celebrity Mole edition was in the can for some time before it finally aired. If it weren't for the fact that ABC is in big trouble ratings-wise, I doubt it would have even aired on the mother network or until summer.

Is that your final answer?  I think that ABC needs something like "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" again...

Well, we've got "Deal or No Deal" coming.  Something *like* "WWTBAM."  Definitely not the *exact* "WWTBAM."

I heard that the original plan was to do a Mole 3 with civilians instead of celebrities.  This plan was in place before the first Celebrity Mole aired.  When ABC saw the ratings for the first celebrity version, they decided they wanted another celebrity version (Yucatan) instead of civ. contestants.

Unlike most game shows, I think the "celebrity" edition of The Mole is something that can be better that the civilian edition.  After all, it is a game of devious deception on the part of the "mole" player in the game, something that a professional actor/actress should be ideally suited for.

Still, though I have been enjoying this current run of the show, I have to agree with a comment that appeared in USA Today during the Celebrity Mole - Hawaii run: "Forget who's the Mole -- who's the celebrity?"

(Too bad the fallout from the first season of Survivor left me disinclined to watch the first Mole series -- I did see the second one, and thought it was quite good.)

You'll be able to catch the 1st series of The Mole once GSN adds it to the lineup as part of their March revamp.
