Title: G-T 70's syndie panels
Post by: Jimmy Owen on December 05, 2003, 12:00:47 PM
Inspired by Matt's heads up on tonight's WML?, I was wondering if any panelist appeared on all three of the 70's syndie panels (IGAS, TTTT, WML?).  I'm guessing Henry Morgan, but beyond that I don't know.

Besides Henry, Gene Rayburn is the only other one I can think of offhand. (I can't remember if Nipsey ever appeared on the IGAS panel.)

Henry Morgan, Meredith Macrae, Jack Cassidy, Alan Alda, Anita Gillette, Gene Rayburn, and Bert Convy did all three.

There's a prime example of a joke going down in flames.

The Hot Tuna bassist, who played for Jefferson Airplane before that, was Jack Casady.  The difference is in the spelling.

I remembered after the fact that the two Jacks had differently spelled names.

Hey hey hey! You're all forgeting about Jorma Kaukonen!

HOT (censored) JORMA!

#54 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time!

To keep this post relevant, I'm surprised Gene Rayburn wasn't immediately cited as one of the guys who did all three. He had such an acute mind and unquenchable curiosity, and a heckuva sense of humor. I like watching his 70's panel shots as much as I like seeing him on "Match Game".

Hang on. I remember Meredith MacRae on IGAS and WML, but I never knew she did TTTT. GSN ever show it?

OT slightly: Gene Rayburn and Bert Convy also did the syndicated Beat the Clock around the same time.

Yes, I have two episodes of an unusual week with Meredith, Gene Rayburn and Larry Blyden joining Kitty on the panel.

BTW, Blyden also was a panelist on WML? when Wally Bruner hosted, but best I can tell, he never ventured out west to do the 70s version of IGAS.

Wasn't Larry out west from 70-72 for "On a Clear Day" and "Movie Game." Of course, he was back in NYC in the fall of 72 for WML, concurrent with IGAS.

Sorry, my original post was unspecific.  Like any working actor, Blyden went back and forth between the coasts to work wherever the job was.  He didn't, however, venture west *for the purpose of appearing* on IGAS.

My, how we've regressed as a society when people have relegated Jack Cassidy, husband of Shirley Jones and father of Ryan, Shaun and David, to "who?" status.

Add to that Betty White and there's your list of syndie IGAS, TTTT, and WML? panelists . . .
