Title: "Feud" on GSN (9:00AM 8/13)
Post by: gamed121683 on September 13, 2010, 09:29:45 AM
So I'm watching Feud on GSN this morning at 9:00AM looking forward to be greeted by Richard Dawson. I ended up getting "Al Borlen's" version instead. Is this a new unannounced schedule change? Did they now lose the rights to Dawson's Feud, too? What's going on here?!

EDIT: Did I type 8/13? I'm an idiot, I meant 9/13. However, I'm sure most of you figured that out already :-!.

Some are speculating this may be a test, others claim GSN is burying another classic.

Just want to ask:  Who is Al Borlen?  I never heard of his version before.

Is it a character played by Richard Karn?

If it is Richard Karn's version of Feud that aired today, then it's Hasta La Vista to Richard Dawson, and good riddance to a host who did nothing but constantly kiss female contestants on the air.

But then again, Dawson's Feud may come back if GSN decides to drop $25K/$100K Pyramid from the schedule at some point.  But for now, I am so happy I won't have to see this host promote sexual harassment.

We need a Game Show Classic (what GSN used to be) network!

But how are we gonna get one if it's not profitable? That's why I hope that in the future, there will be a Hulu-esque site to provide us with some of our favorite gems. And the best part: No credit crunchers and no speed ups!

That's the thing.  A GSN Classic Network would only appeal to older audiences.  Richard Dawson's fanbase for his version of Family Feud is slowly disappearing as they retire and get older.  So a GSN Classic Network would not work that well.  It would be nice, but it would be competition against the GSN we know today.  Eventually the viewing audience for Card Sharks and Match Game will move on to better stuff.  The classic shows are going to die someday.  I believe classic shows are not as "timeless" as songs by Elvis, Michael Jackson, Madonna, or even Britney Spears.  Heck, come 2050, radio stations will still be playing Michael Jackson's Billie Jean or even Elvis's Jailhouse Rock.

Actually, I do still post on GSN Buzz.  I just cannot access it where I am right now.  But I only post on GSN Buzz in the evenings.

And if my posts on GSN Buzz were that bad, I, as my current GSN alias, would be banned from GSN Buzz by now.  It takes certain criteria in order to qualify for such punishment, and likely according to the moderators, those "so-called" silly posts likely do not meet that criteria.

I don't quite follow you, but nobody here was talking about banning anybody.  You're not going to be banned here for making silly, uninformed posts, and I doubt you would there either.  If GSN Buzz banned people for silly, uninformed posts, there'd hardly be anybody left.  That doesn't make your posts any less silly, or more informed.

Karn played Al Borland on Home Improvement.  Not sure if you knew that or not, but I might as well spell it out for anyone else who might not recognize the name/misspelling.

I never was a fan of Home Improvement, let alone not being a fan of sitcoms myself.  But going a bit off-topic, I do remember Debbe Dunning did appear as a card dealer for one week during the fall of 1988 on Eubanks' Card Sharks, but I only remember first seeing her name in the closing credits to Home Improvement (I was about to watch the local newcast when the credits came on), but didn't know about Debbe's appearance on Card Sharks until GSN last aired them in 2004.

And did I misspell "Borland"?  If I did, did I originally leave off the "d"?

Actually, I find both to be highly irksome, mainly because after so many years, GSN still looks like a second-rate operation with the way they mishandle both. They still cut the squeezed credits off midway through the fee plugs, and still have no learned how to speed up a show properly. If you can't manage to show that you give a damn about how your product looks on air, why should I give one?

My biggest problem is that networks claim they do it to keep people tuned in. If someone wants to watch the next program bad enough, I think they will.

Who also said that if Dawson Feud leaves then "good riddance" and complained about kissing of female contestants. I don't know (or care to know) who's who there really. I haven't read anything on the GSN boards in years. Just checked out the first few on the Feud "Richard Mix-up" thread there and closed the window for another few years.....

Huh.  I thought Dawson Feud was one of the only two classics (MG being the other) that GSN thought enough of to warrant not reducing to a leased package.  I should be glad the channel's pretty much dead to me now, huh?

Yeah a GSN2 might be a bit unrealistic (I'd point out Boomerang as an aversion to this, but even they are compromising their pre-90s content...which kind of makes sense cause that can be up to 20 years old by now).  A Hulu-like site would be nice, because reality be damned, it would still be a shame to lose everything pre-'80s forever. (A world where things Britney are considered timeless?  Yuck...)

And how about Mill Creek?  Or did BCI's sets not do well enough to warrant them reviving the defunct company's plans for WML and Tattletales?

Well, I have about 15 years of tape trading and recording GSN when it was good, I shouldn't complain, should I?

Actually, my JonSea31 account on GSN Buzz was closed not due to conduct problems, but I originally wanted to have my original account closed for security reasons.  Late in May, I was harassed by PMs by a user who posted a video of a 2-year old boy smoking a cigarette and naming him after one of GSN's key figures.  I told him publicly that I was reporting the user, and he retaliated by threatening to report me to the moderators.  He was more in the wrong than I was, which is why he ended up getting banned for good.  If I would have been banned because of him, my ban would have been considered an unjust ban.

To avoid any further harassment in case this person was to come back as a sock-puppet alias (even if he was to add a "2" to his username), I came back under a fresh new alias and started my posting career from scratch.

BTW, if some of you don't believe my reason, then too bad.  If you truly don't agree with my reason, instead of criticizing my posts, please be respectful of them otherwise block me on both forums.  If my current alias was truly being frowned upon, I would not have received a PM by GSNAngel telling me she was closing my JonSea31 account on GSN Buzz.  So that's an indicator that I am not banned from GSN Buzz.

As for my quality of posts being low, that's because I am autistic.  I tend to post material based on my beliefs over certain hosts, shows, or other stuff related to a game show.  And I am sure a lot of people do post the same way too, whether they are autistic or not.  So why do people have to bash me all the time?  If you feel the need to bash me based on my beliefs, put me on ignore and that will solve the problems.

And as for my future of posting on GSN Buzz, the main reason why I post there is because of classics.  If all of the classics disappear from the schedule completely, consider me done with the GSN forums.  And then all I will have to look forward to in terms of game shows will be YouTube uploads and Drew Carey's TPIR.  But once TPIR goes off the air (and hopefully it won't be any time soon), my days of watching television will be limited to just music videos.

Now it is only a matter of time before I find out which Richard came on.  My money is already on Karn.

This. I find that quite reprehensible, and slightly like a now-banned member who used autism as an excuse to cut loose.

A word of advice if you expect to remain here Jon, using your condition as an excuse gets you nowhere. Telling folks to either put up with it or block you doesn't help.
Not your beliefs. Your behavior.
I'm sorry, but I can't help it if I have behavior problems.  Behavior issues are normal for persons with autism.  Autistic persons cannot become non-autistic persons overnight.  It's a developmental disability that alters my brain, and my way of thinking is a lot different than that of a normal person.  A lot of persons with autism post here quite frequently, and a lot of them are not banned.  Why is that?  Because their brains function better than that of mine.

Autism also involves obsessions - some of them can become addictions.  I had my share of addictions during my youth - including Sesame Street, certain content in Richie Rich comics, select cartoons back in the 1980s, and some game shows.  Although many of those obsessions are no longer a part of my life, the magnitude of the surviving obsessions have strengthened greatly.

And autism involves lack of judgment.  Autistic persons tend to perceive things quite differently and that is why those kind of people (including I) tend to post things based on belief and not fact.  In fact, I do admit I never do watch the news on TV.  Why?  Because to me, I have obsessions supersede greatly over the news.  The news is one hour out of my day that takes a chunk out of my time off work.

I also don't have an interest in reading books and/or novels.  Reason?  Because books lack color and images, not to mention I have a very limited vocabulary.  While my vocabulary has broadened in the last decade, it only broadened because they were synonyms for words that I learned in kindergarten and first or second grade.  I never did have an interest in learning new things because "obsessions" got in the way, and I do admit I have had at least one or two obsessions since I was about 3 years old.

Images and color are what attract me to potential new interests.  I cannot approach new interests like a normal person can - I can only "catch" new interests like a virus, and instantly.  This is why I got into Press Your Luck when I first saw it in September 1984.  It was a new interest that I "caught" like a virus in a heartbeat, and I watched it religiously.  Same for Sesame Street back in the 1970s - again, a case of colors and classic animation are what attracted me to the show and remained an obsessive desire until my mother banned it in October 1984.  I tend to live on obsessions.  If all of my obsessions disappear out of my life completely, I will likely end up in a melancholy state (not to the extent of crying) with nothing to do.

Autism also involves repetition.  My brain tends to rely heavily on repetition for decades now.  That's likely an effect of limited interests.  Those limited interests can cause people like me to "eat, sleep, and think" about those narrow interests.  I am unable to broaden my interests because of the way my brain tends to rely heavily on vision as the key sense to determine if certain things qualify as a new interest.  In fact, I have developed only one new interest since 1995 (it was developed in 2007, oddly enough) - and needless to say, it became an obsession.

I recommend for you to take a bit of time to read this article about autism, so that people would be more understanding of the nature of the disability:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism (http://\"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autism\")

By reading this article, you will have a more thorough understanding and you will learn that persons with my disability cannot function like a normal person can, and likely never will.  And you will learn that there should be allowances made for persons with my disability.

BTW, if I am posting based on my beliefs and perception, are forums not recommended for me?

It should be pointed out that you're not banned, either. Just annoying.

Aaaaaand that's gonna be a problem.

The fail, it is epic.

If you're using your disability as an excuse for ignoring facts in favor of your beliefs and perceptions? Correct, forums are not recommended for you. At least, not this one.

Its insulting for you to assume none of us know what autism is.

Why?  Just because Brenda gave you a free pass doesn't mean you get one here as well.

I still expect people to conduct themselves as grown-ups if I'm going to interact with them. Is that going to be a problem for you?

You're in a forum with several autistic members, not to mention one who was banned for doing what you do now: act out and blame it on his autism, thinking he could skirt the law because of it. Your efforts to educate us do nothing but paint a really ugly picture of autistic people, and that they use their condition to gain sympathy and otherwise be obnoxious. Oh, BTW, they all have the decorum you're starting to lack.

Getting back to the original topic, Karn will continue to air Mondays and Fridays, Dawson on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  And starting a week from Monday, they'll be double runs (Eubanks CS off the sked other than the overnight run).

Also, for those of you scoring at home (or if you're alone), GSN will skip 12 episodes (Xmas and New Years) on the first day of the Dawson double run (the 12/18/80 ep airs at 10AM, the 1/5/81 ep airs at 10:30).
