GSN just sent out the advanced schedules through July 28th. They picked up the rights to both seasons of Donny Osmond's Pyramid. It'll air weekdays at 6:00PM replacing Russian Roulette. They changed up a few other things as well. Catch 21 will be rerun weekdays at 10:00PM, Pyramid will be shown at 10:30PM, Lingo at 11:00PM, and Whammy! at 11:30PM.
-
And yet, $25,000 Pyramid sits on the shelf.

Ultimately, any Pyramid is better than no Pyramid.

No fail, but I'll admit the show was fairly tolerable. However, it lacked a lot in drama, and tried to make up for it with rave lighting. With a smoother format, consistent judging, and better writing ("What Donny Osmond's Podium Might Say" is a horrible category), it would've worked. Oh yeah, and the tournament was awful.
Wouldn't hurt to get a brighter set and distinct theme song. I still say the show could be back in the next 10 years, but they really need to go back to the drawing board, and watch some Clark episodes.

I can see trying to 'modernize' the show, but there are some things that changed for no good reason, and really, violate the rules of Good Game Shows (to wit: have a score display on screen, keep a static shot on the playing team, and have a tournament that builds to a climactic finish instead of "Time's up; the player in the wings just won $100,000!")

I thought it was, but from 2002-04, I was still drinking heavily and the program ran in my area at 1:37am.

I got my first DVD recorder for Christmas 2004, so I view this as a chance to replace second- and third-generation copies with OB's, nothing more.

A sort of semi-off topic question for Alex... do you get the same PDFs that the Perf has been posting on his site? I'm only asking since his site is going down next month and I find those to be a great resource.

You forgot the bigger rule: When you call it a $100,000 Tournament, someone had damn well better win $100,000!

I do yes, and I'll be posting them whenever he's done. It's not demanding at all, I'll seriously take any suggestions for additions. We just got the July 21st and July 28th PDF schedules. If he doesn't get those up by the end of this week I'll throw them up somewhere. We haven't gotten PDFs in ages (except for those most recent ones) because Thursday is a big press event.

I have gotten a few of those, too, haha. Incidentally two of those emails came from the same people who yelled at me for, you know, being out of town and enjoying parties with friends and family on the Fourth. Some readers really don't like when you have a life apparently.

Survey says - DING DING DING - number one answer.
Donnymid had its good and bad points. Donny was the best thing about the show, the rules, judging and the "six in twenty seconds" was the worst, IMO. At least we'll get to see the shows where Betty White and Dick Clark played against each other. They showed the young'uns how it should be done.
Hey, at least they're not putting on John Davidson's version of Pyramid - talk about a version that's unwatchable. The one show where Davidson said "You need seven to tie, and eight to win." They had to yell at him that they could only tie, not win. If you're going to host a show, LEARN THE RULES!!! At least Donny knew the rules. 'Nuff said.

Since I didn't watch religiously when it was originally on, what in the hell was the story with that?

The $100,000 tournament, in one of it's several different formats, only allowed for the contestant's total lifetime earnings to exceed $100,000. It consisted of a $25,000 semifinal and a $50,000 final. That plus your initial $25,000 win gives you $100,000. Note that there's no guarantee the semifinal and final WCs will be won...
-
They actually only had two formats, twice each.
Six players:
Each pair of players plays two games. You play for $25,000 for one win, $75,000 for the second. If no one won that way, the best time for $25K was the winner. Both times, it was decided in that manner. However, if two players had each won the $100K in the former manner, they'd both be winners.
Four players:
Each pair of players plays two games, and each trip is worth $25K. The top winners from those two days face each other on day three, and each trip is worth $50K. No one won $100K either of the times they did this, but conceivably one could have won more.
-
Ugh. Couldn't they have just aired the same damn $100K season they ran into the ground instead? At least I could watch good Pyramid as opposed to the horrible-ness of Donnymid.

For me, 6 in 20 was actually an improvement, seeing how often 7 in 30 was nailed on The (New) $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid.

Which was pretty anticlimactic, especially b/c of the aforementioned outcome both times this format was used.

Not to mention the 3rd tournament didn't even have a $50K win in the finals (kinda like Trump Card's season-ending $100K tourney, where the grand prize could only be claimed by winning the bonus round in the finals, which didn't happen).

I think it's funny that GSN is leaving in the references to "pyramidgameshow.com" when typing that in now takes you to the ION TV website.

Eh.... it's definitely not the classic that, say, $20,000 Pyramid (my personal favorite) was, but I enjoy Donnymid enough on its own. It's something other than another airing of Family Feud or Dog Eat Dog.
I always did like their slick graphic package, if nothing else.

The entire production was way better looking then say Karn 'Feud' which it ran concurrently with. Then and now I like this remake.

We'll get at least a couple hours of Clark one of those upcoming marathons. Looks like the skeds on Buzzer are showing 1983. What the heck?

If the worst version of a show is only this bad, the show's had a pretty damn good history.

Was the Dick Clark challenge in 2002 or 2003? I would like to catch it again, just for the heck of it.
