The Big Board / Re: Alternate Daytime Emmys

Donny was a good host stuck in a decent but watered-down revival. I get that modern game shows don’t allow for a big money tournament that could potentially run for several weeks (J! is an anomaly, due to last year’s strike), but I’d rather you just do straight Pyramid instead of half-assing a tourney.

The other rule changes like six words in :20 and the writing/judging never sat well with me either.

Also, the episodes airing out of taping order (which is one reason why that version did not have returning champions) didn't help either.

I was going to say the success of The Traitors had to be a huge tick in The Mole's favor, but this renewal was first reported in February 2023, when The Traitors had just been out in America for a month. So perhaps not.
Season 1 of Netflix's version looks to have come out around the time that Traitors was starting to air in English-speaking countries, so it's still possible someone said "we have The Traitors at home"

VERY much looking forward to seeing Ari, rather than just hearing him. I'm not a huge MOLE fan, but I'll certainly try this.

It’s amusing when you recall that Alan Cumming and Ari Shapiro have just been out on tour together with their “Considered Cabaret” show that they’re now hosting similar shows.

I honestly thought it would never happen, but...

New host is Ari Shapiro from NPR. AFAIK, it is three episodes a week for three weeks.

I’m almost certain the Times owned a station in Huntsville Alabama at one time.  Maybe that’s the one that did it.
Do remember the same distributor not only had let’s make a deal but I believe they also offered Hollywood squares the previous year.
In the south many distributors were personal friends with management.  Even if they had done deals as reps for other companies in the past.  Sort of a code of the west, or at least the south.
Perhaps that’s what happened here.

Game Show Channels & Networks / Re: Buzzr Q2 2024
« Last post by Ian Wallis on May 18, 2024, 03:23:41 PM »
Recently, Buzzr had been quietly airing "new" episodes of Press Your Luck on the weekends, which I had been enjoying. I didn't have GSN during its run there, so I haven't seen these later episodes since the USA Network days. I like seeing them intact and crystal clear, and I have no real interest in scouring YouTube for the VHS transfers and GSN'ed videos that have been uploaded.

I'm a little bummed that the show is taking a break, but this isn't the first time Buzzr has taken Press Your Luck off the schedule entirely, and I hope it'll be back soon enough.

I agree with that.  Brandon's right that there's enough of the show out there, but the final couple of months of the show have either never been repeated, or were shown just once on USA back in the early '90s.  It would be good to finally see them to close out the original series.

And with that, TIL that the NYT owned TV stations, all in the South for some reason

TIL that Scranton, Des Moines, and Quad Cities IA/IL are in the South.
